Terrell, Texas Monday Morning Mashup

Todays picture is from a few days ago when the cold front was moving in. Its a reflection of Moore Ave. in the window of American National Bank. Processed just a wee bit.

It's Monday, back to work for most people.  I have been fighting the flu/cold since Thanksgiving, hopefully I am getting over it.

The Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving day was fun.  I always check the results, looking for other runners from Terrell.  Usually its just Brian and me.  I was happy to see 9 runners in the 5k and 7 taking up the 8 mile run.  Complete results can be found here

Why is soccer called a spring sport when practice starts today for the Tigers?  Since all schools do not field soccer teams, the alignment is different than other sports.  Terrell boys and girls teams will be in 23-4A along with Kaufman, Crandall, Forney, North Forney, Mesquite Poteet, West Mesquite.

Both boys and girls basketball teams are in action Tuesday night.  The girls travel to Waxahachie, while the boys host Waxahachie.  Tipoff for the boys varsity is 8:00 PM at the complex.

I added an album on the Facebook page and on ihigh.com from the girls game against Poteet.

Thursday night is opening night of "A Christmas Carol" by the Vagabond Players.  The play continues on Friday and Saturday at 7:30 and Sunday at 2:00.  Contact Books and Crannies for more information and tickets.  I am going to the Thursday night performance.

Tigers lose District opener to Mesquite Poteet

The Lady Tigers opened up District 15-4A with a loss to the Pirates from Mesquite Poteet 58-45.  A slow second quarter doomed the Tigers when they were outscored 18-8.   They played Poteet even in the second half and their inside game showed promise.  Tonisha Dean led the Tigers with 16 points, the majority coming from inside or from the free throw line. The Pirates, who made it 3 games deep into the playoffs last year, were led by Shanovia Gamblins 31 points .   The Tigers recored is 0-1 in District and 3-3 overall.  The Lady Tigers will play two games on the road before returning home to play North Garland on Dec. 7th.

Big Barn

This is the barn behind the Saint Cox Dog Resort.  Its not old, but has the classic barn look.

I took more pictures at the dog resort but didn't realize I had the camera on the wrong setting.

Hop over to Bluff Area Daily for more barns.

Forney Light Show begins Thanksgiving night. Be sure to pay them a visit, they put on a neat show.

Terrell, Texas Monday Morning Mashup

Saturday Saint Cox Dog Resort hosted an open house. The resort has only been open a few days but its looking nice. In addition to boarding dogs, they offer dog training, and goodies for the dogs and dog owners. If you live in the Terrell or Wills Point area and are looking for a place to board your dogs during the holidays give them a call.

The American Music Awards were last night.  Nobody really cares who wins awards. Justin Bieber artist of the year....really?  People tune in to see the performances.  I like most any type of music, but my favorite performance last night was Pink bringing out the old school dance moves, she stole the show.  Some of my other favorites were Black Eyed Peas, Ne-Yo, Enrique Iglesias w/Pitbull and Usher.

Does modern rock suck so bad, they have to wheel out Bon Jovi and Santana to perform?  They must have a contract that reads they are required to be a guest on every award show.  Please no more!

Give a listen to Brielle Pogues new song.  Shes a local artist who has a great new song out called 'My Ish Is Hot'.  Its on my running playlist.

The Lady Tigers basketball team will have their hands full Tuesday night at the Complex when they host Mesquite Poteet.  The Pirates are off to a 6-2 start.  The Tigers are off to a 3-2 start.  Varsity tipoff is 7:30PM.

I have an album from Friday nights boys basketball game posted on the Terrell Daily Photo Facebook page.  Check out the album and hit the 'like' button.

Have you checked out the ihigh link to the right?  Its a website for High School activities.  All schools should be listed, is yours?

I am looking forward to seeing "A Christmas Carol" performed by the Vagabond Players.

Thanksgiving morning Brian and I will be running in the Capital One Bank Dallas YMCA Turkey Trot.  We are running the 5K, they also have an 8 mile race.  Last year the race had almost 2500 hundred time 5K runners and almost 4500 times 8 mile runners.

Todays temperature is suppose to hit 80 degrees, but race time on Thursday it will be down in the 30s.

Saturday is Small Business Saturday, take time to visit one of the many small businesses that call Terrell home.

Tigers make easy work of Lions

Terrell traveled to Kaufman Friday night for a non-district game against the Kaufman Lions. The Tigers held a 20 point lead a half time 34-14. The Tigers out scored the Lions in the second half 46-15 by using a full court press and hitting a flurry of three pointers, the final score 80-29.
Tavian Henderson led the Tigers in scoring with 19 points.

The varsity next plays on Nov 30, when they host Waxahachie at the Complex in their first District 15-4A game.

Shelby 427

One of the "pace" cars for the Speedway 5K/10K.

Both Tigers varsity basketball teams won last night. The Lady Tigers are now 2-0 after defeating Paris 50-45 in Paris, TX. The Ladies next play in the Highland Park tournament starting Thursday.

The boys won their opening game of the year on the road beating Rockwall 59-56. They travel to Kaufman to take on the Lions Friday night.

Plans are being made for the annual Kiwanis Toy Drive (K-Toys) flag football game. This year it will be the Terrell Police and Fire Departments teaming up to take on the City of Terrell Non-Civil Service employees.  The tentative date is December 4th.  Admission is an unwrapped toy (or 2).

Thanksgiving is just over a week away and Christmas shopping will be getting into full swing.  Don't forget to shop Terrell's local independently owned businesses.

Old Barns

This old barn will probably not last another half dozen years. A housing development is getting close.

I found another 5K that sounds interesting and its nearby. Its the Santa Stroll in Kaufman, TX on December 4th.

Visit Tricias site for more old barns and beautiful fall Missouri colors.

Terrell, Texas Monday Morning Mashup

This past Saturday I ran in the Speedway 5k that was held in and around Texas Motor Speedway.  The speedway is over an hour away from Terrell, but it was worth the trip.  The race started in the infield close to the garages and pits.  The awards were presented in one of the garages.  While we were running, there were NASCAR cars traveling round the track.   The speeding cars must have helped me because I finished the 5k in 33:53, beating my best time by over a half minute.  Next race scheduled is the C.L.A.W. Run for Rescue 5K on the First Monday Grounds in Canton, TX.  I have been there to shop and eat, never to try to run around the place.

The Lady Tigers won their opening game Friday night. An album as been posted to the Terrell DP Facebook page. The play tomorrow night in Paris, TX.

The Runnin Tigers open their season tomorrow night in Rockwall against the Yellow Jackets. The boys basketball schedule has been uploaded to the ihigh website under documents. Follow the link on the right.

Christmas in a Small Town Home Tour

Another after dark picture from Ben Gill Park.

The Social Science Club of Terrell will host their annual Christmas Home Tour on Saturday, Dec. 4, 2010.  I went on the tour last year and it was a fun afternoon.  Each home was decorated by their owners in holiday themes.   I cant wait to see the homes on the tour this year.  Clicking the image below for a larger version of their flyer.

Not so old barn

This is on the way to Poetry, TX.  Not quite an old barn.

It didn't take long yesterday for Wade Phillips to be shown the door. I noticed there are already Fire Jason Garrett sites and Facebook pages.

Visit Tricias site for other old barns (or not so old barns).

I somehow deleted some of my links on the right. I need to remember how to get them back.

Conan debuted on TBS last night. His opening skit and monologue were LOL funny.

Terrell, Texas Monday Morning Mashup

The football season has come to an end.  The Tigers were able to finish positive, winning their final game.

Friday Night Lights in Texas is more than just watching football.  Its also, band, cheerleaders, and Tigerettes. Great season by all of the students.   I added my final football album to the Terrell Daily Photo Facebook page...at least for this year.  If you like the page, hit the like button.

This page has only 1,193 members?

Saturday the 13th is The Speedway Run 5K at Texas Motor Speedway. As we race in the infield near the garage area, race cars will be racing around the track. Sounds like fun and I will make sure I have my camera with me after the race.

The 13th is also the Kaufman County Fire Chiefs Association Poker and Fun Run. Weekends seem to be so busy lately, there isnt time to do everything. Click below for more information on the fun run.

Big toys

Yesterday was the Speak up for Kids CASA 5K in Rockwall.  On hand was a Care Flight helicopter and a fire Truck from the Rockwall Fire Department.  Being a big kid, I was drawn to both.

Going out a winner

The Tigers closed out their 2010 football season with what I could call a near perfect game defeating Ennis 47-0.

Ben Gill at night

It has been a while since I took pictures at Ben Gill Park. Last night was chilly, but the sky was clear. I took the old Samsung out and got a few pictures.

Join us tomorrow morning in Rockwall for the Speak Up for Kids CASA 5K/Fun Run.  The 5K starts at 8:30am.

The football Tigers travel to Ennis tonight to take on the Lions in the last football game of the season.  With a win tonight the Tigers will finish the season 5-5.  Terrell was hoping to make a second trip to the playoffs in as many years, but redistricting hurt their chances.

If you can not go to tonights game listen live on KPYK.
Check the Terrell Daily Photo Facebook page for scoring updates and add the page to your list of likes.

Tiger and Lady Tiger Basketball season is right around the corner.

He was diving into a pool that wasn't very deep.

This Saturday afternoon we are going to try and hit the Poetry Music Festival ten and a half. It will be shorter version of the original that was cut short last month due to bad weather. Its held in a donkey pasture in Poetry, TX.

Temperature for the race on Saturday morning will be in the 40s. BURRRRR.

A soaking

The rain started yesterday morning and it's still raining at 6:30AM.  Terrell has received just over 2 1/4 inches.  One party also took a soaking yesterday in the elections.  Have you hit the like button on the Terrell Daily Photo Facebook page?  You can find more photos there.

Heck of a season

The SF Giants won the World Series last night in Arlington, TX.  The Rangers have no reason to hang their heads.  They made everyone proud.  I hope last night wasn't the last time we see Cliff Lee in a Ranger uniform.  I think what made their run different from what we have seen from the Cowboys, Stars and Mavericks, is it wasn't expected.

I found my barn on the ride back from Canton.  Visit Bluff Area Daily for other barns from around the world.

Terrell, Texas Monday Morning Mashup

Visited First Monday in Canton on Saturday.  It was very crowded.  I took my camera, but put it away when the crowds started bumping into me.

Popular Halloween costumes were Texas Rangers baseball players and people wearing Tony Romo jerseys complete with arm in a sling.

The Tigers football season comes to an end this Friday in Ennis.  The varsity squad will be looking to finish the season with a .500 record.

The Texas Longhorns lost to Baylor?  They have better chance playing at the Cotton Bowl more than in Cotton Bowl.

Yesterday was the Marine Corps Marathon.  I know three people who ran the race.

Next Saturday is the Speak up for Kids CASA 5K in Rockwall.   Lonestar CASA is Court Appointed Special Advocates for Children in Rockwall and Kaufman Counties. Read more about their history and mission here.  I ran 39.7 miles last month.

Thank goodness, tomorrow is election day and we can quit hearing about, and seeing the negative ads on television. On Wednesday we can listen to who did want wrong, who won that should have lost, recounts, disputes, and how this was the most important election in years.  Six months from now, we will be hearing about how the new members of Congress are no different than the ones they replaced.
