Skywatch Friday-blue skies, sort of

The wet weather this week has given us some unusual skies.

Today is Skywatch Friday. For other skies from around the world click here.

I will email the Photo Walkers today with the winning photo from Terrell. All of the entries are worthy of being picked, but I can only pick one. If your picture was not picked, I am sorry.

Work

Have you ever started something, got sidetracked, got sidetracked again, then forget what you were doing to start with? That's they way I was last night.

I finally hooked my scanner back up. I promised a friend that I would scan some pictures from the 80s and send them to him. Once I got it hooked up, I had to find where I put the pictures.

While looking for the pictures I found some old football and hockey trading cards from the 70s. I started looking through the cards, remembering some and not finding all of them. Before I knew it I was digging for more cards. I know I have a Walter Payton rookie card somewhere. I did find a couple of Dick Butkus and a Randy White rookie card. I also have some old hockey cards from the 78-79 season.

While looking for more cards I saw some old VHS tapes that were not labeled. I wondered what could be on them. I pulled them out, there were 3 of them. Tape number 1 was all Big Brother 2 from the summer of 2001. Tape number 2 all Big Brother 5. Tape number 3 was all static, chances are good it was Big Brother.

I never did find the pictures I was looking for.

Oh, my picture for today is my messy cubicle at work. I took the photo on Monday, I don't remember why.

More rain coming morning, this line of storms looks bad. Terrell is on the right and the storms are moving from the left. The radar is from DallasNews.com. They just activated the weather sirens and the rain is starting. No time for visiting friends sites this morning.

Big Brother is on tonight. I think I just remembered where there are some more trading cards.........

Abandoned building

This is the old north campus of Medical Center at Terrell. The building is for sale and has been empty for a while. Is that a light on in the window? Answer at the bottom of the post.

August 1st is Monthly Theme Day in the City Daily Photo world. The theme is NIGHT, after sports, my favorite type of shot. I have been out after dark scouting spots for a good shot for the 1st. I liked this one, but its not Theme day material

I am close to picking a winner for the Terrell Photo Walk.

So Brett Farv-ra is going to stay retired. Big Deal.

When I was growing up I listened to all types of music. Hall and Oates was a favorite of mine. I saw them in concert with ELO and I am not ashamed to admit they were great. Live From Daryl's House is Daryl Halls online music show, this month he brought Plain White T's to his farm. Give the Plain White T's a listen then check out the past shows.

I keep getting emails for free hotel rooms in Las Vegas........

More heavy rain today? Looks like it.

We draw for draft positions in my fantasy football league today.

That's not a light in the window it is the tail light of a car reflecting in the window.

Obstacles and objectives

When mowing some objects are easier to see than others.

The Kaufman Herald has a story up about the unveiling of the 4/5 th replica of the Vietnam Memorial Wall that will take place on November 7th in Kaufman, Texas. I will make sure I am there. Last year, I posted photos on August 31 and September 8 of the delivery of the wall to Kaufman County on August 30th.

We got a little rain yesterday and had a nice rain shower this morning.

I am still trying to decide which photo to select to send on to the Worldwide Photo Walk contest.

I admit I am a Big Brother addict, I have watched every season and tried out 4 times. As a group, the house guests in BB11 are shaping up to be the meanest and nastiest of any year. I would fit right in that house.

I have also tried out 2 times for Survivor and once for Amazing Race. CBS TV11 is hosting an Amazing Race audition this Saturday in Lewisville, but I dont think I will be able to make it..........oh well, some day.......

With Fantasy Football season right around the corner, for my money, Footballguys.com is the best fantasy site around. The best football insider is Matt Mosley from ESPN.

Today's post screams geek, dork, nerd and that's not just because Mosley's name is mentioned.

About to expire

Do you ever look in your fridge and see something that's about to expire? You think, you're not really hungry, but hate to throw anything away.

That was my problem last night. I ended up baking at 10:00PM.

You can click the picture to enlarge.....if you want more sugar.

They sure were good.

Photos submitted from the Terrell Photo Walk for the city contest are here, scroll to the bottom of the page and click on the pictures for a larger view. The winner for Terrell will be picked this week and it will go on to the worldwide contest. Let me know which picture you like best.

I have an idea for a local photo walk event for the fall. I will let you in on it as details get ironed out.

Yesterday was the Brickyard 400 at Indy. Maybe it's just me, but NASCAR is getting boring. I took an unplanned nap during yesterdays race.

The Terrell Tribune put out their annual Progress edition Sunday. If you can still get a copy, pick it up. I noticed a coupon in there for a donut shop that's worth more than cost of the paper. I am going to redeem mine as soon as the cinnamon rolls are gone.

A search button has been added to the right. Type in a word to find it here. H/T to Jacob, I noticed it on his site.

Photo deadline-Terrell Photo Walk

11:00PM local time is the deadline for uploading photos to the Worldwide Photo Walk. You can upload two photos, make sure they are your best. These are the shots that I will choose from to represent Terrell in the worldwide contest.

First Christian Church, Terrell, Texas

The Rangers have games won 5 in a row. The leader of their division has won 7 in a row. Maybe that's what has Cliff down.

I am not a real Ranger fan. My baseball loyalties lie in St. Louis with the Cardinals, who seem to be making all the right moves. I hope they pay off.

Have a good Saturday.

I will finish up my photos from the photo walk with Skywatch tomorrow.

The story that ran in Tuesdays print Tribune was posted online yesterday afternoon. You can read the entire story here.

Since I was the walk leader, I have to pick one photo from all of the photographers selections to submit to the worldwide contest. I have quite a few favorites, so it's going to be a hard decision. Here is a link to last years winner and the 10 finalists.

Dr. L.E. Griffth home-Terrell Photowalk

For me one of the highlights of the Photowalk was to be able to walk the grounds of the Dr. L. E. Griffith home on 1st Street. Davis Griffith-Cox welcomed the photographers onto the grounds and answered any questions we had about his family or the home that was built in the mid 1800's.

Click the image for a larger picture.

Other photos from the grounds can be found at the Terrell Flickr Photowalk page. The Flickr page is a place for all of the Terrell photowalkers to upload their best shots from all over Terrell. We have a great collection so far from 14 walkers, check it out.

Faces in the crowd-Terrell Photo Walk 2009

We had 28 shooters turn out for the photo walk in Terrell yesterday. It was fun, and turned out a lot better than I had imagined. We walked down Moore Ave. and then went over to the Griffith homeplace. I met some great photographers and got a lot of tips. I will share my favorite photos over the next few days. I took more of the other shooters than of Terrell.

The Terrell Photo Walk was one of 900 Scott Kelby's second annual worldwide photo walks that took place yesterday.

Visit the Terrell Photo Walk Flickr page for some great shots of Terrell by some awesome photographers.

I would guess we had half people from Terrell and half visitors. We had some kids on the walk working on a Boy Scout badge, which was pretty neat.

These shots were taken on the corner of Moore Ave. and Catherine at the old 1st National Bank building.

I want to thank the City of Terrell Marketing Director Lynnette Nadeau, Susan Roberts, who hosted us Saturday morning and Davis Griffith-Cox, who opened up the grounds to the Griffith family homeplace. I look forward to the 2010 walk.

Skywatch Friday-Rain in the forecast?

We may get a break from the heat and a little rain, lets hope. This is the sunset last night as the clouds were rolling in.

If you will be in Terrell today, tomorrow or next Friday or Saturday stop by the old Bliss hair salon at the corner of 429 & 80, next to Pardners. They are holding a yard sale/fundraiser for the 949th Brigade Support Battalion who are currently serving in Iraq. They may have something you can not do without. All money collected will be used to purchase gift cards for the returning troops. You can also make a cash donation at Citizens Bank inside Brookshires. This is an excellent idea and I know the returning troops would appreciate the gift. They are also looking for donations to the yard sale and volunteers to assist. Pick up a copy of the Terrell Tribune for more information located in the around town section on the front page.

I posted pictures of the send off that was held in Terrell last July.

I love this site cause I'm a geek. HP takes in $58 million dollars on opening day.

I promise not to complain every day but.............

"Nothing is free" Paul Wageman NTTA Board Chairman today to Channel 11 when discussing the 32% rate increase in tolls on the NTTA system. Follow the link and play they embedded video for the quote.

His quote got me wondering if anyone has done a follow up to this story from almost 2 years ago? Some Wealthy & Powerful Drive On Tollway For Free.

In the story from two years ago, Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson was asked for a comment about getting a tolltag for free. She called the reporter back and said "I don't have to tell you my business." See my comment about Congress from yesterdays post. This may be a good example.

I drive the George Bush Turnpike everyday and will be paying these higher costs. I am curious if all drivers of the NTTA system are being asked to buck up and pay the higher rate.....or any rate at all.

Have a great Friday!

Survival of the fittest...or something like that

Wonder what happened to this guy?

OH

I guess this beats a bird or mouse on the porch. Cat sure is playful.

I wonder how may people who have commented here have ever been to a Terrell City Council meeting? People love to complain (me too) but when you constantly complain about elected officials then don't run yourself when the time comes, its time to shut up. We just had an election in Terrell. My City Council person ran unopposed. Sounds to me like we said he was doing a good job, keep it up. It could be like in Congress, everyone wants to replace Congress, just not their representative everyone else.

I wonder if Christina will be making plans to go to this?

My pictures are in no way related to my comment about the City Council :-)

Saturdays Photo Walk should be fun. It looks like the weather may give us a break and I have confirmation that we will be able to walk the grounds of the Griffith Homeplace. The walk will be in two parts, the homeplace and the downtown area. If you have signed up I should be sending out an email tonight with more details. If you haven't signed up yet, click on the banner to the right.

I know we are in Texas, but I am tired of the heat, its 84 degrees already.

I tried to stay up last night to watch Paul McCartney (he is a lefty) on Letterman. I fell asleep before he performed. I just watched his concert on top of the marquee on Facebook, it is AWESOME.

I saw a commercial for Amazing Race tryouts on August 1st in Lewisville. That sounds like a plan.

There seemed to be a lot more traffic in town yesterday. Must have been everyone going out to Ham's Orchard.

I spent time in the Air Force, so when I read this my first thought was, good luck with that.

The break for the Major League Baseball All Star game is here. My Cardinals are in first place. The Rangers, not so much.

Sunday shorts

I found this old railroad crossing sign in Terrell. This reminds me of the kind I used to see in rural areas. Now all of the signs have bells, whistles and gates.

A few Sunday shorts:

The MLB All-Star game is in St. Louis this week. I grew up just on the Illinois side of the Mississippi river. My Mother used to drive me to the old Busch stadium drop me off before Cardinal games then pick me up after the game. I was probably 14 or 15 years old. I couldn't imagine anyone dropping their kids off now days. I remember camping out to get bleacher tickets for the game that Lou Brock collected his 3000th hit.

Sunday's Terrell Tribune is full of stories of local interest, including a potential challenger to Betty Brown's District 4 State House seat.

Cliff Gibson begins a 7 part series running every Sunday and Wednesday featuring the new football coaching staff at Terrell High School. Be sure to stop by your favorite corner store to pick up your copy of the Tribune.

Terrell Photo Walk is the 18th. Looks like we are going to have a nice turnout. There is still time to sign up, click on the banner to the right for details.

The tournament ended last night. To find out how Terrell finished check out today's Terrell Tribune or Cliffs Full Count V2.0

Do we have a problem here?

Maybe not paying attention or just can't read. We already know they can not spell, unless Whirlpool also makes refriderators. Two signs on this pole, and I saw two other poles with the same sign posted. How much of a fine would that be?

Below is from a story in the Tribune from this week. Click for the entire story.
