Trumpet vine

We have a huge trumpet vine along our side fence in the back yard. The flowers are really starting to bloom, there must be a hundred of these clusters. I got this one while trying to avoid all of the bees. I also found they spread very quickly.

Mums is that you?

OK, maybe not mums, but Happy 60th Birthday Mom.

This Saturday, May 17th, the Windmill Farms Community Watch is sponsoring a Family Safety Fair from 2-4PM. This event, which all of Forney, Terrell and the surrounding areas are invited to attend, will feature booths, information, games and characters from over 25 different organizations, including the Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office, the North Texas Poison Center, the Kaufman County Master Gardener, the YMCA and the Department of Public Safety (see below for complete list).

Kids will have an opportunity to meet McGruff the crime dog, Smokey Bear, Vince & Larry (the crash test dummies), Sparky the fire dog and the Chick Fil A cow! In addition, the Sheriff’s Office plans to bring several police cars as well as K-9 units, the Forney Volunteer Fire Department will be bringing a fire truck and the local ambulance service will have an ambulance – all for the kids to tour.

In addition to information and brochures about various safety related topics, free child identification kits, sponsored by Capital One, will be available. There will be a bounce house for the kids and the first 250 children to attend will be able to participate in the Safety Scavenger Hunt to win prizes sponsored by T-Mobile. Additionally, other prizes, including free passes to the Forney Starplex movie theater will be given away to adults who register at the event.

The Family Safety Fair will be held at the Spyglass park area in Windmill Farms, near the intersection of Iron Gate Blvd & Reeder in Windmill Farms. From Highway 80, exit Windmill Farms Blvd, which is just east of Forney; follow Windmill Farms Blvd into the community to Reeder at which point you will make a left turn. After passing Forney Middle School at Windmill Farms Blvd & Reeder, the Spyglass park area will be on your left before you reach Iron Gate Blvd.

Singing Man BBQ will be on hand selling barbecue and providing live entertainment and the Windmill Farms Community Watch will have a concession stand with hot dogs, nachos and more – the proceeds from the concession stand will support Community Watch efforts in Windmill Farms.

Visit the Windmill Farms Community Watch website at WFWatch.com for more details.

Water logged

I thought it would be neat to get a picture of my lily flower with rain drops on it. I didnt know flowers got water logged. It looks like it just got out of the bath tub.

Hey bud

I normally don't post flower photos, because I cant catch them just right, and most of my flowers look like they came from the discount bin. I guess I don't have a green thumb. I did find a nice rose that was just about to bloom that I thought looked nice. Of course its not from my yard.

Its going to be in the mid 70s today, so off to do something outside. Have a great Saturday!

Road Trip-Dallas Farmers Market again

I mentioned yesterday that at the Dallas, Texas Farmers Market you could get a lot more than just produce. There are thousands of flowers, ferns and trees that can be bought to brighten up your yard or garden. We are going to go back and get a couple hanging ferns for our front porch. The ferns are huge.

We got a Texas Star flower at the farmers market probably 5 years ago. Its still going strong and is coming up again this year. Here is a picture of one of the flowers from last summer. It probably is 8 inches across.

Terrell Texas Bluebonnets

Texas is blessed to have the bluebonnet has its state flower. Its not quite bluebonnet season, but there are patches popping up all over. They grow wild along highways all over the state. This is in Terrell next to Highway 34.

The Terrell Tribune has a bluebonnet gallery that shows you why the bluebonnet is loved so much. Be sure to check out the rest of the Tribunes website while there, they have revamped it and it is very user friendly.

Dont forget the Annual Terrell Heritage Jubilee is 19th and 20th. The carnival starts Wednesday.

April showers

The Terrell Tigers High School baseball team had a game scheduled last night at home. That can only mean one thing.

Rain, and more rain for today. At least my rose has buds on it.
I may have to do a rain series.

Has spring sprung?

With football season over, I have nothing to do. So I worked in my front yard for a while. The temperature was in the mid 70s and clear, it was a very nice day. I cleaned out my flower bed, well not really a flower bed, more like a fern and elephant ear bed, since I kill all flowers or plant the darn bulbs upside down. Anyway, as I was cleaning up the leaves and the pecan shells I noticed I have a few daffodils sprouting up. Does that mean winter is over?
It is suppose to be in the 30s again by Friday.

Archway

Here is a beautiful archway in Terrell. Not sure anyone would be able to walk under it though.
