Ready for the games to count

Yesterday the Tigers held a fund raiser by having a 100 inning game.  Varsity and Junior Varsity were split up into red and white teams.  Look for baseball pictures all week.

The sky was clear last night allowing the temperature to drop into the 20s. Nothing like the low temperatures our friends up north are getting.

Today will be a busy day for TISD athletics.

The Lady Tigers soccer team begins this morning in a postponed game from yesterday.  They ladies will play Argyle at 10am.  If they win, they they play again at 4pm.  If they lose they play at 2pm.  Click the map for the location of the Lovejoy fields.  The ladies will also be in action on Saturday.

The boys soccer team takes on the Plano Wildcats starting 1:15pm at Homer Johnson Stadium in Garland.  They then travel to Williams Stadium to take on Allen at 6:30pm.   Below are directions to HBJ Stadium and Williams Stadium.  Like the ladies the boys will be in action Saturday.   Both games are part of the Garland tournament.

Coach Mike Halac will take his Lady Tiger basketball team to Red Oak to face the Hawks in a critical District 15-4A game, tip off is 7:30pm. Find your way to Red Oak by using the directions below.

The boys basketball team has the shortest route to their game tonight. They host Red Oak, tip off is 8pm. This is their second meeting with Red Oak, but the first district game against them. They met earlier this year in Royse City, losing in the championship game of the Royse City tournament. Red Oak won the game 53-47.

Tigers are back in it now

Terrell fell behind 9-0 to the Hawks from Red Oak Friday night in Terrell, but the Tigers scored the final 14 points to win 14-9 on Homecoming night.

Devante Turner scored what ended up being the game winner, hauling in a 24 yard pass from Shea South. Tigers district record is now 1-2. They travel to Forney next Friday night.

District play begins

Tonight at Memorial Stadium in Terrell, the 2-0 Tigers host the 2-0 Mesquite Poteet Pirates in the district opener for both teams. Both teams were picked to finish in the bottom half of the district this year.

The Tigers defense, who didnt allow a touchdown last week to Greenville will be tested tonight. The coaches will have to come up with a game plan to contain Pirate QB Beau Nowell and WR Justin Velasquez, both are off to fast starts. The Tiger offense and special teams will have to limit turnovers and mistakes.

Both shots today are of the defensive team during last weeks game.

The biggest key to the game? Outscore the Pirates.

Wet weather on the way

Those of us in North Texas enjoyed beautiful weather for the Labor Day weekend. That's about to change, the forecast calls for rain beginning today through Thursday due to tropical storm Hermine.

My photos today are the Tigerettes lined up to cheer the Tigers onto the field and during their halftime performance. Friday I'll try to get some of the band.

The Terrell Tigers are ranked #18 this week by the Dallas Morning News. Mesquite Poteet, who visits Terrell this Friday night, is ranked #15. Seven of the nine teams in district 15-4A are ranked this week.

This weekend is shaping up to be a busy one. Saturday morning is the Rib, Rub and Run 5K in Rockwall.

Saturday afternoon is the First Baptist Church Outdoor Expo.

All day Saturday and Sunday is the EEast Texxas Jamm at East Texas Choppers, 15 bands in 2 days. Tickets are $10 for both days, proceeds from ticket/raffle sales go to the Terrell Veterans Memorial Park fund.

You don't have to attend the Jamm to contribute to the Veterans Memorial Park. Make a donation, purchase a brick paver, sponsor a bench, emblem or other options here.

Terrell defeats Greenville 42-7

Terrell trailed 7-0 after giving up an early TD to Greenville off of a fumble but they didn't make many other mistakes. They scored the next 42 points. The Tigers (2-0) begin district play next week facing Mesquite Poteet (2-0) at home.

Shea South, Adrian Oliver and Demarcus Ayers provided the offensive fire power.

Demarcus Ayers provided excitement playing quarterback, running back and wide receiver.

Terrell, Texas Monday Morning Mashup

Summer vacation will be ending this week as many school districts head back to school. For me it means a longer trip to work through school zones.

The Tigers scrimmaged against Sulphur Springs Friday night. Terrell will have to be ready for the opener at Kaufman this Friday. Kaufman is ranked #10 in the 2A/3A Dallas Morning News rankings. Terrell is a 4A school and picked to finish in the second half of their district. Check Terrell Daily Photo on Facebook for over 50 pictures from the Sulphur Springs scrimmage. Brian and I went to Books and Crannies yesterday to see The Vagabond Players perform Neil Simon's "Barefoot in the Park" It was their final performance and it was sold out, but Gayle Harris, owner of Books and Crannies said she would find us two seats. The players did a super job. Hats off to Director Ron Harris and the cast Mitch and Jamie Keeler, Darlene and Wayne Higgins and Mark Reynolds. It was my first play in years. I look forward to their next production.

I also added a small album on Facebook from the Taste of Terrell. If you missed Saturdays post, the Taste of Terrell was great. Lots of food to eat!

Snow!

It snowed in Terrell!



OK, it snowed in February in Terrell.

The high temperature yesterday was 104. The thermometer is suppose top 100 for at least the next 7 days.

Terrell Tigers sports are about to kick into high gear. Last night Brian and I attended our first Terrell Athletic Booster Club meeting at the TISD complex.

The girls volleyball team started practicing yesterday. They have a pair of scrimmages later this week and open the season next Tuesday at home. The varsity starts at 6:30.

Summer football camp began yesterday for 7th and 8th graders. Almost 60 kids showed up.

Prior to the game being called last night, Terrell did turn in a few good plays. This is one of them. A beautiful interception to kill a Forney drive.



The Tigers next chance to make a good impression will be on August 20th when the scrimmage at Sulphur Springs.

Tigers take 2 on Tuesday

Terrell's 7 on 7 football team won both games last night in the 7 on 7 passing league. The Tigers were able to run past Mabank in the early game. The Tigers started slow in the second game, but put it together on both sides of the ball to pull away from North Forney in the second half. The Tigers take a 4-1-1 record into the final week. Next Tuesday, Terrell will take on Rockwall Heath in the opening game and a bowl game in the nightcap. I will have a complete album posted on Facebook later tonight from both of last nights games.

A note not related to sports. Do you ever notice the vehicles around you on your drive to or from work? Maybe you see the same license plate every day or a car that you want to buy is always next to you . You don't know the person driving it, but you recognize the car. That's the way it is for us on the drive to Plano every morning. We see the same cars every day. We have a neighbor who drives a work van into work. We see the van 2 or 3 times a week on the road. We don't know the driver, but we know the van. If we see it on the road, we know we are on time. Yesterday morning on the way to work on highway 205 we saw flashing lights. Not unusual because they always are running radar. As we got closer we noticed more flashing lights. The highway is a two lane country highway, but it has a lot of traffic going north in the morning. As we got to the lights we noticed the work van that we always see had wrecked. The ambulance was there and the van was in bad shape. It looked like it had crashed into a fence made of iron, the kind you see around pastures. As we drove past we felt like we knew the person in the van and could only pray he was alright. A few miles down the road the ambulance passed us going to the hospital. The work van was for a Dallas area electric company that I follow on Facebook. Shortly after getting to work, the company posted to Facebook about the accident and said the driver was in the hospital but would be OK. Lets hope he recovers fast.

Terrell, Texas Monday Morning Mashup

News from Terrell ISD is that Casey Rush has resigned as Tigers varsity baseball coach. Coach Rush guided the Tigers to the playoffs in 2009 & 2010. Terrell Athletic Director Chris Gilbert said Coach Rush did a great job while with the program and he will use all avenues in the search for a new coach.

The football Tigers resume play in the 7 on 7 passing league tomorrow night. The first game is against Mabank, the second game is against North Forney. The fun starts at 6:30PM. Photos from week 2 are posted to the Terrell Daily Photo Facebook page. Be sure to visit and hit the "like" button.

Much is being made about the Tigers being predicted to finish 7th in the new 15-4A football district. Twenty Peaceful Minutes user NorthTexUmp posted the record for all of the teams in 15-4A for the last 5 years. I will just wait to see how to games play out. Sometimes the long shot does pretty good.

My time in Saturdays Pioneer Days 5K was 34:37, I was hoping to be just a bit faster. The next race is the Too Hot to Handle on July 18th in Norbuck Park, White Rock Lake.

This Saturday the 26th is the Terrell Veterans Memorial Fun Run. All proceeds of the run will benefit the Terrell Veterans Memorial Park. The run will start at East Texas Choppers. Registration starts at 8:00AM, the run starts at 11:00AM. Cost is $30 per bike or $200 for VIP.

7 on 7 football week 2

Terrell had better results last night in week 2 of the 7 on 7 passing league. In the first game the scored on the final play of the game to salvage a tie against Kaufman. In the second game, Forney B scored first to take a 7-0 lead. Terrell then scored the next 45 points to win easily 45-7. Terrell is now 2-1-1.

Play began last night in the Forney 7 on 7 passing league. Eight teams play two games every Tuesday night. Terrell opened their play with a win against the Forney A team. Terrell dropped the second game to Dallas Christian.

Tigers come up short again

Terrell lost to District leader Mesquite Poteet 6-5 last night. Heath Hottinger gave Terrell a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the second after he hit a 3 run homer over the left field fence. Poteet wasted no time making up the deficit and taking the lead, scoring 4 times in the top of the next inning to lead 5-3. Terrell was never able to get the lead back.

Three runs not enough

Friday night, Terrell Tigers coach Casey Rush told his team in the top of the 3rd inning that 3 runs would not be enough to beat Red Oak. He was right, they lost in extra innings 7-4.

Terrell jumped to a 3-0 lead after 1 inning when Nathan Adam hit a full count, 2 out, 3 run double. Terrell had opportunities to score more runs in later innings, but each time Red Oak was able to pitch out of jams.

Red Oak scored single runs in the 4th, 5th and tied the score 3-3 in the 7th with another single run.

Terrell had one more chance to win the game in the bottom of the 7th but was unable to get a runner home.

Red Oak scored 4 times in the top of the 8th inning, enough to put Terrell away. The Tigers managed to score one run in the bottom of the 8th, final score 7-4.

Hillcrest High School visits Terrell

The Terrell Tigers took advantage of a break in the district schedule to play host to Hillcrest Panthers from DISD. Terrell lost the game 9-2, but since it was not a district game, it does not hurt their playoff chances. Terrell returns to district action Friday night at home against Red Oak.

Tigers win the game lose a shortstop

The Tigers put away the Wranglers from West Mesquite last night winning 12-2 in a five inning 10 run rule game. The Tigers did lose lead off batter and starting shortstop Nathan Adam in the bottom of the 1st inning after he hurt his ankle on the 1st base bag. He left the game but he was able to put some weight on the ankle a little later on.
