Jasons Hot Rodz Cafe

I am not sure what sign shocked me most. The idea that men may be bad cooks or being told to move when I sat down to eat.

These signs are part of Jasons Hot Rodz Cafe. You can also find the hippy sign and 8 veggies daily there. The food is really good and the owner has a good sense of humor. It's located at the corner of Moore Ave and SH 34 in Terrell. Stop by and try the hamburger steak with bbq beans and mashed potatoes.

Just a couple more fireworks

Did I ever say how much I love Monday mornings? I didnt think so.

Just a few more fireworks pictures to share.

I love the way the ground was lit up from the blast.

Here is part of the finale. I uploaded a clip on you tube of a portion of the fireworks show. Click on the you tube link on the right. The fireworks show alone is worth the drive to Terrell from Dallas or Collin County. Tomorrow pictures of the North East Texas Symphony Orchestra.

The next picture was taken at 9:25PM just about time for

Still trying to decide where to watch fireworks on the 4th? Come visit us in Terrell. Activities are planned for Ben Gill Park starting at 5PM.

Slow walk

You can tell how the ropers did by the speed they went to retrieve their ropes off of the calfs. This guy was going pretty slow after his failed run. You can see his rope being dragged by the calf. I would love to try to do something like this, but the fear of getting knocked off would keep me from actually doing it. If pros get injured, its no place for me. It did look like the riders got more injuries than the animals. I will be going back to the Wade Indoor Arena next month.

Roping fun at Wade Arena, Terrell, Texas

Photos from the roping competition at Wade Arena in Terrell. Not as clear or crisp as I would like. I have something to work on, during my next trip.

Wade Indoor Arena Roping

Riders gather around the staging area waiting for their name to be called to rope. Each rider must have completed at least 10 runs. They were going all night.

Of course, you have to practice before taking your turn.

Riders returning to the front after completing their runs.

Tomorrow, I will start posting some of the action shots. I wish they turned out better, but it gives me something to work on during my next visit.

Softball in Ben Gill Park

Summer fun at Ben Gill Park. The park has four softball fields. Usually every night there are at least two of the fields in use. Last night all four field were in use, one game after the other.

It has been a while since I posted a nighttime picture of Terrell. This is Moore Ave, the main drag through town. It was taken Saturday night around 9:30PM looking east.

Antique Tractor and Engine Club

The North Texas Antique & Engine Club made their annual stop in Terrell this weekend. Pictured is an antique McCormick-Deering threshing machine. Grain is fed into the machine and separated into the wheat and straw. They fired this baby up and showed everyone what it does. I will post a few more pictures of this machine and others on display over the next few days.

The picture was taken this morning about 10:30am. Check out how clear the sky is today. I am off to do something fun.

Antique tractor and engine show

This weekend is the Antique tractor and engine show at Ben Gill Park. This is an annual event in Terrell, but this will be my first time going. What time can I expect to see everyone?

Kaufman County Online has information concerning the funeral procession for Spc. Jonathon Emard. I contacted the Terrell Marketing Center this morning and verified the processions will be on Moore Ave between the streets listed in the story. I am going to try to pay my respects tomorrow or Friday.

Rainbow over Terrell

Every once in a while we get a rainbow over Terrell. Yesterday was one of those days. We had a rain shower with the sun out. We are getting more rain this morning, but that's a good thing here. Everyone have a great day.

The itinerary for the return of Spc. Emard to Terrell can be found here. There may be additional details released, if so I will post them or try to link to them.

My reflection

Earlier this month I posted a reflection shot of the main drag through Terrell. At the same time I took that picture, I took this one. If you look closely in the reflection you can see D O R K written on my forehead. This is the shot I am now using for my profile picture. I think it looks a little better than the old picture.

The Wacky Walkers prepare to walk their lap at the Relay for Life last Saturday. The Terrell Tribune reports that over $130,000 was raised.

Hoss Man

This guy was directing traffic at the Run for the Wall stop in Terrell. I think the name on the back of his vest said Hoss Man. If I am wrong I apologize. Riders stopped in Terrell for fuel, a bite to eat and to pick up more riders. This guy looked like he was having a great time. Check out my you tube clips of him doing his directing.

Run for the Wall 2008, Terrell, Texas

Sunday morning Terrell was a a fuel stop for the Southern Route for Run for the Wall XX. It was quite impressive to see so many motorcycles and veterans rolling through. More information about the Southern Route can be found here.

The mission statement for RFTW is:

Mission Statement: To promote healing among ALL veterans and their families and friends, to call for an accounting of all Prisoners of War and those Missing in Action (POW/MIA), to honor the memory of those Killed in Action (KIA) from all wars, and to support our military personnel all over the world.

Philosophy: We strive to maintain a safe, supportive and private atmosphere in which all participants can reflect and heal on their journey to the Vietnam Memorial in Washington, D.C. in the hope that they can return home to a new beginning.
Goals:

1. To guide the participants across America.
2. To educate future generations as to the importance of accountability in wartime actions emphasizing that no one should be left behind.
3. To participate in Rolling Thunder in support of their demand for government accountability for POW/MIA's.

It is very hard to find one picture to get describe the morning.

Below is a clip of the riders heading out from Terrell to the next stop Longview, TX.

Relay for Life 2008 Terrell/Kaufman County

I am posting late today for a good reason. Tonight the track and infield at Herman Furlough Middle School is host to Relay for Life 2008 of Terrell/Kaufman County.

This is how the Relay of Life is described on the Terrell Chamber of Commerce website.

This overnight fundraiser for cancer research honors cancer survivors and caregivers and remembers those who succumbed to the disease. The event includes on-site fundraising activities sponsored by relay teams, who don't mind adding a little humor to a serious cause.

More information about the Relay for Life can be found here.

Bliss Hair Studio has a team raising money for the fight against cancer. There was at least one person donating more than cash. Follow the pictures below.

See that braid draped over her shoulder?

Just a little more......

All gone. This lady just donated 21" of hair. Awesome.

Last of the Sugar Rush 5K Run

My finish line photos didn't come out as good as I would have liked. The top photo is the overall winner crossing the finish line.

Below is the first lady to cross the finish. I think she was maybe 5th overall.

Follow this link for more pictures of the start and finish of the race. Next year the race will be held during the Heritage Jubilee.

Koffee Kake that I showed back in February is Debbies shop. If you are in town stop by and get a coffee and something sweet. My favorite is a mandarin glaze muffin.

Mayor Richards runs the Sugar Rush 5K

One of the sponsors of the Sugar Rush 5K was the City of Terrell. One of the participants in the race was Terrell Mayor Hal Richards.

Mayor Richards posed for photos with Debbie before the start of the race.

Was all smiles at the start of the race.

Crossing the finish line and ready to run another 5K........but maybe not today.

Way to go.
