Politicians and parades

Every parade has its politicians, ours was no different. I didn't take many pictures of them, but here are a couple.

Below is Terrell Mayor Hal Richards. I think he represents our city well.

This is Rhonda Hughey, she is running for Kaufman County District Clerk. She had a float in the parade.


Below is Andrew Jordan, he works in the County Public Defenders office and could be Kaufman Countys next District Attorney.

Vietnam Memorial Wall of Texas, Kaufman, Texas

I know I promised band pictures today, but they will have to come later in the week.

The Vietnam Memorial Wall of Texas made its way to Kaufman, Texas on Saturday. The wall has been traveling the country for the last 10 years. It was purchased by Kaufman County with the help of the American Legion, VFW, the Marine Corps League and the citizens of Kaufman County. The 4/5ths scale replica of the Washington D.C. Memorial will go on permanent display at Kaufman County Veterans Memorial. Donations are still needed, visit Kaufman Herald for a complete story and details on how to help.


State Rep. Betty Brown spoke Saturday morning. This is her reflection in the Veterans Memorial at the Kaufman County Veterans Memorial Park. This is not the Vietnam Wall of Texas but one of the many monuments they have at the park.

Last is a clip of Steve Doty, one of the partners who owned the wall reading a poem he wrote.

Meet Victor Morales and Joe Parnell

Last night on my way to the store, I noticed a white pickup and I had to swing back around and see it again. The pickup belongs to Victor Morales. Mr. Morales is the Democratic candidate for the Texas State House District 4. With Mr. Morales was Joe Parnell who is in the Democratic runoff for Kaufman County Commissioner Precinct 3. They were about to go door to door, but they both were nice enough to pause and let me snap their picture.

Mr. Morales is the first grassroots candidate I can remember. He ran for US Senate in 1996 by driving his white truck around the big state of Texas and he still drives that same truck today. Mr. Parnell is a former Kaufman County Court of Law Judge. You can read all about him and his qualifications at his website http://www.joeparnell.org/.

For the runoff election, early voting started yesterday and runs through April 4th, regular voting is on April 8th.

I hope both men do well.
