Red River Ruminations
Yesterday I took a trip up to Choctaw Casino with Brian and his Grandmother. I was lucky and came home with more money than I went with. Choctaw has a new casino scheduled to open in February. I am looking forward to seeing it.
Winter weather is expected in the area today. Maybe more snow?
You have until January 1st to see the Forney Light Show.
I am going to review my 2009 resolutions on Thursday and take a look back at the year. Like everyone else I will be making resolutions and goals for 2010 on Friday.
Saw Avatar Saturday night. It's a great movie, that lived up to the hype. I want to go back and see it in 3-D. Like Christina, I also saw some previews of movies that I want to see. My list includes Robin Hood, Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief, and Clash of the Titans.
Don't forget to vote for your favorite photo over to the right.
This is the Red River as we were crossing back into Texas.

My fantasy football season ended Sunday. I came in second place. Not bad, a month ago I was sitting in 9th place and not even in the playoffs.
Regular readers know I do not really care for the Cowboys, but I do like the UT Longhorns. Can someone please ask Roy Williams to please stop giving the hook'em horns sign after he scores? Now that Nick Folk is gone, Roy Williams is the biggest waste of space on the Cowboys roster.
If the Cowboys end up meeting the Vikings somewhere down the road in the playoffs I will be rooting for the Cowboys. No way I would ever root for Favre, no matter how great people say he is. Last year Favre had the Jets 8-3, they finished the season going 1-4. The Vikings started 10-1 this year, they are 1-3 in their last 4.
I was 10-6 on my NFL picks for the week. With one week to go, I am 156-84.

Rainy and cold Monday
I wasn't about to venture out last night to get a picture like Brian did. The weather has been cold and wet. Today is suppose to be a better day, then get colder again. This picture goes with this one. Both are part of a larger abandoned complex of buildings and silos.

Friday night 3 young girls from Terrell were killed crossing a state highway in town.

TxDOT Comments On Fatal State Highway 34 Accident
From one of the Tribune stories, a fund has been set up at American National Bank to assist the families with funeral costs. Checks can be made payable to Segura/Roa Family, and may be taken directly to the bank or taken to any school campus c/o TISD Fine Arts Director Dana Skelton.
I will have my football update a little later today.

Road Trip-My money at work
We took a trip up to Choctaw Casino on Sunday. I lost less than I expected to lose, so that's a win....right? Below you can see what my money is helping build. A high rise hotel and larger casino. I wish the Texas Legislature would allow Texans the opportunity to vote on bringing casinos to Texas.

Wear your favorite sports team logo to Chick-fil-a Monday and get a free chicken sandwich. Ya think they are going to be busy?

This seems like a lifetime ago
Today is a roadtrip back in time.
An old friend from my Air Force days recently got in contact with me through Facebook. We were roommates in what seems like another life. Back in early 1990, when I returned from Germany I wasn't able to bring back all of my possessions, they would only allow so much weight to come back. Some of the things left were my old high school yearbooks. My old Air Force friend, who held on to those books for almost 20 years, mailed them to me last week. I have been spending a lot of time thumbing through the pages. I can't believe he held on to them for so long. I owe him a big thank you. Thanks to him I have all four years from high school AND my 7th grade yearbook.
This is a picture I scanned from my senior yearbook. It was the third year radio students. I am in the front row on the right in the Air Force shirt. We were WRTE 89.5 FM. Cahokia, IL. Class of 1982.

I was a nerd in high school. Who would have guessed?

Trying my hand a fishing
Lake Texoma last weekend. I need to get a fishing reel that's set up for a lefty. That's my excuse for not catching anything, and I'm sticking to it.

If anyone will be attending the TEA party today in Kaufman and would like to send in pictures, I will post them and give full credit to the photographer. Email them to terrelldailyphoto@hotmail.com. It starts at noon.
Click on Terrell Daily Photo at the top of the banner page to make sure you are on the main page.

Lake Texoma fishermen
Shawn and Mack fishing off of a dock at Lake Texoma. They bragged about how great they were. They caught zero fish Saturday afternoon.

Somehow I kept remembering the clip below when I saw them sitting out there. They were not out on the boat, but everything else seemed similar.

Is it Friday yet?
Did anyone get that number of that tank that hit me?

Thats the way I feel, this has been a long week already.

Out of town trip
We had to take a trip out of town earlier this month. Our guests made sure we had the best room in town.

Unrelated to my picture, is a story by Tricia over at the Terrell Tribune. I am sure every community has at someone going to D.C. this week for the inauguration of Barack Obama. Tricia has a wonderful story about two sisters who are making the trip. I can imagine how exciting it will be for everyone there to see it live, even from a distance. Even with the crowds, it's a trip I would make if I could.

Birds II
I hope everyone had a great Christmas. I was without my internet for the past few days, so I haven't been able to visit anyone. I promise to try to catch up this weekend, as long as the birds don't carry me away.

High Rollers
Brian and Kim somewhere between Dallas and Houston playing cards on Southwest Airlines. Kim was making the trip to Vicksburg and we tagged along.
They found the 7 of spades under Kim's foot when we landed. She said it was an accident. :-)

First Monday, Canton, Texas
Friday, Michael over at Obstructed View posted a link to a story about sales at First Monday Trade Days in Canton. Since this is First Monday weekend and the weather is nice we decided to take a trip out there.
I'm not sure of the average price spent per person, but judging by the size of yesterdays crowd sales have to be picking up. Its hard to describe how large First Monday is, other than saying it's huge and you just have to go out there for yourself. There are two more Trade Day weekends before Christmas.

One of the popular items I saw was a stand that sold large foam cups with college logos on them. Texas Tech seemed to be selling faster than the other schools. Not sure if Texas Tech alums have more school spirit or if they don't care about the environment and would still by foam cups.

Reunion tower is 560 ft tall and has a restaurant and observation deck. I havent been up there, but its on my "to-do" list.

Road Trip-Dallas World Aquarium
I took a road trip with Brian and his sister Tricia to the Dallas World Aquarium. It was a lot more than what I expected. Pictured is a walkway underneath one of the large tanks. Brian in on the left sitting down in the blue shirt and Tricia is standing next to him facing the tank. If you are going to be traveling to Dallas or are looking for a place to take the kids, this is a must see.
