Fighting Tiger Band shines at Regionals

The Terrell Fighting Tiger Band performed last night in Mesquite at the UIL Region 3 marching competition.  They came away with a score of 1 which is great.  They moved on to the Area C competition on October 26 also at Mesquite Memorial Stadium.

Friday night fun

Just as much fun as watching Tiger football games is watching the entertainment provided by the other students. Cheerleaders, Tigerettes and the band are a huge part of Friday night football.

A lot of moving parts

This isn't the best picture in the world but I am posting it because of something I heard someone say. I heard someone ask why there is so much attention paid to high school football. The easy answer is because football is a great sport and prep players in Texas are arguably the best in the country. The long answer, at least for me, is that high school football is not just about the football players and the game. Its about the band, cheerleaders, Tigerettes, body guards and equipment managers. It can also be a source of community pride and school spirit.

This Friday night is Senior night when the Terrell Tigers play host to the Lancaster Tigers. On the line will be a spot in the playoffs. Game time is 7:30. I would guess the pregame honoring the seniors will start around 7.

I ended up 8-5 picking the NFL games for week 8. My season record is 76-40.
My fantasy football team finally won another game, evening my record at 4-4.

Halftime entertainment

A few more band pictures from the football game Friday night.

Tiger marching band

Last night was the first home game for the 2009 Terrell Tigers football team. OV has photos of the game. Here are a few photos of the band at half time.

The Tigers took on Bishop Lynch and moved their record to 4-0 winning 31-21. Check the Tribune tomorrow a the recap of the game. I will go through all of my game pictures and post some on Sunday.

Terrell Heritage Jubilee-THS entertainment

Entertainment during the day Saturday was provided by the bands and choirs of the Terrell Independent School District.

Below is the Terrell High School Stage Band.

Here is a clip of the THS percussion.

Last night the Tigers played Red Oak in a game that was rescheduled from Friday night. The Tigers came out on top 8-2. That should clinch a playoff spot for them.
Dustin Jackson was the winning pitcher and Logan Smith hit a solo HR to the tie the score at 2 in the 6th.

The Tigers baseball team plays Mesquite Poteet tonight at 7:30 at Ben Gill Field. The Pirates are 18-2 and the top ranked 4A team in the Dallas area. Come out and support the Tigers and say hi if you see me.

Irrelevant at Rembrandt's in Dallas, Texas

Last night a group of people from work went down to Rembrandt's Dutch Pub in Dallas to listen to Irrelevant, a great band that plays awesome music that I recognized. The drummer for Irrelevant works for the same company that we all do and the lead guitar player is the husband of someone who works at our company. I have included a clip of them playing Hey Jealousy.

Carrollton RL Turner band

No monthly theme post for today. It should be back October 1st.

For Gustav updates from New Orleans, I recommend this site, Gustav Bloggers. I remember following Katrina from their updates in 2005.

It looks like our area could get the bad weather from Gustav later this week.

Pictured above are the Carrollton RL Turner Lionettes and band. They made the trip out to Terrell for the football game Friday night. They performed at half time for the crowd.

RL Turner band members waiting for halftime to start.

Terrell plays North Lamar, Paris, Texas this Friday. It will be my chance to get photos of the Terrell band.

Honky Tonkin in Terrell

Went out to Club 148 in Terrell last night. I had never been there before, it's a nice place. They had a live band, Randy Allen & One Shot, they were very good.
I tried to keep customers out of the pictures. So there are not many in this picture, but it was crowded and the dance floor always had someone dancing.
The quality is not very good, it was dark and the pictures were taking with my blackberry. I did find out the camera on the phone has a flash.

Below is Karen snapping away pics, having a good time.
