Lake Texoma high water

Well, back from my short break. We spent the long weekend up at Lake Texoma. Kim celebrated her 35th birthday. There has been quite a bit of rain on the TX/OK border pushing the lake level higher than normal. Below is a picture taken Sunday of the dock at Texins.

In the picture above, to the right of the picnic table are two trees and a sign. You can barely make out a horizontal line, that's the railing for the steps that are suppose to lead down to the docks. You can see one dock out of the water to the right of the rails. The lattice at the far right is the fish house, its used to clean fish and at the time of the picture had a few inches of water in it. You can see how high the water was by the debris in the parking lot. You may need to click on the picture to enlarge it and see everything.

The picture below is from our trip to Lake Texoma in April. You can see the same fish house in the center of the photograph, and the steps that were attached to the railing. The water level is where the vehicles are at. The docks we were on are now behind the fish house and part of the dock is what you can see in the top picture that has buckled.

Other than the high water and sunburn, we had a great time. I'll post a few more pictures the rest of the week.

Have you ever......

Have you ever needed to find a photo or file and you couldn't find it, and you don't remember what you labeled it? You know you have it, you know exactly what it looks like. You check all of the file folders, nothing. Then you see a few disks sitting on the TV, maybe its on there? Nope, pictures of something else I was looking for last week and couldn't find. I guess I will run across it when I am not looking for it.

So frustrating. I am ready for the long weekend to start!!!!!

Terrell's newest City Council member

Sandra Wilson taking the oath of office last night as the newest member of the Terrell City Council representing District 2. Congrats Ms. Wilson, good luck, I am sure you will do a great job. Tricia has a nice story posted on the Tribune's website.

Also taking the oath of office (again) was Mr. Jack Jones. Mr. Jones is my Council Member, and ran unopposed in the last election. He has served on the Council since 1988 except for one 4 year period.

I did learn something new at the meeting, that directly relates to my day job (the one that pays).

My position at work deals with negotiating leases for space on communications towers for antennas. In order to be able to place antennas on towers or on rooftops, we have to get building permits or Specific Use Permits (SUP) from City or County governments. I don't submit for the permits or have to appear before any boards, but I do have to track the progress and report the status to our higher ups.

At the Council meeting there was a public hearing and then a discussion about a request for a Specific Use Permit for a company that is looking to do business in Terrell. The next time I ask for the status of a permit or SUP from a field tech, I will not get aggravated when they say there was no action taken. I found out last night, its not something that's done quickly. With almost every answer there is a new question.

Have y'all been following Astro_Mike on twitter? Its astronaut Mike Massimino sending down tweets from the space shuttle. Here is one of his messages from yesterday: From orbit: Listening to Sting on my ipod watching the world go by – literally. How cool is that?

I don't live very far from City Hall so I walk up there and back. On my way home. I saw a car coming up the street and turn on the street I was going to be walking down. It was a nice night and they had their windows down. Just after turning, I heard a ladies voice say "stop". I thought she was talking to me so I stopped. I was on the sidewalk and then saw the car stop. I was about even with the back bumper. I started walking again and when I got even with the window, I heard the lady in the passenger seat say "you didn't turn on your turn indicator, you have to signal before turning". I smiled and kept on walking. The car started moving again and as it passed me I heard "turn on your right turn signal" thankfully the young kid did as he was told. When the car reached the stop sign that was ahead of it, it sat there FOREVER. Long enough for me to almost catch up to it. I then heard the lady say "now turn to your right....I said right!". I got to the corner and waited for the car to turn, trying not to laugh. Once it got past, I could only wonder is that what my Mother went through while trying to teach me how to drive. My mom used to say she was going home to take a Valium. That was way back in 19 somethingorother.

Tiger season comes to an end

The 2009 Tigers baseball season came to an end last night when they lost to the Midway Panthers 8-3. Midway won the best of 3 bi-district playoff 2 games to 0 and has advanced to play Hallsville.

I am not sure what the goal was when the season started, and getting swept in the first round of the playoffs is not the way you want to end your season, but, I would guess everyone is proud of the teams accomplishment's this year. Coach Rush did an excellent job. The seniors were able to go out on a playoff team, and the underclassmen have something to build on next year. I am ready for 2010. I love daytime baseball.

Click on any picture for a larger view.

Congratulations to the Panthers and good luck the rest of the way.
Forney was swept by Waxahachie in its playoff series.
I will have one more baseball picture next Friday for Skywatch.

The Relay for Life is tonight, rain or shine, if the weather holds off, I will be down there taking pictures.
Sunday morning the Run for the Wall makes its annual stop in Terrell. Weather permitting I will be there to take photos also.

Can anyone help?

Who would do this to Batman? How can he get free?

Don't forget, the Terrell Tigers take on the Midway Panthers in game one of their best of three playoff Thursday night in Waco. If anyone wants to text or tweet updates, send me an email. Or you can add me on Facebook using the link to the right.

The Forney Jackrabbits will take on the Waxahachie Indians also on Thursday night in Forney. Game time is 7pm. That's probably the game I will be able to got to. Forney will will be playing under an interim head coach after Coach Boxley resigned last week.

Waxahachie has one of the best High School players in the country in Colton Cain. He is listed by Rivals.com as the #23 high school player. Hopefully, I will get a chance to watch him pitch. He is a lefty like me.

Terrell to face Midway in baseball playoffs

The Terrell Tigers will take on the Midway Panthers in the UIL High School baseball playoffs that begin next week in Waco. Waco defeated Waxahachie 6-0 today to win their division. The first game will be in Waco on Thursday, May 14th. The second and, if needed, third game will be in Terrell at Ben Gill Field, Saturday May 16th starting at noon. The third game will start 30 minutes after the second game ends.

Last year I watched Forney and Midway battle in the playoffs in Forney. The pictures above came from that game. Midway won that series.

I would love to be able to go to Waco to watch the Tigers but I don't think my budget will allow it.

Forney is also in the playoffs. They open against Waxahachie Thursday night in Forney. I may be able to make it to that game.
Checking the calendar at the bottom of the page, next weekend is shaping up to be a busy one. Saturday starts off with Tiger baseball. Relay for Life starts Saturday night and Sunday morning Run for the Wall 2009 makes a fuel stop in Terrell.

Tigers 22 Tigers 0

The Terrell Tigers defeated the Lancaster Tigers 22-0 Friday night. It was senior night, the last district game of the year and a good tune up for the playoffs. We should find out later this afternoon who Terrell will face in the playoffs.

Cliff has a recap of the game posted on his site.
