Christmas vacation

Today begins our Christmas break at work.  I'm off till next Tuesday.

Bacon

Today is our Christmas spread at work.  I always hate'em.  I never know what to bring.  I usually try to to sign up for soda or chips.  I've tried to get them to agree that I'll bring sporks, napkins and coffee, (we get that free in the break room).

Last spread I brought in peppers with cheese and bacon, so thats what I ended up fixing last night.  I also ate more than I should have after they were done.

Oh so close

The Lady Tigers basketball team traveled to Mesquite to take on district rivals West Mesquite.  The ladies played their hearts out but came up just short losing 59-57.  The Tigers were down early but fought back and held a lead until West Mesquite hit a pair of free throws to give the Wranglers a 58-57 lead with 10.2 seconds remaining in the game.  The Tigers were unable to get a shot off on the next possession and the Wranglers added one more free throw for the final score. The final score wasn't what the Tigers wanted, but if they keep playing like they did last night there will be many more wins.

Terrell, Texas Monday Morning Mashup

Have you finished your Christmas shopping?   Less than a week to go.  I found a good sale in Canton, but they didn't have what I was looking for.

I ran in the Santa Claws 5K Saturday and got a medal for coming in 1st in my age group.  It could also be said that I finished 2nd to last in my age group.  It was my fastest so far, 33:34.

The Terrell Lady Tigers travel to West Mesquite tonight for a district game that was initially scheduled for tomorrow.

I added a small album from the Forney vs. Terrell boys basketball game to the Terrell Daily Photo Facebook page.  Check out the photos and hit the like button while on the page.

75 degrees today, pushing 80 tomorrow.

Work to do

Terrell hosted the Jackrabbits from Forney last night and came out on the short end of a 59-57 score.  Forney had a 6-0 lead before Terrell got on the scoreboard.  The Tigers were down 19-9 with 7:11 left in the half, but a  12-2 run brought the Tigers even at 21 and they led 28-25 at the half.  The lead changed hands a few times in the second half with the Tigers biggest lead of 6 points, 54-48 with just over 4:30 left in the game.  The Tigers though were unable to hold the lead.   The Jackrabbits had a 57-54 lead when Jhrerrod Stiggers hit a 3 pointer to tie the game with 50 seconds remaining.  The Jackrabbits held on the to ball the final 50 seconds and Grant Shaw, who finished with 19 points, hit an easy shot with 2.2 seconds left to give the Forney Jackrabbits a 59-57 win.  The boys district mark is 0-2.

The Lady Tigers fared better in Forney against the Lady Jackrabbits.  They final score was 54-42.  The win evens the district record for the ladies at 2-2.

Both teams face Corsicana on Friday night.  The girls are at home, while the boys travel to Corsicana.

Practical barn

Yesterday I had to show up to the Kaufman County Courthouse for jury duty.  If you saw my post yesterday afternoon, you know I didn't get picked.  Everyone hates when they get the jury duty notice.  Nobody wants to miss work and sit through what could be days in a boring courtroom.   I am glad I didn't get picked, but sitting there when they called out the names of those selected made me feel like I was in grade school and they were selecting sides for kickball.   I was thinking to myself CALL MY NAME, CALL MY NAME, I don't want to be left out!   When they finished calling the jurors and I didn't hear my name, I breathed a sigh of relief and left the courtroom.  I didn't want to be on no stinkin jury. Lets hope its another 10 years before I get called again.

Trica has changed the name of her barn series from old barns to barn charm.  Not sure this has much charm, but its practical.   Visit her site for other barns with charm.

Lady Tigers will battle the Lady Jackrabbits in Forney tonight.  Varsity tip off is 7:30.  Varsity boys host Forney at the TISD Athletic Complex, tip off is 8PM.

No jury duty

Not GUILTY sure GUILTY why GUILTY but GUILTY I GUILTY didn't GUILTY get GUILTY selected.  While at the courthouse I got to watch a protest for something or other.

Terrell, Texas Monday Morning Mashup

This limo was in the Terrell Christmas Parade Saturday.  It was so long it took 3 frames.   I have posted to the Facebook page all of my pictures from the Parade.  View all of the albums and dont forget to 'like' the page.  Brian posted a nice shot from the parade on his site, its one of my favorites.

Today could end up being a long day.  I have to show up for jury duty this morning.

The varsity boys basketball team finished 4th in the Herman Furlough Jr basketball tournament that was held in Terrell. The Girls dropped a home game Friday night to Red Oak.  Both teams are back in action Tuesday night.  The boys host Forney, while the girls travel to Forney.

Sometimes a steady hand is needed

This is Ben Gill Park last night.  You can see by the burry picture that I didn't have my tripod with me.  I usually try to set the camera on a bench or table to steady it, but last night I was out of luck.  You can also see how unsteady my hand it by the airplane lights on the right side of the picture.

The Herman Furlough Jr basketball tournament starts today.  First game is 2:30 at the TISD Complex.  Check yesterdays post for the complete bracket.

Abandoned Barn

This barn was a little scary.  It was starting to get dark and there were a lot of trees, brush and noises.  I got out, got a picture or two and got back in the car.

Visit Bluff Area Daily for more barns.

I think I finally have kicked the cold that has been doggin me since Thanksgiving.  I was able to get out and run a little last night.  The next race is the 18th in Canton, Tx on the First Monday grounds.

Pictures from Saturdays football game have been added to Facebook and ihigh.com.  If you are a coach, register on ihigh and start sharing content for your sport.

Terrell, Texas Monday Morning Mashup

Todays picture is how I normally feel on Monday morning.  This guy is one of the Terrell coaches.  I added 77 photos to the Facebook page from Saturday mornings football game.

College football bowl games have been announced.  Did your team make it to a bowl?  Are you happy with the selections?  TCU gets Wisconsin in the Rose Bowl.  Not a bad consolation for missing out on the title game.   Oklahoma wins the Big 12 Championship game and will play in the Fiesta Bowl against a 4 loss Connecticut team.  I bet thats a good game.....

There are a few non BSC bowls that look like they could be good.  I like these games:
Cotton- Texas A&M vs. LSU
Capital One- Michigan State vs Alabama

The Terrell boys varsity basketball team made it to the championship game of the Royse City Tournament Saturday night.  In the final game, Terrell won the opening tip but had the ball stolen by Red Oak who scored an uncontested lay-up.  The Tigers played catch up the remainder of the night.  They ended up losing the game 53-47.  The guys had a great weekend and their overall record is 5-2.  Terrell hosts their own tournament beginning Thursday.  It would be nice to see support from the community for the tournament.

The Lady Tigers are at home Tuesday night against North Garland in a non district game.  The Lady Tigers have played hard for first year coach Mike Halac and will bring a 5-3 record into the game.

The Social Science Club Christmas tour of homes was held Saturday. I don't know how many tickets were sold, but I would guess it was a success. Each house was decorated for Christmas and each had something unique about it.

A Christmas Carol-Opening night

Thursday night was opening night of the Vagabond Players production of Charles Dickens "A Christmas Carol".  The cast did an awesome job, they are all great actors.  Jeff Vaughan played Charles Dickens/Ebenezer Scrooge.  He was perfect for the part.  I was told during the reception that all of the performances are sold out.

The Black Box Theater is located in the back of Books and Crannies in the historic Iris Theater building. Books and Crannies is Kaufman County's oldest and largest bookstore with over 100,000 used books in stock.

Varsity Cheerleaders

The Tigers varsity cheerleaders entertain the crowd at the basketball game Tuesday night.

Tuesday night the Lady Tigers basketball squad was in action at Waxahachie.  They won the game 43-42.  Senior Tonisha Dean hit a game winning lay up off an inbound pass with 2.8 seconds left.

Last months run total was 37.8 miles.

The Amazing Race is having a Casting Call at Choctaw Casino on December 15th. Sounds like a road trip.
