Last day of August

When I looked at this picture, I thought of Texas in the Summer, hot, humid and mosquito's.

Have a great week.

Rockwall to Dallas

Made a trip up to Rockwall yesterday. I was hoping the kite surfers were out, but it wasn't windy enough. I was able to use my new zoom lens to get a shot of the Dallas, Texas skyline. This was taken on an overpass of I-30 just east of Lake Ray Hubbard. The skyline is about 20 miles away by highway, probably less than that using a straight line.

Click on the picture to enlarge.

If you are looking for results from last nights Terrell Tiger - RL Turner Lions football game head over to the Terrell Tribune, Cliff has his recap posted.

Obstructed View has great photos of the game.

Next Friday the Tigers continue tour 2009 with a road game in Paris, Texas against North Lamar.

I love this post, it shows us how people from Wisconsin really feel about Brett Farve going to Minnesota.

Hitting the wall

I got home from work yesterday went to dinner and fell asleep. That's what old people do, not sure why it happened to me. I think the long week finally caught up to me. This picture is not from Terrell, but its what I feel like I hit yesterday.

The Terrell Tigers open their 2009 football season tonight at RL Turner in Carrollton at 7PM.

Listen to the game at
Photobucket

I hope Terrell has a better opening than Kaufman and Forney, who both lost close games. Cliff said he will post a recap of the game on the Terrell Tribune's site.

Wade Indoor Arena has their new website up and running. I like the photos, and yes they have permission to use them.

Lone Star High School Rodeo Association is holding the second night of their membership rodeo tonight at the Arena.

Skywatch Friday-The sky is the limit

Saturday night a new era in Tiger football begins.
The sky is the limit for these kids.
Be sure to check out yesterdays 3 posts.
All covering the Meet the Tigers

Make sure you pick up a copy of Thursdays Terrell Tribune, Sports Editor Cliff Gibson has a special Terrell High School fall sports preview section. He spotlights the Tiger football, golf, tennis, volleyball and cross country teams. He also has a preview of the other District 15-4A football teams.

I know this isn't a real Skywatch Friday post, forgive me. I did not include my link in the Skywatch Friday site, but if you want to view other Skywatch Friday sites

Tiger Up!

The football team opens play Saturday night on the road. Coach Gilbert introduced us the the 2009 varsity team at Meet the Tiger.

New AD and head football coach Chris Gilbert

Varsity players line up after being introduced.

Group shot of the volleyball team and all of the football squads.

Players waiting to make the walk.

Tiger spirit

Continuing the photos from last nights Meet the Tigers event at the Terrell Athletic Complex.

Nice elevation, he is a Tiger varsity baseball player.

Tiger mascot

Terrell Tigerettes

The band got everyone fired up.

I got to the complex late so I had to sit pretty high up. It gave me a chance to play with the zoom lens. I plan on knowing how to use it with the settings before basketball season starts. For those that asked, my new camera is a Nikon D60 and I love it.

Meet the Tigers

School started back up this week and last night Terrell High School hosted Meet the Tigers. The easiest way to describe it, is it's a pep rally for the town. The host was the new athletic director and head football coach Chris Gilbert. He let each coach for the fall sports introduce their sports participants. Here are just a few of the pictures.

The entrance included the Varsity and JV cheerleaders, Tigerettes, band and the tiger mascot.

Members of the 9-1 volleyball team

The Terrell golf teams. The girls team is 1 person.

Cross country

The tennis team was also introduced, but there are a ton of tennis players.
More pictures to come, I feel like breaking the rules today.

Flights of our Fathers Fly-In artwork

Come out to Terrell, Texas on October 2nd & 3rd for the Flights of our Fathers Fly-In. Below is the event poster and link to their site(not my work). I have the link posted to the right that will remain up until the event.

Photobucket

The Fly-In isn't the only happening in Terrell. On Saturday September 26th, Terrell will honor home town success story Jamie Foxx. A motorcade will transport Mr. Foxx from City Hall to Memorial Stadium. If you cant get tickets to the event at the stadium, come out to Terrell and line Moore Ave. Its not often you get a chance to see an Academy Award winner up close.

A facebook friend posted the You Tube clip below and I was amazed by this ladies voice. Her name is Ruthie Foster, and she is from Texas!

Your table is ready

The remodeled patio at Taqueria Dos Aces before opening for the day.

They have great fajitas.

I didnt win the Mega Millions lottery. I am going to have to get 1 ticket for Friday nights drawing, the jackpot will be $325 million.

Sunflower

I am still playing with my new camera and trying to read everything I can.

Work has started.....

Work has started on improving the parking between the alley and the railroad tracks south of Moore Ave. in Terrell. Hopefully with the improved parking, customers will find it easier to park and shop downtown.

This was taken Saturday the 22nd. I will go back down when they are finished and do an after shot.

It seems lately I have been listening to more music that watching television (that's a good thing). Last night I stayed up late listening to Linkin Park and then the Go-Gos, I know what a combo.

First day of school

Today was the first day of school for most area school districts. The only thing it really means to me is that I have to leave the house earlier. I do look forward to the upcoming football season. Friday night Terrell traveled up to Sulphur Springs for a controlled scrimmage against the Wildcats. Cliff had a nice write up in Sundays Tribune about the scrimmage. Here is another take on the scrimmage and of the Tigers from someone that's not from Terrell.

Terrell plays RL Turner Saturday night at 7: 00PM in Carrollton.(start time corrected thanks to thefullcount2)

On the way home from work today, I saw two Peterman buses sitting on the shoulder of Hwy 34. Looked like one of the buses had broke down. The little kids were being taken off one bus and put on another. Not a good sign for the new bus carrier on the first day of school with the temperature in the mid 90s.

Doormats 2009 version

I mentioned that Saturday was our annual fantasy football draft. Here you are looking at a bunch of losers (the other teams). One loser didn't like being called a loser, so he gets his head blurred out.

My team?

QB Payton Manning
RB Frank Gore
RB Brandon Jacobs
WR Roy Williams
WR Santonio Holmes
WR Braylon Edwards
TE Jeremy Shockey
K Rob Bironas
Def Pittsburgh

My backups are
Fred Taylor
Ray Rice
Ted Ginn
Kevin Curtis

I think this is my first year with no St. Louis Rams.

Flights of our Fathers Fly-In, Oct. 2nd & 3rd

Join us in Terrell, Texas on October 2nd and 3rd for Flights of our Fathers Fly-In. On the heels of the Terrell Photowalk, I will be hosting a photowalk at the Fly-In. If you have a camera and can upload pictures, sign up. Photos can be submitted from the dinner dance on Friday night, the pancake breakfast on Saturday morning, or the Fly-in festivities on Saturday. I will be attending the Fly-In on Saturday and I will send out and post more information here about where to meet up. A page will be created on flickr for photos to be uploaded. Of the photos uploaded to flickr, a panel of judges (not me!) will pick the top 3. They will be placed on a web page and a winner will be selected by the readers. The winner will have their picture published in the Terrell Tribune and may be used in the Fly-In promotion next year. More information as we get closer to the Fly-In

Below is the press release for the fly-in. Even if you don't want to participate in the photowalk, come out, have fun and take pictures of the vintage aircraft.

Draft day

Today we meet in Dallas for our annual fantasy football league draft. We have a core group that has been together probably 10 years. Hopefully, I draft better than last year and not have the feeling I am staring at oncoming traffic.

I will post my team later today.

Skywatch Friday-Last sunrise for a while

Most schools start on Monday, which means having to drive through school zones to get to work. The drive always takes another 15-30 minutes extra. Leaving early means I will miss the fantastic sunrises. At least for a little while.

For a list of all participating Skywatch Friday sites, click here.

What is this?

Some kind of moth?

This was taken a few weeks ago outside work with my Samsung point and shoot. You have to click to enlarge this one, its real gross.

October 2nd & 3rd the British Flying Training School Museum and the Terrell Municipal Airport will host Flights of our Fathers Fly-In. I am going to be setting up a photowalk type even to cover both days. The Fly-In events are posted here. There will be more details to come.

Last year was the inaugural event and it was a huge success.
The photo below is from last years Fly-In.

I am not the only one getting older

Thanks to everyone who wished me a happy birthday. It was a good day. My niece and nephew both sent birthday wishes and wanted to remind me how old I was getting.
Here is Ashley, my niece, sitting next to me and Trevor my nephew sitting in front of me. This picture is over 10 years old. Ashley is now 21 years old and today is Trevor's first day in High School.

See, I know how to get even. BTW, here is a link to Ashley and Trevor's Mom, my sister, Traci from a few years ago.

Along those same lines, yesterday was Stephanie's last day at work for a while. She will be going into the hospital today to have her baby daughter. We gave instructions that her husband is to text us as soon as she has it.

and, here is Steph in the green from November 2007 stressing over the Thanksgiving spread at work.

Its my birthday

I am 45 today, yea me.

These are just random shots from Ben Gill Park using my new birthday camera.

Our fantasy football draft is 3 days away.........Can you say geek?

Ben Gill ducks

After my workout last night, I headed over to Ben Gill Park. I found some ducks that didn't mind getting their picture taken.

This one isn't in focus as much as I would like, but I like the
reflections of the ducks heads.

Scott Kelby announced the winners of the Worldwide Photowalk. Our entry from Terrell didn't win. I would like to think that its not that it wasn't a great photo, but the winner and runner ups were some fantastic shots. I am looking forward to next year.

Cliff has his NCAA football predictions over at The Full Count v2.0. I agree with many of his choices and I like Texas in the BCS Championship game. Hop over to his site to see all of his picks.

37 days till the State Fair of Texas kicks off.

Is it Friday yet?

BBQ shack on wheels

Yesterdays lunch was from Big Dawgs BBQ Shack. We noticed it Saturday, and thought we might as well give it a try. We got a bbq sandwich, chips and a soda for $6, not a bad price. I had the sausage sandwich. The sauce was great.

The trailer won't be out next weekend, but they said to look for them in 2 weeks.

The winner should be announced today for the Scott Kelby Worldwide Photowalk. There were some amazing photos submitted.

Flowers with my Nikon D60

We went out yesterday to get some pictures with my new camera. There is so much to learn.

Saturday, August 15, 2009

I got a new camera

My first post with my new Nikon D60 camera. I got the gear for my birthday a few days early. I am excited to see what all I can do. I got the camera with 18-55 lens and 55-200 lens.

The subject isn't that great, but I just wanted to snap a picture of something.

Skywatch Friday-Texas sky

A beautiful Texas sky.

To visit all of the Skywatch Friday sites, click here.

The Cowboys lost last night, but it was only preseason. I think they have a lot of work to do. Michael Vick signed with the Philadelphia Eagles, another reason to dislike the Eagles. He is an interesting player for fantasy football leagues though.

The Cowboys play their first game in the new Cowboys stadium next Thursday night. It's still preseason, but its a chance to see the game and stadium. If the game does not sell out, it will be blacked out locally. If anyone has tickets they are not going to use, send them my way. :-). I can blog from the game.

Buy you a drink?

One of the wine racks at Tony's, my corner story. They look a little dusty.

A rumor I posted a few days ago was incorrect. The Terrell Tribune has the announcement.

Every morning this week I have said I was going to go to bed early that night.
The Cowboys start their preseason tonight in California. Game starts at 9pm local time.
OK, maybe I will go to bed early Friday night.....

I stayed up late last night watching old clips from the Midnight Special on You Tube. Maybe during the game tonight I will look up Don Kirshner's Rock Concert. Both were favorites of mine growing up.

The owners of the puppy mill raided in Kaufman County have gone on Dallas TV saying they loved their animals and didn't neglect or abuse any of the almost 600 dogs....two people to care for almost 600 animals and they said they were not hurt, abused or mistreated.

The same TV station ran a clip of a gentleman proposing marriage to his girlfriend inside a Wal-Mart. Its reported they ceremony will take place in the casino they both work in...... I wonder if they will live in his trailer or her trailer?

Anyone have any extra stimulus money laying around? I was told my check is in the mail.

Finally the ice cream

All of these pictures from Ham's Orchard and no ice cream?

This is Brian's Grandmother Helen, sitting outside on a bench enjoying a peach ice cream cone.

Terrible story about a raided puppy mill coming out of southern Kaufman County yesterday that you have to read. The Kaufman Herald has the details. The story will bring tears to your eyes.

Ham's goodies

Ham's Orchard has more than peaches and fudge.

Click on either picture for a larger view.

Interesting item about State Rep. Betty Brown. I wonder who they have for sources.

Cliff has his NFL predictions posted over on The Full Count v2.0. He has my Rams improving their win total from last year by 1 game. Check out his calls and see where he has your team finishing.

Obvious Insight has been blogging while on her Caribbean cruise.

Don also has some goodies that were auctioned off for a good cause posted at East Texas Photo.

Terrell ISD has a revamped website. Do they have an athletic booster club?

I don't shop at Brookshires much because its not easy to navigate the parking lot, but I did stop in there Sunday. They have Terrell Tigers, shirts and hats on sale. I have always wondered why our local Wal-Mart does not carry Terrell Tiger merchandise (Tiger lip balm doesn't count). I have seen Scurry-Rosser and Forney T-shirts, but nothing for Terrell.

Ham's Orchard Fudge

Ham's Orchard will close for the season when they close next Sunday, August 16th. We had to take one more trip out there for some peach ice cream.

In addition to ice cream, Ham's also makes their own fudge. I would love to try the caramel pecan cheesecake fudge. The orange cream looks good also. Heck, they all look good.

Click on the picture for a larger view.
You can even make out some of the fudge types on the table.

NFL football on TV last night, it may only be pre-season, but it's here, that's all that matters.

NASCAR postponed due to rain for the second week in a row. I am quickly losing interest.

From GeekSpeak I found a link to Americas Best Haunts. Thrillvania Thrill Park in Terrell has made the top 12 Haunts for 2009.

I think I am going to apply for this, Terrell Citizens University. It's not a reality show, just reality.

Today starts week 2 in my new workout routine.

Ever want to be on The Price is Right? They are holding a contestant search on August 22nd in Hurst, TX. I would be there, but that's the same day of our fantasy football draft.

Stuffed

Just got back from breakfast, darn Denny's coupon in the Tribune again. Now I need to get motivated to go outside and take of yard work.

Obvious Insight has a beautiful picture and post today. Check it out.
