Road Trip-My money at work

We took a trip up to Choctaw Casino on Sunday. I lost less than I expected to lose, so that's a win....right? Below you can see what my money is helping build. A high rise hotel and larger casino. I wish the Texas Legislature would allow Texans the opportunity to vote on bringing casinos to Texas.

Beautiful moon tonight

A couple of days ago I posted a shot of the almost full moon on automatic settings. Jacob gave me an assignment to try for the full moon using manual settings. Below are the results. I wanted to get the shot Friday night, but it was overcast all night.

I know others have taken better shots of the moon, but I am pretty proud of mine. I love the detail.

College football season started today. Great start for the University of Texas, not so good for Oklahoma.

First Monday Canton, Texas

First Monday Labor Day holiday weekend in Canton, Texas. I took this when I got to a clearing. The Arbors were packed.

The weather was great, I think we walked about 4 miles. Only 3 First Mondays left before Christmas. On your way out to Canton, be sure to stop off in Terrell for some good food and more shopping.

Terrell Tigers win, start 2-0

The Terrell Tigers defeated the North Lamar Panthers last night in Paris, Texas 21-7. Cliff has a recap of the game posted on the Tribune website.




My plans for today's post didn't work out so well. Last night was a full moon and I was going to attempt to get a picture using the manual settings on my camera. It turned out to be a cloudy night with no moon in sight. I will have to try it again when I can see the moon.

My favorite baseball player and probably the best player in MLB is Albert Pujols of the St. Louis Cardinals. If you are a fan of baseball, please take a few minutes to read this story about Albert.

Three weeks from today on September 26th, Terrell will welcome home Jamie Foxx. There will be a presentation at Memorial Stadium at 10am. Admission into the stadium is by ticket only. Tickets are available through local churches or the Terrell Chamber of Commerce. You can also line Moore Ave. from Adelaide to the football stadium for the motorcade from City Hall.

Obese? OBESE!

We had a 'wellness fair' at work today. They brought in our providers who answered questions about our benefits and we also got a BMI test. It seems for my weight and height I am borderline obese. The good thing was I got my BMI test done early, I had all day to marinate over it........Obese my fat a**!

This is Moore Ave. in Terrell just west of downtown looking east. You can see the moon that I got last night. A coworker is taking a photography class. She told me the first thing the class was told was to never use the automatic settings, they make you lazy. This weekend I am going to try to get away from the auto settings. I already have an assignment from Jacob to shoot the moon. I think its going to be a full moon Friday night, I will give it a try.



Tonight starts the last weekend of preseason pro football games. I hope everyone makes it out of this weekend with no major injuries. Regular season (fantasy season) starts on the 10th, finally.

D60 Moon

I know this is just a simple shot of an almost full moon, but its the first one where I have been able to make any detail out on the moon. This was taken with my D60 on automatic setting at sunset with no flash. Imagine how good it can look once I learn how to use my camera.



Made it through day 30 of P90X. I checked the pictures from day 1 and today, and I can see a difference. Only 60 more days to go.

Stayed up late again last night, this time listening to the new music from Whitney Houston. Tonight I go to bed early.

I am still thinking about applying for this.

Terrell residents have an opportunity to learn more about their city at the Terrell Citizens University.

Scheduled for this fall, the University is designed to promote citizen awareness of City of Terrell government services and a working knowledge of City processes and procedures.

Classes will include a tour of City facilities and sessions on growth management, retail, leakage analysis, City government & public safety, code enforcement and more. Classes will be held at the City of Terrell Service Center at 400 Industrial Blvd. from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Thursday evenings.

The application deadline is September 25.

I really was never into this movie growing up, and I hate to admit it, but as I get older I am starting to like it. Youth is wasted on the wrong people.

Theme day-Big

Septembers theme is Big. I had to dig into the vault for this one. Its Big Tex, he is the host of the State Fair of Texas.


The State Fair runs from Sept 25th to Oct 18th in Fair Park, Dallas, Texas.

Rockwall to Dallas

Made a trip up to Rockwall yesterday. I was hoping the kite surfers were out, but it wasn't windy enough. I was able to use my new zoom lens to get a shot of the Dallas, Texas skyline. This was taken on an overpass of I-30 just east of Lake Ray Hubbard. The skyline is about 20 miles away by highway, probably less than that using a straight line.

Hitting the wall

I got home from work yesterday went to dinner and fell asleep. That's what old people do, not sure why it happened to me. I think the long week finally caught up to me. This picture is not from Terrell, but its what I feel like I hit yesterday.

I got to the complex late so I had to sit pretty high up. It gave me a chance to play with the zoom lens. I plan on knowing how to use it with the settings before basketball season starts. For those that asked, my new camera is a Nikon D60 and I love it.

Meet the Tigers

School started back up this week and last night Terrell High School hosted Meet the Tigers. The easiest way to describe it, is it's a pep rally for the town. The host was the new athletic director and head football coach Chris Gilbert. He let each coach for the fall sports introduce their sports participants. Here are just a few of the pictures.

The entrance included the Varsity and JV cheerleaders, Tigerettes, band and the tiger mascot.

Flights of our Fathers Fly-In artwork

Come out to Terrell, Texas on October 2nd & 3rd for the Flights of our Fathers Fly-In. Below is the event poster and link to their site(not my work). I have the link posted to the right that will remain up until the event.



The Fly-In isn't the only happening in Terrell. On Saturday September 26th, Terrell will honor home town success story Jamie Foxx. A motorcade will transport Mr. Foxx from City Hall to Memorial Stadium. If you cant get tickets to the event at the stadium, come out to Terrell and line Moore Ave. Its not often you get a chance to see an Academy Award winner up close.

A facebook friend posted the You Tube clip below and I was amazed by this ladies voice. Her name is Ruthie Foster, and she is from Texas!

I didnt win the Mega Millions lottery. I am going to have to get 1 ticket for Friday nights drawing, the jackpot will be $325 million.

I am still playing with my new camera and trying to read everything I can.

Work has started.....

Work has started on improving the parking between the alley and the railroad tracks south of Moore Ave. in Terrell. Hopefully with the improved parking, customers will find it easier to park and shop downtown.

This was taken Saturday the 22nd. I will go back down when they are finished and do an after shot.



It seems lately I have been listening to more music that watching television (that's a good thing). Last night I stayed up late listening to Linkin Park and then the Go-Gos, I know what a combo.
