Winfrey Point saved
This is another shot of the flowers at Winfrey Point, taken a few weeks ago. This area was threatened with being turned into a parking garage last year. This month an agreement was reached to put the parking garage in a spot currently occupied by a surface parking lot.

I see you up there
Caught these kids being somewhere I'm sure they were not supposed to be, at the top of a fire escape. I am sure glad there weren't as many cameras around when I was a kid.

Summer ball
I'm not used to taking baseball pictures when one of the teams isn't wearing red. But last night it was take pictures of the teams playing, or not take pictures at all. The Terrell summer team played an early game and a late game. I missed all of the first and it was to dark for their second game.

Barn Charm
It's been a while since I posted a 'barn charm' picture. I like this pair of old barns. I think they are still in use.

Movie house memories
Saturday morning I happened to be traveling down the south side alley and noticed new art work going up. Seven old movie poster type murals are being painted on the back of Books and Crannies. Books and Crannies is a great new and used book store in Terrell on Moore Ave. The book store is in the old Iris theater building. I'm sure all of these movies at one time played on their screen.
The movie at the top center, The Lady, with Norma Talmadge was the first movie that played in the Iris when it opened on September 1, 1925. Tickets cost .25 cents each. The bookstores owners, Ron and Gayle Harris, restored the Iris sign on the front of the building and it was lit up on September 1, 2008.
Currently there is a small theater in he back of the bookstore that houses live plays and old movies.
I'm going to have to drive down the alley again this week and see if they finished up.

Sunday morning shower
We got a nice shower yesterday morning. The weatherperson said we better enjoy it, it may be a while before we get any more. After the rain had stopped the remaining clouds looked neat.
Today is the Terrell Athletic Booster Club annual golf tournament. I'll be out there with my camera. It will be hot, but should be fun. In addition to the tourney, they are going to have a golf ball drop. They put numbered golf balls in a bucket and drop them from a helicopter. Whoever holds the number of the ball that lands closest to the hole or in the hold wins. The prize is at least $1000. A second prize will be awarded to the ball that lands farthest from the hole. That prize is $500.

Amber Carrington makes a hometown visit
Amber Carrington, a contestant on the NBC singing show The Voice made it to the top 5 this week and got to make the trip back to Rockwall for a hometown visit. Amber made her entrance on the Seawolf from Sail with Scott. She was presented a key to Rockwall and sang two songs. After thanking everyone for coming out and encouraging them to keep voting, she signed autographs and finally made her way out again on the Seawolf.
Amber had a lot of fans there, this was the largest crowd for the Concert by the Lake that I've seen. Her hometown visit should be on the Monday show.

National Running Day
Today is National Running Day. I think I can find a picture of runners.
Here is a group of runners getting ready to run the Bloomin' 4-Mile run last Saturday at White Rock Lake. I am in my normal spot.....near the back.

Terrell and British friendship
A new painting has gone up in Terrell. It is a depiction of a map hanging on the wall at the No. 1 British Flying Training School.
During WWII, British cadets trained in Terrell. To mimic Britain and Europe an overlay was placed over a map of Texas and Oklahoma. On the overlay, Terrell served as London.
A mural was placed on a building last year in Terrell, this painting is on the same building.

End of year softball game
Last night was the Kennedy Elementary school teachers vs parents softball game. The parents won the game, but I think the real winners were the kids.
