Favorite post #5
Today I start posting my favorite pictures. Today will be #5 and I will count down until I get to #1 on New Years Day. I only have 7 months to choose from, so some of these may seem recent.

Cement mixers in a row
This was first posted November 3rd. I think I like this pick because of its uniformity. All trucks in a row, waiting to begin their day. Since I took the picture, I have noticed them lined up every time I pass by.

Hungry?
A post yesterday by Web-OJ reminded me of a sign for a local chicken place. Not sure if its funny, gross or a very cleaver idea.....oh I mean clever. I haven't stopped in to try the chicken, it smells good, even if the picture is a bit fowl.

Never thought I would make it to 200 posts. Rather than post something new, I want post 200 to be something from the past, not something I posted before but something really old. So, staying in the holiday spirit, here is my sister and me on Santas lap. I dont know the year, but it had to be in the early 70s.

Maggianos
Yesterday was our Christmas lunch at work. We were treated to Maggianos in Plano, TX. The food was super. I would have taken pictures of the food but the people at my table were hungry and didn't care to wait.
The dining is family style, which was a first for me. They bring out the plates of food for the entire table. Our table had seven people, so they brought out food for seven. We had a whole chicken, pork, spaghetti and meat sauce, cheese ravioli. There was some green stuff, I think called vegetables, I didn't pay much attention to them. It was fun, and a great way to spend time with coworkers without talking work.

I hear today is the busiest day of the season for the postal service. One billion pieces of mail will be sent today through the US Postal Service.
Have you already mailed your cards and packages?

Remember this post? I asked if it was a water tank or an alien spaceship. Happen to drive past with the draping up. Looks like they were just giving the water tank a coat of paint.

Everyone loves a parade
Yesterday Kate said that everyone loves a parade. Well, almost everyone. Here is the float for the Rafter J Cowboy Church that was in the Terrell Christmas Parade. I am sure the young boy was just relaxing for a minute. The parade route was really long.
For Christmas Parade pictures of classic cars, mudders, go carts, new cars and politicians go here.

2007 Terrell Texas Christmas parade
Today was a beautiful day for Terrell's annual Stanley Ballard Sr. Christmas Parade. The weather could not have been better, the temperature was in the 70s the sky was overcast but not dreary.
I took a ton of photos that I will probably be going through for days. I was so busy taking pictures many times I didn't even get to see what was passing by. I found this as I was going over them and thought it was a great one to start with. I didn't even notice this little girl when I took the picture. Today was a lot of fun. I hope everyone can deal with the pictures for the next week. When I get done they all will be posted on my second page.
On a different note. If you are the person who lifted photos from this website and posted them to you tube as a slide show please remove it or at least give credit to this site. I am very upset (I would like to use another word) at finding my pictures in a slide show created by someone else. To make it worse, the individual has his own face plastered in the slide show. So Richard Rauch please remove the slide show from you tube, you did not take the photos. I guess I will now start tagging my photos with my site.

I'll be home for Christmas
In October I posted a couple pictures of my neighbors porch. It was decorated for Halloween. They have finished their display for Christmas.
Unfortunately the pictures do not give the same feeling as standing in front of their house and admiring what they have created. Playing in the background is the song "I'll be home for Christmas".
Nothing to do with Christmas, but I posted a few pictures of the birds that have been hanging out near my work here. I expect them to attack when I drive past.

Christmas tree farm
Just outside of Terrell is a Christmas tree farm. This weekend families packed into the van and headed out to cut down a fresh tree. The ones pictured are already cut, but the farm has a huge area of trees ready to be cut. It does seem a bit strange going out for a Christmas tree when the temperature is 81F.

For Sale
As far as I know this house has been empty for some time. It sits on a curve of a highway that runs through Terrell. Looks like someone missed the curve. Notice the sign on the left side? Thats a for sale sign that has been up for a while. I wonder if a buyer can get a discount now?

Terrell Heritage Museum
This is a different angle of the banner photo, which is the Terrell Heritage museum located just off the old downtown area of Terrell. The museum is open to the public and includes some artifacts of early life in Terrell. Upstairs they have the remains of an old pump pipe organ and some archived pictures of the city as it was first growing into the metropolis that it is today.
I had some paint shop fun with this pic and am posting some variations at my second site. Please stop over and let me know what you think.

Green house
Here is one of Terrells older homes. The owners of the house have been working hard to fix it up over the last year. The house used to have a large porch that wrapped around the front and side. There is a house next door that is a mirror image of this one. It also needs some work, but it does have the porch.

Wind sailing on Lake Ray Hubbard
The temperature yesterday was a record high. It was 84F. A major winter cold front is coming in today, so by tomorrow morning the temperature will be in the 40s F. I think the photo shows wind sailing, but I am not sure if that's the right name. They are on Lake Ray Hubbard any time there is a wind. I think yesterday may be the last time they are on the lake for a while.
There are a couple of extra pictures on my second page.

Overcast morning
I like getting up early and going out with my camera on weekends. Yesterday morning was overcast with a few sprinkles. I got this picture of the sunrise. This is looking from the south of downtown to the southeast.
Yesterday was another road trip. I have posted pictures of the trip on my second site. Yesterdays trip to us to Yantis, Texas.

Dentist office
I like going to the dentist as much as the next guy, but do they have to keep their light on and the shades open at night? My teeth hurt just driving past.
The dentist who works in this office is very good. I have been there a few times. He's kinda pricey though.

Books and Crannies at night
I went out last night looking to take a picture of the moon because the sky was so clear. I wanted to get it as a background to something else Who wants to see a picture of just the moon? The picture I am posting is not really the one I wanted, but I like how it turned out, well the street light could be placed somewhere else. Books and Crannies is a new and used bookstore in Terrells downtown area. Its in the first floor of the old Iris Theatre.

Memories from a photo
I have been trading emails with Mr. Jim Miller, Terrell High class of 58 and webmaster of TerrellHigh.com. Some of the pictures I have posted have brought back memories of his time in Terrell. He has been kind enough to share his stories with me. I love reading about what Terrell used to look like and how buildings have changed over the years.
The picture I posted the other day, the railroad car in the park, brought another story and memory from Mr. Miller. This one just as neat as the others.
Mr. Millers Grandfather, Arthur Clement Miller, was master mechanic for Midland Railroad. He also designed and supervised the construction of the coach used by Col. Green.
He sent a picture that his Mother had given him, and that’s my picture of the day, even though its not very new and wasn’t taken by me. It’s a picture of the coach with Col. Green and his son are to the right of the steps. Mr. Millers Grandfather is just to the left of the steps. If you look closely you can see an arrow pointing to his Grandfather.
He is not sure the coach in the picture is the same coach that’s in the park. I will have to take a closer look the next time I am in the park. It doesn’t really matter. The coach in the park is unique and the memory and picture from Mr. Miller, is fascinating. One day I will share his other memories.
I found an article from the New York Times about Col. Green and his mother. The story is a PDF file of the original published in 1916.
