Terrell, Texas Monday Morning Mashup

This was a sports weekend from Friday after work till Sunday night. Friday night started with a thrilling double overtime win for the Tigers playing at Kaufman. Saturday was my draft for the fantasy football league I play it. I'll post my roster at the bottom of today's post. I have been in the same league for over 10 years. It started as a work league, now we have 4 of 12 people still at the job. Sunday we were lucky and got to watch the Frisco Roughriders play. The Rangers had a few players playing in Frisco on rehab assignments, so we got to watch Ian Kinsler, Cristian Guzman and Dustin Nippert play. I wish Frisco was a closer drive.

Above is Ian Kinsler rounding second base.

Below, Michael Schlact delivers a pitch with a runner on the move.

Want to be in the movies? Alien Zombie Invasion will be shooting in Kaufman, TX beginning next month.

I changed out the Facebook badge on the right. I posted an album from Friday nights football game on there. I'll put one up of the Roughriders game later this week. Make sure you 'like' my Facebook page.

The Tigers have their home opener this Friday against Greenville. More on that later in the week.

I think I need to stop putting my ideas online.

Had breakfast at the Terrell IHOP over the weekend. It will be a while before I head back there. Service and food both were poor.

I didn't watch the Emmy's last night, but it looks like I have no taste, looks like most of my shows lost or were not even nominated.

My fantasy team
QB Matt Schaub
RB Maurice Jones-Drew
RB Rashard Mendenhall
WR Malcom Floyd
WR Wes Welker
WR Devin Hester
TE Brent Celek
K Garrett Hartley

Friday night fun

Just as much fun as watching Tiger football games is watching the entertainment provided by the other students. Cheerleaders, Tigerettes and the band are a huge part of Friday night football.

Terrell 27 Kaufman 21 2OT

An exciting game to renew the rivalry between the Tigers and Lions. Both teams had chances to win in regulation and overtime. Adrian Oliver scored in the 2nd OT to give the win to the Tigers. The Tribune should have a complete report of the game tomorrow.

This is Adrian Oliver breaking a run early in the game.

Week 0 football

Yesterday, Brian and I got to take team pictures for the All Sports program that will be sold at the home football games. It was fun, but hectic. We took pictures of all sports but the football teams. They had pictures taken earlier in the week.

Terrell travels to Kaufman tonight to open the 2010 Tigers football season. Join us, kickoff is set for 7:30.

If you cant make it to Kaufman for the game, listen to it live on KPYK AM 1570. I will also be trying to update the scores on the Terrell Daily Photo Facebook page.

I watched a fun high school game on TV last night. District foe, West Mesquite defeated Rockwall in a close game 32-28.

Cold Front

As the sun set last night a cold front moved in. Temperatures dipped into the low 70s last night, and the high today is only suppose to make it to 90. A nice break from the 100 degree weather.

Be at the Terrell Athletic Complex tonight at 6PM for Meet the Tigers.

Theater Set

Between Acts 1 & 2, the set for Barefoot in the Park at Books and Crannies.

School starts today for Terrell ISD. The athletic schedules for the year are posted.

Tomorrow night is Meet the Tigers. The best way to describe it, is it's a community pep assembly for the fall sports. Last year was pretty fun.

As much as I would like to see Terrell get a new football stadium, a high school stadium that costs $59.6 million dollars in Allen, Texas is just a bit over the top. I can't see Terrell voters every approving something that costly.

My little Tiger schedule to the right has the Tigers first game listed as on the 2nd. Its on the 3rd, Ill have to change that tonight.

Terrell, Texas Monday Morning Mashup

Summer vacation will be ending this week as many school districts head back to school. For me it means a longer trip to work through school zones.

The Tigers scrimmaged against Sulphur Springs Friday night. Terrell will have to be ready for the opener at Kaufman this Friday. Kaufman is ranked #10 in the 2A/3A Dallas Morning News rankings. Terrell is a 4A school and picked to finish in the second half of their district. Check Terrell Daily Photo on Facebook for over 50 pictures from the Sulphur Springs scrimmage. Make sure you hit the "like" button while there.

Don has a profile of the new Tigers broadcast team. KPYK AM 1570 broadcasts all Tiger football games. Be sure to check out his story on the Tribune website. The Tribune is published every Thursday and Sunday, pick up a copy at your favorite store.

Brian and I went to Books and Crannies yesterday to see The Vagabond Players perform Neil Simon's "Barefoot in the Park" It was their final performance and it was sold out, but Gayle Harris, owner of Books and Crannies said she would find us two seats. The players did a super job. Hats off to Director Ron Harris and the cast Mitch and Jamie Keeler, Darlene and Wayne Higgins and Mark Reynolds. It was my first play in years. I look forward to their next production.

I also added a small album on Facebook from the Taste of Terrell. If you missed Saturdays post, the Taste of Terrell was great. Lots of food to eat!

Twitter Trivia

Every Tuesday Vegas.com has a trivia contest on Twitter. They ask a question, then choose a random winner from all of the correct answers. This past Tuesday I was the lucky winner.

The prize is a Vegas swag bag. Its a bag full of Vegas goodies. Here is what my bag contained.

T-shirt, baggage tags, chips, deck of cards and a lot of Terry Fator goodies, including a DVD. Not bad for FREE, and everyone likes to win something.

Yep, its my birthday

This is the same picture I posted last year. Its me with my niece and nephew.

Tigers and Wildcats to face off

Friday night Tiger fans will have their first chance to watch the 2010 squad begin their quest for a return trip to the playoffs.

Just as they did last year, the Tigers will travel to Sulphur Springs to scrimmage against a tough Wildcat football team.

For the Tigers, Brandon Martin and Shea South will both get a chance to play and show what they can do. They are battling for the starting QB job. This will also be the first chance to see how the young group of WRs react to playing with pads and absorbing contact.

Sulphur Springs scrimmaged Lindale last week, so they already have an idea of what they have. They run a NASCAR style offense, that's a quick passing attack. Their first play last week was a short pass that ended up going for a 70 yard TD. Players to watch include Justin Owens, QB, Kendrick Daniels, RB, and Alvin Frazier, WR.

Last year Head Coach Greg Owens led his team to a 10-4 record. They made it to the 4A Division 2 Quarterfinals before losing to Denison. More Wildcat news at www.myssnews.com

The scrimmage will be 10 plays for each offense, then a half of live football.

The Tigers play at Kaufman on 27th in their first game.

Today is my birthday. I quit counting 5 years ago when I turned 29. :-)

Wilted

There was a large fire last night at Flexible Foam in Terrell. Its not the first time that plant has caught on fire.

I'll have a small preview of Fridays football scrimmage between Terrell and Sulphur Springs tomorrow morning.

One day till my B-Day.

Where theres smoke...

A fire this evening in the industrial park at the Terrell airport. I think this is Flexibe Foam. The same building burned in 2004.

Terrell, Texas, Monday Morning Mashup

Yesterday was the last day of the season for Ham Orchards. I'm not really an ice cream cone person, but I love their peach ice cream cones.

Friday I was screened for diabetes. I posted a picture and story about it Saturday. It was brought to my attention on Facebook that I never gave the address of the health fair. I'll work on putting addresses in my posts.

I get asked all of the time if I work for the Terrell Tribune, the answer is no.

This Friday at the First Baptist Church Recreational Outreach Center, 500 N. Catherine, is the Taste of Terrell. For $10 a plate you can sample some of the best food Terrell has to offer.

Have you become a fan of Terrell Daily Photo on Facebook? Click the link to the right, then hit the 'like' button.

The 10 day weather forecast for Terrell, Texas is for temperatures at or above 100 degrees every day. For the month of August, Terrell has had 13 days over 100.

I got screened

Friday afternoon almost 40 Terrell area residents took advantage of the Health Mart Healthy Living Tour and got screened for diabetes. In addition to the diabetes screening, they also provided blood pressure, cholesterol and blood glucose testing.

Since I am the type of person who only goes to the doctor when I get hurt or have a pain, this was perfect for me. The tests only take about 5 minutes, and thankfully mine came back fine.

There are over 2800 Health Mart Pharmacies across the country, only 120 were selected to get a visit by the Healthy Living Tour. The Terrell Health Mart pharmacists greeted people with snow cones and snacks and were available to answer any questions. The Terrell Health Mart is located at 642 N Rockwall St. in Terrell.

The tour continues next weekend at the North Texas State Fair in Denton. Check the tour schedule to see when they stop in your area.

Skywatch Friday

This was Wednesday night as the sun was setting. More Skywatch Friday sites are here.

Happy Friday!

Visit Health Mart between 3pm-6pm today for the Healthy Living health screening.

I found the best way to fall asleep. Watch Cowboys preseason football.

Pizza Pizza

What do you do when you are knocked down by a killer migraine and its a week till payday? Get Pizza Pizza.

We found this baby squirrel outside work Tuesday. Its hard to see it, but this thing was maybe 5 inches long. This was taken with the camera in my new phone.

I thought the Rangers were going to pull out a win last night, almost. It sounds like there were way too many Yankees fans in the ballpark last night. We have to put up with Red Wings fans at hockey games, Steelers fans at football games and I guess Yankees fans at ball games.

Maybe I need to go BTS. I got a flyer in the mail for a BTS sale. It took me 10 minuets to figure out what BTS stood for.

The Cowboys are on channel 11 tonight, regular programming (Big Brother) is on channel 21. I have to remember to make sure the DVR is set.

Health Mart Healthy Living Tour

Terrell families have an opportunity to receive a free health screening as part of a nationwide diabetes screening tour.

The Health Mart Healthy Living tour will be at Health Mart Pharmacy in Terrell on Friday, August 13th from 3pm-6pm.

The Health Mart Healthy Living Tour aims to raise awareness of the growing diabetes epidemic, identify people at risk and encourage people with diabetes to manage their condition with the help of their pharmacist.

You've Been Flocked!

The Terrell Citizens Police Academy Alumni have been busy with a fundraiser. For a donation of $20 they will place a flock of plastic pink flamingos on the lawn of a victim of your choosing for 48 hours.

This house was recently flocked.

Corporal Jackson with the Terrell Police Department let me know that they are in the planning stages for another Academy class, hopefully in the fall.

From the Alumni website:
The Citizen's Police Academy provides a look into the operations of the Terrell Police Department. Its purpose is to provide information to citizens about law enforcement so that they may make informed judgments about the men and women that serve them while these same men and women learn what the citizens anticipate as their role in the community.

Through the sharing of information, citizens learn about law enforcement while law enforcement learns from the citizens. It basically a win-win situation, everyone, both citizens and law enforcement, learns more about each other. Together, they form a team where they both serve their community.

If you live in Terrell and see the class being offered, sign up, get involved.

Terrell, Texas Monday Morning Mashup

Practice begins this morning for the football Tigers. They scrimmage against Sulphur Springs on the 20th and open the season on the 27th at Kaufman. The complete schedule is posted to the right.

Check out my Facebook page for 2009 Tigers pictures and 7 on 7 from this year. The picture above is from this years Spring scrimmage.

After watching the local sports coverage of the Cowboys preseason camp for what seems like a year, the Boys finally got to hit someone other than a teammate last night. They have a quick turn around this week, playing Oakland Thursday night.

I didn't realize that Saturdays McKinney Historical Run 5K that Brian and I ran in was started 5 years ago by the son of McKinney, Texas Daily Photo. The search is on for the next race.

I hope that the Fountain 5K, held during the Jubilee, is as large and successful as the McKinney race is when it reaches its 5th year.

I ran 10.5 miles last week. My goal this week is 10.6 miles.

Don't forget, Ham Orchards closes for the season on August 15th.

One word to describe August, HOT. So far this year we have had 9 days over 100, already matching last years total. The most in the last 5 years was 2006 when we had 19 days over 100. Looking at the 10 day forecast, we should get close to that number.

Sunday, August 8, 2010

McKinney Historical Run

Here is the winner of the McKinney Historical 5K run. Runimal Kiplimochemirmir ran the course in 15:57. Second place was only 5 seconds behind. I was right behind both of them. I finished in 34:59, good for 366th place.

Grooming issues

Summer months must be brutal on the ball field.

Thankfully it has been getting a little TLC.

Texas vs. Notre Dame? That would be a hot ticket, even if its not until 2015.

I don't care who just got married, who just broke up or who has a kid on the way.

I do care about pitching match-ups though. :-)

Nolan Ryan came out the winner in the battle for the Rangers. Of course, having to shell out $593 million probably makes the creditors of Tom Hicks the winners.

Mark Cuban offered congrats to Chuck and Nolan through his twitter page.

I am always looking for Terrell related items to share. Make sure you check out the links to the right for the Fly-in and Outdoor expo. I have one more I will be adding in the next day or so.
