The 5K runners lined up for the start of the Too Hot To Handle race yesterday morning. The weather was unseasonably nice. Low 70s, overcast, with a few sprinkles. Over 2500 runners ran in the 5K and 15K races. Noticed the guy in the St. Louis jersey, Cardinals fans are everywhere!

Winfrey Point view of Dallas
Saturday morning was the Dallas Running Clubs Independence Day 5K/10K with the start and finish at Winfrey Point. This is the view of downtown Dallas from the top of the hill taken with my iPhone.
July 14th is the 5K/15K Too Hot to Handle at Norbuck Park, and ran along White Rock Lake. I've signed up for the 15K.

Terrell, Texas Monday Morning Mashup
I finished a 10K race yesterday. My 3rd 10K, the 2nd being timed. I did a run/walk routine and finished 15th in my age group.........out of 15. There were 573 10K finishers, and 1375 half marathon finishers. I hate crowds, but I love the rush of starting a race in a huge group.
Pictures have been posted to Facebook from the Tigers Freshman and Varsity scrimmages against Arlington Sam Houston. Check them out and 'like' the page or your favorite shots.
The Tigers next scrimmage is this Friday at home against Sulphur Springs. The opener is August 26th at home against Kaufman.
Sunday, August 21st is the Spring/Fall Classic Sprint Triathlon at Lake Tawakoni. I'm not participating, but I will be out there taking pictures. You still have time to register.
Matt Rich has made the Air Force Academy Track and Field team.
Before any race you have to make sure your are ready.
This is the start of the half marathon, they started 10 minutes before the 10K.

Riverwalk at night
No trip to San Antonio would be complete without a trip to the Riverwalk.
The reason for the quick trip to SA was the Alamo Beer Challenge Race #1. It was a 5K & 10K race Friday night. Brian and I ran the 5K race. It was a fun course through a park. I heard there were over 800 runners registered (and one person who was in front of me who said he wasnt paying, thanks bud.) for both races. Times were slow, but the course was only about 12' wide. Still fun though. This is the first of four races that are suppose to help you train for the Rock and Roll Marathon in San Antonio held in November. I dont think I will be doing the RnR. Brian has signed up for the half marathon. Race # 2 is on August 13th. That race will be 8K & 15K. Results and pictures from race #1 are at www.iaapweb.com.

The results are in
Saturday was the 6th Annual Pioneer Days 5K in Eustace, TX. This was the second year to run this race. Eustace is a small town but they have a nice race. This year they had 115 runners, the second most since they started the race. It would be nice to get a crowd that size in Terrell next year. My time was just off my best. I finished in 33:26, my best time is 33:23 at the Mardi Gras run in Richardson earlier this year. I ended up beating Brian by about 20 seconds.
Here is a runner checking for his name. I had to wait until the second board was put up, I finished 64th overall.

10 2 4K
Yesterday was the 120th birthday for Dublin Dr. Pepper. The town of Dublin was renamed to Dr. Pepper, TX for the week leading up to yesterday. Part of the fun were races of 10 2 & 4K. I picked the 4K to run. Including the 2K they had over 600 registered runners. A huge number for a small town.

Lions Dash 5K
Yesterday morning was a 5K race in Rockwall. I haven't been feeling well, so I sat out the race. It did give me the chance to take a few pictures. It was the inaugural run that benefits the Providence Academy, a non-profit Christian school in Rockwall.

Some make it look easy
Some people make running a 5k look effortless.
I missed this last month, former Terrell Tiger and University of North Texas defensive lineman Brandon Kennedy was named to the Sun Belt Conferences All Decade Team. He was also named Tenth Anniversary Most Outstanding Defensive Player.
Red Oak Hawks ladies basketball lost to Waxahachie last night. Terrell is only 1 1/2 games behind RO for the final playoff spot. They meet Friday night in Red Oak.
The best place for local news and sports is in local papers. Yesterday was the inauguration of Rick Perry to another term as Texas Governor. The food was catered by Eddie Dean. Eddie Deans facility is located in Terrell. I saw a lot of stories online yesterday about Eddie Dean catering the event. The only story I found that mentioned Terrell or with original content was in the Terrell Tribune.

I am Superman
Saturdays race in Rockwall was called I am Superman 5k. Runners were encouraged to dress up as their favorite superhero. You can see the Leonardo, Michelangelo, Donatello, and Raphael behind Brian in the picture below. They posted the race results yesterday afternoon.
Somehow the race organizers mixed up mine and Brians name. The results show me finishing in 32:32 and Brian finishing in 38:38. If you don't say anything I won't either.

Upcoming runs
The picture today didn't turn out quite the way I wanted.
Brian and I have our next two races planned. The 19th we will be running in the Pioneer Day 5K race in Eustace, TX. Looking at the results from the last few years, I may only finish ahead of the age 60+ runners......maybe.
On July 18th it will be the larger Too Hot to Handle at Norbuck Park, White Rock Lake. We took pictures at the Too Cold to Hold in January, so this one should be fun.
If you are looking for pictures from the Caveman Crawl in Bridgeport, TX check out the Facebook page. I got shots of the first run only. Email your bib number and I will see if I have any of you. Feel free to tag any of the shots on Facebook. Jerry Glover Photography will have their pictures from the Crawl online at 9PM tonight. They should have a searchable database and professional pictures available for purchase.

Ennis Polka Fest winner
Shelley Smith from Terrell holds her trophy for 1st place in her age group from the Polka Fest 10K Run held in Ennis, TX on Saturday. Ms. Smith is not only an avid runner, she also is an accomplished artist. You can find her artwork at www.shellykolmansmith.com.
Ms. Smith recognized me at the awards ceremony. It helped I had a shirt that said Terrell Daily Photo on it. If you see me out with my camera, come up and say hi.

Brian and I traveled down to Ennis Saturday morning for the Polka Fest Run 5K/10K. I ran the 5K, Brian ran the 10K. My time in the 5K was the best I have done so far. I ran in 34:29. Brian ran his 10K in 1:10.

Yard sale
Lots of yard sales this time of year. This is from our sale last weekend. All of these clothes were nicely folded and sorted when the sale started.

I enjoyed watching the finale of American Idol last night. Not really because of who won, but because of the special guests. Performing on the show was Chicago, Bee Gees, Hall and Oates, Joe Cocker, Alanis Morissette, Bret Michaels and Janet Jackson. Alice Cooper I could live without.
My next 5K is this Saturday in Ennis. Its the Polka Fest Run, held during the National Polka Fest.
We got a nice thunder shower last night, much needed rain.
I am not cool with this.
June 3rd will mark 3 years of Terrell Daily Photo. I am thinking about changing out the banner photos. What do you think?

Statesman Capitol 10K wrap up
Here are the last few pictures I'll put up here from the Austin Statesman Capitol 10K. I added a set to the Facebook page.

I ran untimed because I knew I would not run the entire race and I wanted to take pictures along the way. The off and on mist kept the Nikon in the case for most of race.

This Saturday is the Fountain 5K in Terrell as part of the Terrell Heritage Jubilee. That will be with no camera. I hope to beat my time from Kaufman of 38:47.

Monday Morning Mashup
Yesterday was the Capitol 10K in Austin, Texas. I ran very little and walked a lot. The weather was overcast with a light mist, so taking pictures was hit and miss. I did get some shots I like that I will post over the next few days. The first picture today is the starting line. I was running untimed so I started in the back half. The feeling when starting the race was amazing. I lived in Austin in the 80s and again in the 90s and never imagined that I would be running down Congress Ave. in 2010. The second picture was after I stopped running and started taking pictures with the Nikon. Its the Texas Capitol building.

Monday Morning Mashup
I finished my second 5K Saturday morning. It was the Spring into Action 5K Fun Run and Walk benefiting the Women and Infants department at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Kaufman, TX. They announced on site that they had over 250 registered runners. My goal going into the race was to break 40 minutes, I finished in 38:47. Next up is the Capitol 10K in Austin on April 11th. I have no dreams of running that course. I plan on walking, jogging, taking pictures and having fun along the way.
The Fountain 5K and Walk is on April 17th, during the Terrell Heritage Jubilee. The race will benefit Volunteer Services Council of Terrell State Hospital.
A full schedule of events for the Jubilee can be found here.
The Tigers baseball team will travel to Forney Tuesday night for a district game against the Jackrabbits. The Tigers will then host Lancaster Tigers Thursday night. The team has started slow in district play, but starting with the game against Lancaster, Terrell will have 5 of the final 7 district games at home. Hopefully, the home field will give them the boost needed to make the playoffs.
I added a couple of photo sets to the Facebook page. Follow the link on the right to check out photos from Dallas Blooms, Tiger baseball and the 5K Run in Kaufman.
There is a story on the Terrell Tribunes site that has generated quite a few negative comments about growth, safety and overall quality of life in Terrell. I would like to direct the anonymous commenter's to the City of Terrell's website where they can apply for the Terrell Citizens University.
Have a great Monday morning!
