This is the side view of the Dr. LE Griffith Home. The grounds and basement of this home were open to photo walkers Saturday. Brian has a shot posted from the front.

Terrell got a little more rain yesterday. At the airport they recorded .10 inches, not much but every bit helps. Rain in the forecast again today? Lets hope so.

The next 5k is set. Brian and I will be running in the McKinney Historical Run on August 7th. Last year they had over 500 runners. I hope to finish in the top 300.

I was having so much fun walking around talking to people that I really didn't get many pictures of downtown. Here are a couple of my shots. I still haven't looked at the shots from the LE Griffith home.

2010 Terrell Photo Walk

This morning I participated in the Terrell Photo Walk that was part of Scott Kelbys World Wide Photo Walk. I hope everyone enjoyed had a good time and got a lot of pictures. I caught this shutterbug in the reflection of the American National Bank building.

Out and about

Tonight at 6:30 you can meet the new baseball and girls basketball coach for the Tigers at the TAC.

I have a 5K this Sunday, but my running this week has been a chore. I cant seem to get it together. I hope I can at least finish in under 35 minutes.

Front page news

Brian and I made the front page of the Terrell Tribune for the Photo Walk on July 24th. I hate the picture they have of me. My new Facebook profile picture looks better.

Join us on the 24th to take pictures and explore Terrell. You don't have to stay on Moore Ave.

Explore the historic residential streets, including Griffith Ave. and 1st Street.

Visit Oakland Cemetery to discover over 100 year old graves sites including Robert Terrell, the founder of Terrell, and his wife.

Veterans of the every major war, including the civil war.

The graves of British pilots killed while training in Terrell during WWII.

Frank Reaugh, known as the "Dean of Texas Painting" is also buried in Oakland.

Flights of our Fathers Fly-In photowalk

Bring your family and friends to Terrell Municipal Airport on Oct 3rd at 11AM for a photowalk at the Flights of our Fathers Fly-In. Last years fly-in was fun and the weather was great. Lets hope for a repeat.

This is an opportunity to photograph sights that we don't get to see in Terrell every day. Send an email to photowalk2009@hotmail.com for more details.

On display will be vintage planes, vintage military vehicles and antique cars. The British Flying Training School Museum will be open for tours with a docent or on your own. About noon the Marines will post the colors. The Mayor will issue a proclamation, there will be a brief address, then the Commemorative Air Force fliers, skydivers and other aerobatics will begin. Admission to the fly-in is $5.

Theme day-Night

This theme day should have been easy for me. I love taking night shots. But put on the spot, it's hard to find something I like.

This is the First United Methodist Church in Terrell. I didn't notice when I was taking the picture, but you can see the lights from two jets that were crossing the sky. You may need to click on the picture for a larger view to see them.

11:00PM local time is the deadline for uploading photos to the Worldwide Photo Walk. You can upload two photos, make sure they are your best. These are the shots that I will choose from to represent Terrell in the worldwide contest.

Dr. L.E. Griffth home-Terrell Photowalk

For me one of the highlights of the Photowalk was to be able to walk the grounds of the Dr. L. E. Griffith home on 1st Street. Davis Griffith-Cox welcomed the photographers onto the grounds and answered any questions we had about his family or the home that was built in the mid 1800's.

Faces in the crowd-Terrell Photo Walk 2009

We had 28 shooters turn out for the photo walk in Terrell yesterday. It was fun, and turned out a lot better than I had imagined. We walked down Moore Ave. and then went over to the Griffith homeplace. I met some great photographers and got a lot of tips. I will share my favorite photos over the next few days. I took more of the other shooters than of Terrell.

The Terrell Photo Walk was one of 900 Scott Kelby's second annual worldwide photo walks that took place yesterday.

I would guess we had half people from Terrell and half visitors. We had some kids on the walk working on a Boy Scout badge, which was pretty neat.

These shots were taken on the corner of Moore Ave. and Catherine at the old 1st National Bank building.

I want to thank the City of Terrell Marketing Director Lynnette Nadeau, Susan Roberts, who hosted us Saturday morning and Davis Griffith-Cox, who opened up the grounds to the Griffith family homeplace. I look forward to the 2010 walk.

There seemed to be a lot more traffic in town yesterday. Must have been everyone going out to Ham's Orchard.

I spent time in the Air Force, so when I read this my first thought was, good luck with that.

The break for the Major League Baseball All Star game is here. My Cardinals are in first place. The Rangers, not so much.

Today will be the 6th day in a row of 100 degree temperatures.

Sunday shorts

I found this old railroad crossing sign in Terrell. This reminds me of the kind I used to see in rural areas. Now all of the signs have bells, whistles and gates.

The MLB All-Star game is in St. Louis this week. I grew up just on the Illinois side of the Mississippi river. My Mother used to drive me to the old Busch stadium drop me off before Cardinal games then pick me up after the game. I was probably 14 or 15 years old. I couldn't imagine anyone dropping their kids off now days. I remember camping out to get bleacher tickets for the game that Lou Brock collected his 3000th hit.

Sunday's Terrell Tribune is full of stories of local interest, including a potential challenger to Betty Brown's District 4 State House seat.

Cliff Gibson begins a 7 part series running every Sunday and Wednesday featuring the new football coaching staff at Terrell High School. Be sure to stop by your favorite corner store to pick up your copy of the Tribune.

Alleyway

I have posted pictures of Moore Ave. Here is the alley on the south side of Moore. There are plans to improve the parking along the alley which should help the businesses on Moore.



I can not believe the year is half over. I always say I wish it was Friday or the weekend. Truth is though, I don't want to skip any days. I am getting to old to want to wish days away.

...... but I will settle for a 2 day work week and 5 day weekends.

Shaved Ice

Have you ever had shaved ice? Saturday, we stopped off at Bahama Bucks in Rockwall on the way home from Bass Pro Shops. With the temperature hovering around 100 degrees fahrenheit or 37.7 celsius, shaved ice hits the spot. Its not a sno-cone, it's better than a sno-cone. Saturday I had black cherry. I think on my next stop I will get either apple or lemon flavor, they are suppose to be really tart.

We saw The Hangover over the weekend. Awesome movie, I was laughing so hard my stomach hurt. It's rated R so it might not be for everyone.

Updating yesterdays post, the photo blogger who was arrested in Iran has been released to his family. He has posted a short update on his site.
