Road Trip-Alcohol Abuse

Back in the day, I would probably joke around and say this is a great example of alcohol abuse. How could anyone leave unattended an almost full miniature bottle of Bacardi rum? Shameful. But, times change, and I haven't had a drink since 1995 because of ulcers, I don't miss it, I also haven't smoked in just over 3 years. Today I would call it litter or trash that gives me a picture to post on the last day of April. Behind the bottle is the Woodall Rogers Freeway and uptown Dallas, Texas.

Mo posted a similar photo last Saturday on Another Las Vegas.

Road Trip-Bank of America building, Dallas, Texas

The Bank of America building in downtown Dallas is the tallest building in Dallas. This view is looking south from the West End parking garage. At night the building it lit up in green neon.

See that little dot on the right of the building, they are window washers. There are some jobs I just was not cut out to do. Baseball player and window washer are two of them.

Road Trip-Dallas Farmers Market again

I mentioned yesterday that at the Dallas, Texas Farmers Market you could get a lot more than just produce. There are thousands of flowers, ferns and trees that can be bought to brighten up your yard or garden. We are going to go back and get a couple hanging ferns for our front porch. The ferns are huge.

We got a Texas Star flower at the farmers market probably 5 years ago. Its still going strong and is coming up again this year. Here is a picture of one of the flowers from last summer. It probably is 8 inches across.

Road Trip-Dallas Farmers Market

We visited the Dallas Farmers Market yesterday morning. Its always fun to visit the farmers market just outside downtown Dallas, Texas. The colors are wonderful to look at and we normally end up buying something. Yesterday we left empty handed, but we will be back soon. The market has fresh fruits, vegetables, spices, flowers, plants, trees, ceramic yard art, furniture, a little bit of everything.

A carnival favorite

I loved caramel apples growing up. Chomping into the apple covered in caramel and peanuts. Now that was good food. I don't think I have had a caramel or candy apple in over.....that many....years. Now days, I think I would be afraid of chomping down and end up needing dental work. Maybe I could get one and lick the caramel off?

Last Tiger baseball photos of the season......

honest...... I am sure everyone is tired of my baseball shots by now.

I think the last one is one of my favorites. It catches a runner running to first and another runner coming home.
By the time next baseball and softball season starts I hope to be a much better photographer.

Sorry, had to add one more.

Thursday, April 24, 2008

Safe or out?

Was this runner safe or out at first base?

Visit More Terrell Photos for the answer. Terrell lost the game 3-2 and dropped the game Tuesday night to finish the season. They ended up losing more than they won, but they are a young team and will be better next year.

Durham Bulls? Nope Terrell Tigers

Is that the name of the baseball team in the movie Bull Durham?

I am taking a break from the carnival and Jubilee photos. Today is the dugout of the Terrell Tigers baseball team. They played their final home game Monday night against West Mesquite. I posted a few You Tube clips on More Terrell Texas.

I have said it before, if I could just photograph sporting events, I would. I have been a sports nut since I can remember.

Loading up riders with almost a full moon

Another picture of the Ferris wheel. Taken during the Terrell Heritage Jubilee. I added a picture on More Terrell Texas, same view with the wheel in motion. I also changed the header photo.

Carnival ride at night

This is one of the carnival rides, not sure of the name of it, its similar to the octopus/spider type ride from my childhood. There is another picture of it on my Family Night post.

Terrell Heritage Jubilee BBQ Cook Off

One of the great things about the Heritage Jubilee is there is something for everyone. Today's picture is from the BBQ chicken cook off. The Jubilee has an all day event for BBQ lovers, it's a BBQ Cook Off for chicken, ribs, brisket and showmanship. Cooks come from all around to enter their best BBQ. The awards were presented yesterday afternoon. I had already left by then. Over the next week I will post a few other pictures of the Jubilee and carnival.

Classic Car and Truck Show

One of the favorites of the Terrell Heritage Jubilee every year is the car and truck show. This year did not disappoint. It looked to me like there were more cars and trucks this year than the last few years. I would guess there were probably 40 to 50 cars and trucks on display. Here is just a sample. The Jubilee runs through tomorrow.

Family night

Last night was family night at the carnival and it packed. I coudn't miss the smell of cotton candy, just like when I was a kid.

This weekends schedule of events can be found here.

Terrell Tigers come through in the clutch

As I mentioned last night the Terrell Tigers baseball team defeated Richardson Pearce 4-2. Not sure of any of the players names. Here is the Terrell pitcher rounding first base after getting a base hit. I like the Terrell water tank in the background. More pictures from the game can be found at More Terrell Texas. Click on the picture to enlarge it.

The carnival starts tonight, I hope to get some great pictures.

That's a winner

Terrell finally got to play a home game as scheduled and they won. It was a great game. I will post another picture tomorrow then a few more on my second site.

My title is from the late Jack Buck, great St. Louis Cardinal radio play by play man.
Click on the photo to enlarge it.

Lake Ray Hubbard

Saturday was a wonderful day for flying a kite. This is at Lake Ray Hubbard in Rockwall, TX. North of Terrell.

The Terrell Tigers boys baseball team has a home game scheduled for tonight. No rain is in the forecast, maybe I will get a few pictures. If I do, I may double post today.

Terrell Texas Bluebonnets

Texas is blessed to have the bluebonnet has its state flower. Its not quite bluebonnet season, but there are patches popping up all over. They grow wild along highways all over the state. This is in Terrell next to Highway 34.

The Terrell Tribune has a bluebonnet gallery that shows you why the bluebonnet is loved so much. Be sure to check out the rest of the Tribunes website while there, they have revamped it and it is very user friendly.

Dont forget the Annual Terrell Heritage Jubilee is 19th and 20th. The carnival starts Wednesday.

Teaching fire safety-Terrell VFD

On hand yesterday at the Kaufman County YMCA Healthy Kids Day was the Terrell Volunteer Fire Department. They were there to teach kids the importance of fire safety. Mom, Dad and Grandma let me take a picture of these brothers checking out the fire fighting and rescue equipment.

Beautiful Saturday

Its shaping up to be a beautiful Saturday today. As I mentioned yesterday next weekend in the Annual Terrell Heritage Jubilee. If you are in the Dallas metroplex give the Jubilee a visit. Today's photos are from last years Jubilee.

I am off to do something outside. Have a great day!

Is the rain over...for now?

Thankfully yesterday Terrell only was hit with rain and some wind. Other parts of Dallas were not so lucky. Two tornado's touched down and a lot of straight line wind damage. Now the task is for everyone to start the cleanup. They tell us the weekend is going to be great. Lets hope. The picture is a tree at work. There were a couple snapped off because of the wind.

The Annual Terrell Heritage Jubilee begins next Wednesday. If you are in the Dallas Metroplex stop by. The link has all the information you will need including schedule of events. The Barbecue cook-off is my favorite. Of course I will be out taking pictures.

Here comes the rain again

Guess what it did last night and what it is doing right now, what its suppose to do tonight? Of course Terrell High School has a hoome baseball game scheduled for tonight.

Here is a screen capture of the radar from WFAA-TVs website from Dallas from this morning.

The local news is reporting a lot of damage in the Dallas area from this mornings storm. I hope all of the Dallas area Daily Photo bloggers are safe.

April showers

The Terrell Tigers High School baseball team had a game scheduled last night at home. That can only mean one thing.

Rain, and more rain for today. At least my rose has buds on it.
I may have to do a rain series.

Tuesday, April 8, 2008

Ladies please

Its bad enough that you make your husbands/boyfriends go shopping with you on a beautiful Saturday when they could be at a Nationwide Nascar race on he other side of the Metroplex. Must you make them hold the leash to your dog? I am sure this gentleman had no problem holding the leash to her white poodle with a black and pink shirt.

Dallas 2 Dallas for Wet Noses

Saturday on our way to Canton we stopped at a store to get a drink in Elmo, TX. Elmo is just a few miles from Terrell. In the parking lot was this van. On the side of the van it said Dallas to Dallas for wet noses, I had to get a picture and then look it up when we got home. It’s a bike ride from Dallas, TX to Dallas GA. to raise awareness for the need to spay, neuter, and adopt pets, and to raise funds for various shelters and humane societies along the route. You can track the progress of the ride on their website.

I didn’t see the bike rider, so I figured he was up the road somewhere. I put my camera on video and started recording. I found him a few hundred yards up the highway. The photo is fuzzy, it's a still from the video.

Canton Trade Days

To follow up on my picture from yesterday about Canton Trade Days. Canton is about 25miles east of Terrell and has a population of just over 5000 during most days of the month. The weekend of the first Monday of the month, Canton hosts the First Monday trade days, which brings in up to 7000 vendors and up to 300,000 shoppers. After walking around part of the grounds yesterday I would believe it.

I found over a half dozen websites devoted to 1st Monday. Here are two of them.
1st Monday
First Monday Canton

I never noticed how many scooters are rented. They were everywhere yesterday. It reminded me of the Seinfeld episode where a gang of elderly people on scooters chases George down the sidewalk.

This is one of the many covered pavilions for vendors and shoppers.

This place is called dog alley. Here you can find everything from small ducks and chicks to ponys and mules.

Maybe I will post a few more tomorrow.

Crisis in East Texas

The cost of gas has gotten so out of hand, old cowboys have been trading in their pickup trucks for scooters. This is a common sight as gas has pushed over $3 a gallon. So sad.

OK not really, this is First Monday weekend. The town of Canton, Texas turns into the worlds largest flea market. The weather was wonderful today and it was packed. I will share a few more pictures over the next few days.

I have no idea

I saw this one the way home from work yesterday. Any idea what it is? It looks like the front end is from a car, the cab is from an old truck, and the bed is from some other model truck. Its looks neat, but very strange.

Ready to go

The City of Terrell swimming pool looks like its ready to go. Its going to have to wait until June 8th though. It seem a little late, but that's when the pool opens for the 2008 season.

Meet Victor Morales and Joe Parnell

Last night on my way to the store, I noticed a white pickup and I had to swing back around and see it again. The pickup belongs to Victor Morales. Mr. Morales is the Democratic candidate for the Texas State House District 4. With Mr. Morales was Joe Parnell who is in the Democratic runoff for Kaufman County Commissioner Precinct 3. They were about to go door to door, but they both were nice enough to pause and let me snap their picture.

Mr. Morales is the first grassroots candidate I can remember. He ran for US Senate in 1996 by driving his white truck around the big state of Texas and he still drives that same truck today. He takes no money from PACs, only individuals. If you have questions for Mr. Morales he can be reached at,

Mr. Parnell is a former Kaufman County Court of Law Judge. You can read all about him and his qualifications at his website

For the runoff election, early voting started yesterday and runs through April 4th, regular voting is on April 8th.

I hope both men do well.

April theme day: Water

Today is theme day and the theme this month is water. This picture was taken after one of our heavy rains in March. I like the photo because it shows the water in motion.

If you get the chance take a look at the other City Daily Photo blogs taking part in theme day.
