Alleyway
I can not believe the year is half over. I always say I wish it was Friday or the weekend. Truth is though, I don't want to skip any days. I am getting to old to want to wish days away.
...... but I will settle for a 2 day work week and 5 day weekends.
Fireworks Saturday night in Terrell.

Theme day-Iran Protests
Updated-Amir has been released and is home.
Today is a special Theme Day to support our fellow blogger and all Iranians who are being denied having their vote counted.
The photo above was taken during a silent march. Hundreds of thousands of protesters in Tehran marched without saying a word. They simply held their fingers in the air symbolizing V for victory.
I have been reading the entries by other CDP bloggers for this Theme Day, click here to view thumbnails for all participants click through the photo to each site to read their thoughts.

I started my site just over two years ago, with the goal to simply put pictures of Terrell, Texas on the web and to show the good side of Terrell. Monday through Friday I usually have something posted by 6:30AM. Weekends I am flexible, depending on whats going on in town.
I am a sports nut, many of you may have seen me at Terrell sporting events with my point and shoot. I didn't attend Terrell High School, but I love to root for the home team. I also love to take pictures at night.
I take my camera with me everywhere I go. I always look at things wondering if it would make a good picture. I also have videos posted on You Tube of happenings around Terrell. Be sure to check them out. Be sure to check out the other local bloggers listed to the right.
If you have any ideas let me know? Please don't reuse any of these pictures without my permission.

I think I like the night picture better.
On June 6th I included in my post an item about unclaimed property being held by the State of Texas. I mentioned that the city of Terrell had quite a few listings. Tuesday night, the local NBC affiliate channel 5 ran a story on their news about unclaimed property in Texas with emphasis being on property and cash unclaimed by businesses and government offices. I wonder if they visit my blog?

The shuttle launch has been scrubbed. No tweets from space for now.
Dallas area drivers are some of the worst in the country? I can't argue with that.
When I hear someone complaining about having to do their job over and over, a job they need to pay their bills, I wonder what the person that got laid off a few weeks ago is doing. We all have deadlines, we all have tasks that we dread. We all want to be paid more and do less. There are a lot of people who could do our jobs. Go find something else to do. We can always be replaced.

Flag Day
I spent most of my day yesterday following developments in Iran on Twitter. I have been following Change for Iran, a university student in Tehran and IranElection. I wonder what information would be getting out of Iran if Twitter wasn't available? The normal news outlets seem to have have been slow to pick up the coverage.
Tehran Live, a City Daily Photo site, has been posting videos and pictures from protests. His images are powerful and I have seen them all over the internet. The reach a CDP blogger can have is amazing. He has a note on his site that it has been banned in Iran. If for some reason you can not get to his site, try Portland Daily Photos, he is an Iranian living in Portland, Or. He is reposting Tehran Live on his site.
Here are a few more pictures from the fun this weekend at Ben Gill Park.

The Tractor and Engine Show continues Sunday at Ben Gill Park in Terrell.
Amazing images and words from Iran Live and Mashhad Daily. They are two City Daily Photo blogs from inside Iran. Please take time to visit both sites. My heart goes out to the people of Iran who are fighting for their freedom and fair elections. I hope their voice will be heard and not silenced.

Terrell has a new Subway Sandwich shop. It opened yesterday in one of the historic buildings on Moore Ave. We made a stop in there last night for dinner. The store looks very nice, and I will leave it at that.
We have had thunderstorms since last night. Check out Don's lightning shots at East Texas Photo.

White Picket Fence and my HSO
The NBA sucks, the game last night may have been close, but it wasn't exciting, matter of fact, I found the game boring. The NBA will make sure Kobe gets his ring. Whats with the NBA games not starting till 9pm in Orlando? The game didn't get over until almost midnight Orlando time. At 10:30 I turned off the light, went to bed and left the TV on. I could at least listen to the game as I tried to fall asleep.
For excitement, it was game 6 of the National Hockey League Finals. Pittsburgh won 2-1 in a fast paced, end to end game that forces a game 7 to be played Friday night in Detroit.
In related sports news... :-) Todd Glaesmann, who played for Midway against Terrell in the Bi-District baseball playoffs was drafted yesterday in the 3rd round by the Tampa Bay Rays. He was picked 108th overall. Todd has committed to playing baseball at Texas A&M. The draft resumes at 11am local time. I will keep an eye out for any other local talent that gets drafted that may have played in Terrell The Below is Todd scoring in the playoff game played in Terrell.

Forney money grab? - Updated
Today's Kaufman County Commissioners meeting should be interesting. Sundays print edition of the Terrell Tribune has the story about what seems to me to be a money grab by Forney our neighbor to the west. If you are in the Terrell area, go pick up a Tribune and give it a read. Micheal has posted his feeling on the issue at Obstructed View. At issue is funding for two bridges. One in Forney that will cross highway 80 and provide the opportunity for FUTURE retail development and growth. The other bridge is the highway 34 overpass of highway 80, that has been part of a master plan for years. There is not enough money to complete both projects. The current intersection in Terrell is an accident waiting to happen. Below are pictures of the current intersection of 34 & 80 in Terrell. I would post pictures of the proposed bridge site in Forney, but everyone knows what corn fields look like. I am sure somehow both projects will get built, but I will be keeping an eye on the Tribune to see how this plays out.
The photo below is the 34/80 intersection looking west on 80.
This is 34/80 looking east on 80.
This is 34 looking south. At highway 80 you have to turn, you can not go straight.
The proposed bridge will cross over 80 and take away this dangerous intersection.

I went and saw this Saturday night, wish I would have seen this.
The new Dallas Cowboys stadium opened in Arlington, Texas Saturday with a George Strait concert. The opening was met with positive reviews. One of the local TV stations interviewed a couple who looked and sounded like they had been to a few Grateful Dead concerts. They said after paying $40 to park (that's to park in a stadium lot) that concert was cool, the munchies were expensive and the stadium was awesome dude.Sunday, June 7, 2009

No Tres Pass
The State of Texas has an online database to help people to search for unclaimed property. A few years ago, I noticed my name on it. I was overcharged by a dental clinic and the money was never paid back to me. I got a check in the mail for $180. It had been unclaimed because I didn't know about it. Have you ever lived or done business in Texas? Check to see if your name is listed. I noticed the city of Terrell has quite a few unclaimed items on the list. I guess there is a reason why they are on the list.

My poison ivy has gone from my right calf, to my left thigh to my right wrist. I got it by chasing a stray dog out of my fenced back yard. It was out there on Saturday morning. Not sure what type it was, I think it was a young boxer. He was skittish and wouldn't come close to me, so I had to step into some bushes to put a leash on it. The bushes apparently contained poison ivy. Yea me. A few hours later I saw him in someone elses back yard, I guess he made it home.

Buford Drugs
The poison ivy I got is driving me up a wall, come on calamine lotion, WORK.
The 81st session of the Texas Legislature just ended. One of the proposals that didn't even make it for a vote was a statewide smoking ban. The measure would ban smoking in almost all indoor public places, including bars and restaurants. Many Texas towns have some version of a smoking ban in place, but I don't think Terrell has one. I really don't care if they ban smoking in bars or restaurants. I smoked or over 20 years but I quit 4 years ago. I still usually sit in the smoking section because that's where they have the TVs and there is always sports on. It doesn't bother me, I know before I go in that I have a choice.
However, there has to be some law about smoking in convenience stores.......right? Not just in Terrell, but everywhere. I always find myself standing in line behind someone who has a cigarette in their mouth, puffing away, blowing smoke. They usually flip their ashes on the store floor, or throw the butt on the ground outside near gas pumps. Cigarette smoke is not only not healthy, its disgusting. I asked one store owner why they allow people to smoke inside the store. I was told if they ask customers to put it out, they would spend their money someplace else. Do me a favor, if you smoke, put it out in an ashtray before going into the store. I would hate to turn into one of those UGLY ex-smokers.

Terrell Daily Photo is 2 years old
The last year has been fun trying to find a picture to post every day, it has also been a learning experience. Before I look forward to the next year, let me look back over the last year.
One of the things I wanted to do this past year was take more sports photos. I think I did a pretty good job of that.
I went to a couple of Tiger football games, which was a first time I went to a high school football game since I was high school. Not sure how many I will go to this year. They don't make it easy to take pictures there.
I followed and photographed the Tiger baseball teams historic season. I am already looking forward to next year.
I also went to as many basketball and soccer games as I could.
I have been to a few City Council meetings and I am finding out how City government works.
I got used to carrying my camera everyplace I go.
I also found out that you have to get it in writing...no matter what it is. There are a lot of people how want something for nothing, that will take your work and pass it off as their own. Promise you one thing and deliver nothing. Jealous people who would like to see you fail, and of course people you cant please no matter what you do. I guess I had to find to find out the hard way.
Below are my New Years resolutions, I am getting there.
Resolution 1. Get more involved in my community.--I am getting there. I am working on the Terrell Photo Walk that will be on July 18 (sign up by clicking on the Terrell banner on the right.) I will continue to pop in on the City Council meetings.
Resolution 2. Get to the gym more.-- I have been pretty good about going to the gym. I haven't really lost any weight, but I can tell its moved around some.
Resolution 3.Paint the outside of the house (carryover from 2008).-- OK get back to me at the end of the year.
Looking ahead to year 3
I want the Photo Walk to be successful and fun.
I hope the 2010 Terrell Tigers sports teams have banner years.
I want the Mustang Warriors all return home soon and safe.
I look forward to reading the Terrell Tribune every day and keeping in touch with what's going on in town.
I will watch Big Brother 11, yell at my computer and TV knowing I could do better than anyone in the house. CBS, Channel 11 could have at least had a cast call in Dallas or Terrell. They had a great turnout in Terrell for the Survivor casting call.
Finally, I look forward to continue to posting pictures every day..... sometimes two a day and more commentary.
Oh..poison ivy sucks, and I think I have more links than Michael, that's hard to do. Be sure to take a peek at all of the links to the right, we have some good local blogs worth reading.
