Jordan's Journey

This past Saturday morning, the threat of rain couldn't keep the team of Jordan's Journey from taking part in the Walk to Cure Diabetes at Victory Park in Dallas.  Jordan is Jordan Powell, a Sophomore at Terrell High School.  He was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes in April 2011.   Read Jordan's story about living with diabetes and his daily activities here. You can still donate to Jordan's Journey on his page.

Jordan's Journey is made up of classmates, friends, family and members of the Terrell LEO club, which Jordan is a member of.  Jordan is also a pretty good baseball player, making varsity last year as a Freshman.

Slow start again

Terrell got behind 24-0 in the first quarter last night against North Forney and could never catch up.  They lost the game 27-12.

Cowboys autographed jersey

The Texas Lottery has a game where if you lose, you can enter the serial number from the ticket online for a second chance drawing.  Losing is what I do best, so I entered some of mine.

Today after I got back from taking a stress test, I had a notice from UPS that they tried to deliver a package from TX Lottery.  I looked online and I won one of the second chance prizes.

Below is my prize.  An autographed Demarcus Ware jersey.

One of my favorites

One of the fun parts of the Fly-In is how close everyone can get to the aircraft.  This is one of my favorite pictures from Saturday.

Fly-In

Yesterday was the annual Flights of our Fathers Fly-In at the Terrell Municipal Airport.  The crowds were heavy, and there were planes a plenty.  The crowd favorite was this C-47 that was giving rides.

View from the front porch

This is my view this morning.  You really can't see it, but it's been raining for a few hours.  We sure need it.

Throw Back Thursday

This was originally posted on September 18, 2007. They finished out the outside of the building, but never finished the inside.  The last I heard, the city couldn't locate the owner.  So it sits empty.

Below is what it looked like in 2010 and pretty much looks the same today.

Overpass, overdue

The hwy 34 overpass was supposed to be completed this past June.  It looks like it's finally getting close.  I never noticed the no walking sign.  Good thing, I was running.

Photoshopped

If this was a job and not a hobby I would probably be fired for photoshopping a ball into the glove.

Texas A&M Commerce upsets Delta State

Delta State came into their game with the Lions from TAMC ranked 25th. The will probably lose that ranking after losing to the Lions 42-35 last night at AT&T Stadium in Arlington. Terrell High School alumnus Joel Wrel, #12 is a senior for TAMC.

Baseball weather

One of the requirements for baseball or softball is it must rain on game day.  Yesterday it started to rain around 5.  We got rain, wind and a little hail. By 7:15 the rain had passed, the sky was clear, the field was playable and it was game time.  The rainbow over right field was a bonus.

Hummingbirds

There are at least a half dozen hummingbirds in the backyard.  First time I have seen them in Texas.

Jordan's Journey

Jordan is a little boy who has Cystinosis, a terrible disease that effects his kidneys and other organs.  There was a softball tournament yesterday at Ben Gill Park to help raise funds for Doctor bills and other expenses.  Jordan was out at the fields early in the day. I was only able to get out there for an hour or so and missed him, but it seemed like everyone was having a good time.

For one night the center of the DSO world was in Terrell, TX.....

....and we loved it.

The 2013-2014 E! Terrell Entertainment Series kicked off last night with a performance by the world renowned Dallas Symphony Orchestra.  It was the first time the entire orchestra performed at the Performing Arts Center in Terrell and they sounded great!  They played a total of ten numbers starting with The Barber of Seville Overture and ending over an hour and a half later with Radetzky March. In between, the men dressed in black suits with black bow ties and the ladies dressed in all black, played favorites Pomp and Circumstance No.1, American Salute, and two different Hoe Down numbers, one from Copland and one from Hayman. They also threw in the Raiders of the Lost Ark Theme among a few others. The conductor was Alasdair Neale and Angela Fuller Heyde was a solo violinist on Ravel's Tzigane.  I had goosebumps from the first note till the end.

Running again

I haven't been running much since I've been having problems with my knee.  The orthopedic specialist has me wearing a light brace on it whenever I am not in bed.  He doesn't think I have a torn meniscus, maybe arthritis or something floating around.  I'm on celebrex, but I dont think its working.  My knee is as painful today as it was when I first made the doctor appointment.  I have a follow up in late October to see where its at, hopefully, not in as much pain.  In the mean time, he said I could run, so I ran a 5K yesterday.  My time wasn't great. I went to about the turn around and my knee started acting up.  I finished, but very slowly.

Rain lurks in the distance

This was at Winfrey Point in Dallas this morning before the start of a 5K race.
