Ennis Polka Fest winner
Shelley Smith from Terrell holds her trophy for 1st place in her age group from the Polka Fest 10K Run held in Ennis, TX on Saturday. Ms. Smith is not only an avid runner, she also is an accomplished artist. You can find her artwork at www.shellykolmansmith.com.
Ms. Smith recognized me at the awards ceremony. It helped I had a shirt that said Terrell Daily Photo on it. If you see me out with my camera, come up and say hi.
Brian and I traveled down to Ennis Saturday morning for the Polka Fest Run 5K/10K. I ran the 5K, Brian ran the 10K. My time in the 5K was the best I have done so far. I ran in 34:29. Brian ran his 10K in 1:10.

Terrell Tigers Spring Football
The Tigers held their Spring football game Friday in the heat. The star for the white team was QB Shea South. He rushed for 4 first half touchdowns. The star for the red team was Jherrod Stiggers who caught 2 touchdown passes for the only red scores. The white squad won 42-14. More pictures are up at the Terrell Daily Photo Facebook page.

Skywatch Friday-Point and shoot problems
I think my Samsung point and shoot has bit the dust. The lens will not open all of the way leaving all of the shots out of focus. I do kinda like how this one turned out though.
Better Skywatch Friday shots can be found here.
The Terrell Tigers football team holds their annual Spring scrimmage tonight. It's just enough to whet your appetite for the Fall season. Look for photos Saturday morning.
Rockwall Heath won the opening game of their playoff series against Cleburne 4-1.

Yard sale
Lots of yard sales this time of year. This is from our sale last weekend. All of these clothes were nicely folded and sorted when the sale started.
I enjoyed watching the finale of American Idol last night. Not really because of who won, but because of the special guests. Performing on the show was Chicago, Bee Gees, Hall and Oates, Joe Cocker, Alanis Morissette, Bret Michaels and Janet Jackson. Alice Cooper I could live without.
My next 5K is this Saturday in Ennis. Its the Polka Fest Run, held during the National Polka Fest.
We got a nice thunder shower last night, much needed rain.
I am not cool with this.
June 3rd will mark 3 years of Terrell Daily Photo. I am thinking about changing out the banner photos. What do you think?

The ride continues
The Run for the Wall riders left Texas Sunday afternoon heading into Louisiana. I posted a few more pictures on the Terrell Daily Photo Facebook page.

Monday Morning Mashup
A quick trip to Shreveport allowed us to watch the Run for the Wall riders pass just East of Tyler yesterday near mile marker 576. In 2008 & 2009 I was at the refueling stop in Terrell. It was neat to watch all of the riders pass under the bridge we were on, it gave me goose bumps. Here is one riders thoughts on the ride so far.
Cilla was at Brookshires in Terrell with Japp to watch the riders. Visit her new business page.
I watched the series finale of LOST last night. I think I need to watch it again.
Rockwall Heath 37-0 faces Cleburne in the next round of the HS baseball playoffs. It's a best of 3. Games 1 & 2 are in Cleburne, somehow that doesnt seem fair. UIL needs to seriously look at how playoff games are scheduled. The Hawks were on WFAA HS Gametime last night after LOST.
Good thing the Byron Nelson golf tournament had a 16 year old kid playing yesterday. What has happened to that event? It used to be one of the tournaments of the year, now, there are very few of the top golfers playing there.
This is an easy one......YES.

A day early
Skywatch isn't until Friday, but I got this one last night and wanted to get it posted. This was as the sun was setting and storm clouds were starting to roll in. Thankfully, we didn't get any rain, just the clouds. We may get some rain today though.

Train stations
I have mentioned the Facebook group You know You're From Terrell When........before. Its a wonderful page with lots of memories from people that grew up in Terrell, Texas. One of the discussions is about old railroad stations. I know the first picture is the old freight depot that ran East/West. Is the second photo an old freight depot also that ran North/South? Maybe someone from the group can help me out.
I know the old passenger station was demolished some time ago.

Just like candy
Tonight is Lost, Glee, American Idol
I think its about time to change up the banner picture. Maybe I will change out the Terrell Daily Photo Facebook profile picture also.
Last regular episode of Lost tonight. There has been a lot of talk about the series finale on Sunday night. A coworker said she's totally confused and expects it to end with Bobby Ewing in the shower.

Monday Morning Mashup
I didn't make it out to Ham's Orchard, so while watching the finale of Survivor I enjoyed a strawberry shortcake.
Brian has a few shots up from Friday nights Relay for Life held at Furlough Middle School in Terrell, TX. I took some shots, most did not turn out the way I wanted. I had a DUH moment, if you hold the camera on its side and don't move your hand, you end up blocking half of the flash, like my shot at the end of today's post.
Run for the Wall takes off Wednesday the 19th from Rancho Cucamonga, CA. The Southern Route riders will make their annual fuel stop in Terrell on Sunday the 23rd at approx 9:45AM. Its awesome to see all of the motorcycles pulling into town, come out to the Brookshire's parking lot and show your support for their mission, or line the roads or overpasses as they pass through.
There is another ride taking place on July 3, 2010. Its the Allied Memorial Remembrance Ride. Riders will start in different parts of the DFW area and ride to Oakland Memorial Park Cemetery in Terrell. That is the final resting place for British cadets and pilots who were killed while training at No 1. BFTS in Terrell during WWII.
Mark you calendar for September 17-19 2010. That's the weekend of No 1 BFTS Hanger Dance & Fly-In.
Books and Crannies already has their next event scheduled. Check their Facebook page for details. I added photos from the book signing to my Facebook page. Visit my page and make sure you hit the 'like' button.

Small town
On Saturday nights they roll up the streets early in Terrell. This is Moore Ave. last Saturday just before 8PM. The building on the right has been empty for probably over 4 years. Anyone have any idea why they quit renovating it?

Monday Morning Mashup
Baseball season came to an end for the Tigers Saturday. It was a fun to be able to watch and take pictures at the games. Thank you Coach Casey Rush, players and parents for a fun year. I added photo albums to the Facebook page from Friday and Saturdays games.
Anyone can also add photos to the Terrell Daily Photo Facebook page. If you have something you want to share post it there.
The Tigers football team is in the middle of Spring practice. They close out the practices with a Spring game on May 28th.
This picture is the view from my seat at the Dallas Symphony Orchestra last Thursday night courtesy of the DSO. I follow the Dallas Symphony on Twitter. They had a contest for free tickets and I won. The Symphony sounded great as usual.
Hal Richards was re-elected Mayor of Terrell on Saturday. He ran away from his challenger. I'm I the only person who thought the race was going to be close?
Relay for Life is Friday the 14th. Click the banner to the right for info.
I hope all of the Moms had a wonderful Mothers day.

District 15-4A out of playoffs
Not only did the Tigers season end yesterday but so did the remaining teams from District 15-4A. Forney was out Friday night after getting swept by Ennis. Red Oak was eliminated by Midlothian and Mesquite Poteet, who was ranked #6 in the state for class 4A, lost a deciding game 3 to Waco Midway.
The Poteet-Midway game followed the Terrell-Cleburne game yesterday at Navarro JC.
Next year 15-A will get tougher as Ennis, Waxahachie and Corsicana join the District and Mabank moves down to 3A.

Game 3 goes to the Yellow Jackets
Terrell wasn't able to keep the momentum from last nights win today in Corsicana. The Tigers took an early 1-0 lead but the Cleburne Yellow Jackets evened the score in the second and took the lead for good in the third. The final was 8-1. Cleburne wins the series and advances to the next round.
I will have a compete recap of the game tomorrow and will post my favorite photos from the season starting Monday.

Terrell 6 Cleburne 5, Game 3 Saturday
Terrell held off a 7th inning rally by Cleburne forcing a deciding game 3 Saturday at Navarro Junior College in Corsicana, TX.
The Yellow Jackets scored first in the top of the 2nd inning by taking advantage of two Tiger errors. The lead only lasted until the bottom of the 3rd when the Tigers struck for 4 runs off Cleburne ace Ty Taylor. Terrell loaded the bases for Barrett Calverley who hit the ball in the gap for a 3 run double. Barrett took third on a wild pitch, Brian Blades who then ran for Barrett scored on a ground out by Cody Weishaar. Terrell was up 4-1.
Cleburne put two runners on in the top of the 4th inning but a nice double play ended the inning. The Yellow Jacket batter hit a drive to right field. Jeremy Ringo made a nice catch, hit the cut off man Victor Andrade who threw to Nathan Adam who was able to get to second base before the base runner could get back. The Jackets were able to add a second run in the top of the 5th to make the score 4-2.
The Tigers scored two more in the bottom of the 6th. Cody Weishaar led off with a single. Alert base running by Cody allowed him to take third on a Chuck Daughterty sacrifice bunt. Heath Hottinger followed the sacrifice with a single to left field scoring Cody. One out later Victor Andrade singled to score Heath. Terrell led after six innings 6-2.
In the 7th inning, Cleburne put their first two runners on base, by error and a hit by pitch. The next batter sacrificed putting the runners on 2nd and 3rd. Ty Taylor then hit a left center field double to score both runs, closing the gap to 6-4. The next batter walked. A wild pitch moved the runners to 2nd and 3rd, with the runner on 2nd the tying run. Following a Yellow Jacket strike out, the next batter singled to left field. The runner on 3rd scored, but the coach held up the trailing runner who was the tying run. The next batter, who would be the go ahead run, hit a pop out to Jeremy Ringo to end the game. Final score 6-5.
Barrett pitched a complete game striking out 6 and keeping the Yellow Jackets confused all game.
Ty Taylor pitched a complete game for the Yellow Jackets striking out 10 Tigers.

Missed shots
There is a saying, in a best of 3 series the first team to win 2 games advances. OK, whatever...
The Tigers begin bi-district playoffs tonight in Cleburne. They are home Friday for game 2. Game time is 7pm, a little earlier than the regular season games. The Tigers finished the second half of district play 4-2 and will be looking to build on that success.
This are a few pictures I have taken over the last few weeks.
