Terrell, Texas Monday Morning Mashup

A short MMM, for a short month. February is already ending, that was fast.

Please vote for my photo in the iHigh contest.  Just click on the baseball player to the right.  I am in the top 25.  Friday they cut it down to the top 10.  Help me make it to the next round.

Saturday was the Cowtown 5K & 10K. I ran the 5K, Brian tackled the 10K. Brian has some shots of the 5K runners nearing the finish line. I think these ladies were getting in a workout before the 5K race. Sunday was the Marathon, Half Marathon and Ultra Marathon.

From Dallas NBC Channel 5:
Cowtown by the numbers:
Kids 5K - 4,540
Adult 5K - 5,457
Adult 10K - 4,344
Half Marathon - 5,944
Marathon - 1,435
Ultra Marathon - 288

Information for the Fountain 5K is finally online.  Its April 16th at 9am.  I hope they have a good turnout, there is a lot of competition on that day, including races in Rockwall and Sunnyvale.

Don't you hate reading something online or in a paper and know that its wrong? Or the person writing or describing the action on television doesn't have a clue about the event or sport?

Lady Tigers roll over Crandall

The Terrell Lady Tigers soccer team defeated Crandall for the second time this year, this time by a score of 5-0.  The Tigers took a 2-0 lead after the first half, the second goal coming with just 7.5 seconds left in the half.  They added 3 goals in the second half and the outcome was never in question.

The Tigers push their record to 12-5-1 overall and 5-2 in District play.

My photo I entered in the iHigh contest has made it to the top 25.  Vote is underway for just the top 25.  Please follow this link and vote for my picture.  Vote as many times as you like, every day till next Friday. n

Tigers drop opener 12-7 to Lakeview

The Tigers hosted Garland Lakeview last night in the opening game of the year.  Lakeview led the entire game and won 12-7.  Lakeview scored a single run in the first inning, add four more in the top of the third to take a 5-0 lead.  The Tigers got their 7 runs in two innings.  In the third, Cody Weishaar doubled home Dalton White for the first Tiger run, and after a walk to Dillon Patton, Victor Andrade tripled home two runs.  Terrell trailed after three innings 5-3.  Lakeview was quick to put more distance between them and the Tigers, when they scored five more times in the top of the fourth.  After four innings they led 10-3.  In the bottom of the fifth inning, shaky pitching by Lakeview allowed Terrell to get back into the game as they scored four times.  After five innings the Tigers trailed 10-7.  Terrell was unable to mount any offense in the last two innings and Lakeview added two runs in the top of the seventh for the final score of 12-7.

The Tigers will play in the DeSoto tournament beginning Thursday.  They play at 3PM against Grace Prep and at 5:30PM against Cedar Hill.   They have a rematch with Lakeview on Friday at 12:30PM.   Saturday morning they play Mesquite Horn at 10AM.  All of the games will be played at Cedar Hill.  Depending on how Terrell does, they could play an additional game Saturday afternoon in DeSoto.

Late night regrets

The drive thru always sounds good late at night.  But after finishing a #3 large combo it doesn't feel so good trying to get to sleep.

The 2011 Terrell Tigers baseball team takes the field tonight at Ben Gill Park for their first game that counts.  Garland Lakeview Centennial will send their varsity squad here, first pitch is scheduled for 6PM.  The Tiger JV team will travel to Garland and their first pitch is 5PM.

The Lady Tigers softball team hosts Poteet today at 4:30PM

Tigers soccer hosts Poteet at Memorial Stadium, game time is set for 7PM
The Lady Tigers soccer team travels to Poteet, their match starts at 7PM

Vote for my photo on ihigh.  You can vote more than once.  I said yesterday I was photo #222.  The link is 222 but my photo is #223. I don't have a chance to win, it looks like some photos are getting over 100 votes an hour, and one photo got over 40,000 votes since last night (nothing fishy there, lol).  But its still nice to know people will vote. You can also visit the Terrell iHigh page.  We always could use the visitors.

I have a 5K race this week, its part of the Cowtown Marathon.  They also run a 10K that Brian will be running.  The race calender is starting to fill up for the Spring.  The Fountain 5K organizers need to get on the ball if they are going to have a run in Terrell during the Jubilee.  There are already over a half dozen races scheduled for that day, including one in Rockwall.

Terrell, Texas Monday Morning Mashup

Maybe I should change my Monday post to Terrell Tiger Monday Morning Mashup.

IHigh the sports website I am always pushing on here is holding a photography contest.  I entered one of my baseball pictures.  Please vote for my pic.  Follow this link to vote.  Its photo #222.

Terrell graduate, Barrett Calverley pitched a one hitter Friday afternoon in Grand Prairie leading his LeTourneau Yellowjackets to a win over Castleton State.

2009 Terrell graduate, Dustin Jackson has helped Tyler Junior College get off to a 10-1 start.  Dustin has played right field and pitched for the Apaches.

The Tigers were busy Friday night and Saturday.  I have albums posted to Facebook and iHigh.  Check out each.  The Tigers schedule for the week is posted on the iHigh calendar.

Is bigger better?

A model city that was at the Stock Show in Ft. Worth. It was a display by a power producing company showing all of the different ways power can be produced.  I just thought it was a big neat toy.

Kaufman County grew by 45% between the 2000 census and the 2010 census.

Come out to Terrell tomorrow morning for the Tigers baseball teams 100 inning game beginning at 10am at the ball field in Ben Gill Park.

The Lady Tigers softball team continues play in the Forney ISD Invitational Softball Tournament.  They play at 11am against Canyon Russell and at 5pm against Hillcrest.

The Lady Tigers soccer team lost their first District game of the season last night to Forney 3-0.  Their record falls to 11-4-1 overall and 3-1 in district.

A full schedule for Terrell ISD athletics tonight.  Check the ihigh calender for specifics.

Terrell, Texas Monday Morning Mashup

I stayed up watching the Grammys last night.  What is an Arcade Fire?  The best I can tell is its something that sucks.  I enjoyed  Mick Jagger and Barbara Streisand, two artist in their 60s, more than any of the younger performers.  Is it I am getting old, or the younger crowd cant sing?  I did like Eminem and Dr. Dre, but I don't think they can be considered part of the young crowd anymore either.

Its suppose to be near 70 degrees all week in Terrell.

Another baseball shot this morning to let you know there are two albums from Saturdays scrimmage posted to the iHigh website.  Click on the link to the right.  If you click the iHigh link, the Terrell Booster Club gets credit for a hit.  We are trying to get as many hits as we can for the month so please help us out by giving www.ihigh.com/terrelltigers a visit.

I also uploaded to the Terrell Daily Photo Facebook page the baseball scrimmage album and an album from the Lady Tigers basketball Senior Night.

The Lady Tigers soccer team has a game tonight at Forney.  Its a game that was postponed by bad weather.  The Tigers are currently in first play in district play.

The baseball Tigers have a couple of more scrimmages this week and the 100 inning fund raiser on Saturday before starting real game play next week.

LeTourneau baseball started this past weekend.  Check out how the former Tigers are doing.

Seventy degree Saturday

Saturday was a great day to be outside.   Terrell varsity scrimmaged Rockwall at ball field at Ben Gill Park.

JV Baseball

The weather warmed up yesterday, so I headed out to the ball field to catch some JV practice.  I need to work on my settings, outdoor baseball is certainly different than indoor basketball.

This morning is a 5K run in Dallas.  I haven't been able to run much because of the weather.  I hope I can at least finish vertical.

The Lady Tigers soccer team beat Kaufman last night.  They are now 3-0 in district play and 11-3-1 overall.  The boys lost at home to Kaufman in a shootout.

Monthly Street

I have committed to taking a picture of my street on the same day every month. Last months photo can be found here.  We had snow and sleet yesterday morning, but it was gone by the end of the day when I got my picture.  You really cant see it in todays picture, but the trees on the right have been trimmed to stay clear of the electric lines.

Today is scheduled to be the last day to apply for the Athletic Director/Head Football Coach job for Terrell ISD.

The soccer games scheduled for tonight have been pushed back.  The postponement of tonights nights games sets up a showdown Friday night in Kaufman for the Lady Tigers soccer team.  Kaufman and Terrell are both off to 2-0 starts in district play.  The Lady Tigers have an overall record of 10-3-1.

Baseball practice continues

I got a chance to watch the baseball team practice a little last night.  The weather was cold, but they have to take advantage of all the practice time they can get.  Forecast today is for more snow and below freezing temperatures.

A busy night last night makes for a double post today. Visit www.ihigh/terrelltigers for Tiger Sports info.

Lady Tigers soccer shuts out West Mesquite

Last night the Lady Tigers soccer team hosted West Mesquite at Memorial Stadium.  Terrell scored 4 times in the second half and won 5-0.  Mollie Tolbert scored 3 times for the Tigers.  Their District record is 2-0 and they are 10-3-1 overall.   Tigers coach John Lantrip always fields a tough team, and this year seems no different.

The boys and girls basketball teams both lost their games to Lancaster.  The boys soccer team lost to West Mesquite.

Knocked out

The Terrell Lady Tigers had a chance to keep their playoff hopes alive last night when they hosted the Wranglers from West Mesquite.  Unfortunately, the they were on the short end of a 53-32 score ending any hopes for the playoffs, at least for this year.

The ladies have played hard all year for first year Coach Mike Halac.  They have two games remaining.  They will play at Lancaster tonight, and Senior night Thursday night against Ennis.

The boys and girls soccer teams got off to good started in District 23-4A.  They both shut out Crandall.  The girls won 4-0, the boys score, 3-0.

Terrell will get a chance to see their former AD and Head Football Coach Chris Gilbert tonight.  Coach Gilbert was to have accepted the Assistant AD and Head Football Coach at Lancaster during last nights LISD School Board meeting.

Terrell, Texas Monday Morning Mashup

This will be my last picture of snow and ice for the year....

The Super Bowl was a good game.  The wrong team won, but it was ok.  The commercials were nothing great.  I saw a couple I liked, but most were lame.

This is a busy week for Terrell High School Athletics.   Check out the revised schedule on ihigh. Ihigh is the website being used by the booster club and we can get paid by the visits, so please click on the link at least once.

In addition to the Warrior Dash, on April 16 & 17 in Roanoke, TX, WD photos album 1 & album 2 and the family friendly Caveman Crawl on June 18th in Bridgeport, TX, CC photos, is the Texas Chicken Run on April 30 & May 1 in Rockwall, TX.  I need to find a way to get pictures from the Chicken Run.  Its not far from Terrell.

I added two photo albums on the Terrell Daily Photo Facebook page of the snow and ice.  Click over to see what Terrell looked like last week.  Recommend the page to your friends, and make sure you 'like' the page.

This is at Ben Gill Park.  Check out the ducks walking on the ice.

.....snow is in the forecast for Wednesday.

A day of picture taking in the snow

I posted some pictures to the Terrell Daily Photo Facebook page from around town. I'll post a couple here over the next couple of days.

Snow kidding

Really, they told us 1-3 inches? We have 6 inches on the ground right now and snow still coming down. School has been canceled for the day. I am sure the local sporting events will be canceled or postponed again.  Of course they didn't pick up the garbage yesterday.

This was taken this morning at 5:45. Same view as Tuesday morning.

I need to get out

The roads are getting better, but I really haven't been able to get out anywhere since Monday.  My picture today is from Tuesday morning when it was starting to change over from rain to sleet.  More snow is due on Friday morning.  Dallas will never get another Super Bowl after this, and forget the Cotton bowl becoming a BCS bowl.

Warmer weather please

This was my original post for yesterday, before I woke up and found out I lived in North Dakota.  The temperature was in the teens last night.

Rain, sleet, snow

The weather is getting bad outside, rain changing over to sleet in Terrell at 6AM. It's suppose to change over to snow later and temperatures drop into the teens this afternoon. Great Pittsburgh and Green Bay weather.  You can't really see the rain in this picture, it's part of my front yard, taken about 5:45 this morning.  All of the local school districts including Terrell ISD have cancelled classes for the day because of the weather
