Tigers get first District win

The Tigers won their first District 15-4A game of the year last night beating the West Mesquite Wranglers 7-3.  Cody Patton pitched 6.1  innings striking out 8, giving up 8 hits and 3 runs.  Heath Hottinger led the hitting attack with an RBI triple and scoring 2 runs.

The Tigers look on make it 2 in a row Friday night at home against the Lancaster Tigers.

Cody Weishaar led off the game with a double and scored on a ground out by Victor Andrade.

Below is my poor attempt to take video of the game.  This is Cody Patton taking a walk and Heath Hottinger hitting a triple to center field to score Cody.

Under the weather

I was under the weather yesterday so I wasn't able to make it to any of the games last night.  The Lady Tigers soccer team lost in their playoff game to Rockwall 1-0 in double overtime.  The softball team lost to Waxahachie  15-3.

Another shot from Austin.  Sundays race weather was in the 50s, but Saturday was 80s and beautiful.

Wisteria

The Wisteria is just about gone.  This was at Zilker Park in Austin, TX.  Taken the day before the Capitol 10K. Brian has a nice shot he posted Sunday from Zilker Park.  Austin is a beautiful town, I may post a few more pictures from there, but to see Austin every day visit Austin Texas Daily Photo.

Tonight is a busy night for Tiger athletics.  The Lady Tigers soccer team takes on Rockwall in the playoffs.  It is scheduled to start at 6PM in Royse City.

The baseball team travels to West Mesquite, first pitch is 7PM.

The Lady Tigers softball team is at home hosting Waxahachie.  Game time is set for 4:30.

If you were ever stationed at Bergstrom AFB in Austin, TX, check out the Facebook page for the old base.

2011 Capitol 10K

It's finally over.  I ran my first 10K yesterday in Austin.  I finished the race in 1:19:07.  Not a great time, but I didnt finish last.  I love the thrill at the start of the race.  Running up Congress Ave towards the Capitol building with 23,000 other runners is so surreal.

Last year I walked the 10K and took pictures along the way.  This year I had a camera, but after this shot it went into my pack and I ran the race.

I'm ready for next years race.

Today is the Capitol 10K.  Last night we traveled around Austin.  This is from the roof of Maggie Maes on 6th Street in Austin.

SXSW was last weekend, but they still have the street signs up.

I was able to shoot some baseball shots yesterday afternoon for the Terrell Athletic Booster Club. This shot didn't make the cut.

Austin

3 Days to go

How many me's do you see?

The Terrell Daily Photo Facebook page almost has 500 fans. I added some photos from Tuesdays Terrell vs Forney baseball game to Facebook and iHigh.

Don J., photographer/writer/story teller for the Terrell Tribune has a neat post up about baseball photography on his personal site, East Texas Photo.  He posted his view of the same action I posted yesterday.  His last post was a play at first base that I didn't post yesterday, but its the one below.  It was already getting pretty dark, so my shot isn't that great.  It looks like we snapped at the exact same time.  Check out the chalk coming up off the back foot of the runner in both pics.

Don says photography is competitive, and I guess it is. I am always thinking, I wonder what Don's shot looks like.   But, Don always has tips or settings that can help get a better picture. He also has a professional site with some awesome photos for sale.

Only 4 days to go.

Tigers take it on the chin again

The Tigers will have to wait for another day to earn their first District win.  They traveled to Forney last night and were run ruled by the Jackrabbits 15-3.

Cody Weishaar did have an outstanding catch in centerfield for the Tigers early in the game.

Barn Charm

It's been a while since I posted to Barn Charm, Tricias weekly series.  I think this barn has had it, but I like seeing these old barns on the side of the road.  Check out other sites posting their Barn Charm photos here.

Today is Brians birthday.  Wish him a Happy Birthday at Texas Daily Photo.

The baseball Tigers travel to Forney tonight.  The softball Lady Tigers host Lancaster.

Terrell, Texas Monday Morning Mashup

The weekend weather was great, and it seems everyone who owned a motorcycle was on the road.

Less than a week till the Cap10K in Austin.  This will be my first timed 10K.

The Tigers baseball team took another tough loss Friday night to Red Oak.  Tuesday night they travel to Forney to take on the Jackrabbits.  The Terrell vs Forney games are always fun since the towns are so close to each other.   The Dallas Morning News has baseball statistics posted for the Tigers, however, since most of their HS sports information is wrong.  I wouldn't put much into what they have.

UPDATED: I verified with Coach Davis, the individual stats are correct on the DMN website.  Their record 4-15 and 0-3 in district.
The Lady Tigers soccer regular season is over.  They finished with a 17-7-1 record.  The DMN has them at 12-7 but they don't include the Hallsville Tournament the ladies played in.  They have a bye in the bi-district round of the playoffs.  Their first game will be in the Area round, on either March 28th or 29th.  They will play the winner of Rockwall and Dallas Conrad who meet in bi-district.  Rockwall will be a heavy favorite in that match up.

The Terrell ISD has their regular Board meeting tonight.  On the agenda is item #9, Consider Superintendent's recommendation to hire Terrell ISD Athletic Director/Head Football Coach.

Have you visited the Terrell Tigers on iHigh yet?  New photos added included Lady Tigers softball pictures against Forney and Corsicana and baseball pictures from the Red Oak game.

Supermoon

The evening started out cloudy.  I was pretty sure I wouldnt get a nice shot of the supermoon that was suppose to be out last night.

But, around midnight the clouds cleared and I was able to get a nice shot of the Supermoon in Texas.  To be honest, though, it looks like any other full moon to me.

Tigers drop to 0-3 in District

The Terrell Tigers were unable to put away the Hawks from Red Oak Friday night losing 9-2.  The Tigers allowed Red Oak to score to 8 times with two outs.  Red Oak scored 3 times in the fourth inning without having to get a hit.  They scored their first 6 runs with only 2 hits.  The Tigers only managed 3 hits and Tiger batters struck out 15 times.

Skywatch Friday-Sun was in my eyes

Yesterday was a wonderful day, no clouds and the temperature in the 70s. The sun setting later because of daylight savings time as been nice too. Today should be in the 80s and a super day!

I hope we have a clear sky Saturday night, the moon will be a super perigree moon.  It will be 14% bigger and 30% brighter.

Today is the final day for Spring Break for area school districts. All Tiger sports are in action today. The schedule is posted on iHigh.

My NCAA bracket took a hit last night with Missouri and Michigan State losing. The sun got in my eyes when I was making the picks. I am 12 for 16 so far.

Sonic has new premium 100% beef hotdogs.  That makes me wonder whats the % of beef in the foot long coneys I have been eating for years?  Maybe I don't want to know.

Maybe the NCAA Tournament Selection Committee?

Have you made your bracket picks?

Terrell, Texas Monday Morning Mashup

This is one of my favorite shots from the first half of the baseball season.  Terrell didn't come away from the I-30 Classic in Rockwall with any wins, but they did come away with valuable experience that will help when start back up later this week. Rockwall Heath came away with the I-30 Classic Championship.   Check my Tigers baseball story on iHigh.  Baseball photos have also been uploaded to Facebook, feel free to tag the pictures and hit the like button.

Added to iHigh are photos from Terrells game Friday afternoon against Burleson High School and Lady Tiger softball pictures from their game against Red Oak High School and the Wills Point tournament.

If you haven't visited iHigh this month, please click here.  It helps the Terrell Athletics Booster Club. Just click over for a minute.

Weather permitting, the Lady Tigers softball team, taking advantage of Spring Break, has an afternoon game today at 1PM in Forney.

My Dash Down Greenville time was 35:28, about average for me.  With the size of the race, I'll take that time.  I added a small album to the TDP Facebook page of just a few of the people I saw at the Dash Down Greenville.

In two weeks its the Cap10K in Austin, TX.  Even though its a 10K, I can't wait.

Register for the Fountain 5K by following the link on the right.  The race is held during the Heritage Jubilee on April 16th in Terrell, TX.

Dash Down Greenville

Yesterday was the Dash Down Greenville.  The 2010 Dash was the first 5K race for Brian and me.

This was near the end.  There were over 3000 timed runners.

Painful tournament in Rockwall

The Tigers are having a tough time at the I-30 Classic in Rockwall.  They have lost 4 games in two days.  They have one more game today at 10AM against Royse City in Royse City.

Lane Jackson took this pitch off his wrist.  He stayed in the game to run the bases, but was replaced in the bottom of the inning.

My street taken yesterday.  Check out January and February.  This is a photo project to photograph the same area every month on the same day.

A storm passed through

The dark clouds rolled in just before 6PM last night, followed by the rain.

Hopefully we will learn the name of the new Athletic Director/Head Football Coach for the Terrell Tigers today.

Happy Mardi Gras

I normally avoid posting pictures of myself.  I'll make an exception today.  This is me Saturday morning before the Mardi Gras 5K run.

The Tiger baseball team travels to Waxahachie for a district match up against the Indians. First pitch is 7PM.

The boys soccer team plays in Kaufman.  Kaufman is looking to clinch a playoff spot with a win and are going all out to ensure a big turnout.

The Lady Tigers soccer team will host Kaufman tonight.  Terrell has already clinched a playoff spot but a match against Kaufman is always a tough battle.

Finally, the Lady Tigers softball team will travel to Mesquite for a game against the Skeeters.  The Lady Tigers final game in the Wills Point tournament scheduled for this past Saturday was cancelled.  I guess thats why I couldn't find it.

Terrell, Texas Monday Morning Mashup

I was driving around lost on a windy Saturday looking for a softball game and I came across a JV baseball game between Kaufman and Wills Point.  I stuck around for a little bit, taking a few pictures, then went on my way continuing to being lost.  They have a nice field in Wills Point.

Saturday morning was the Mardi Gras 5K run in Richardson, TX.  The race was fun, just about the right size, about 900 runners.  I finished the 5K with my best time ever 33:23.   This Saturday is the Dash Down Greenville.  Last years Dash was my first 5K.

I put up a link for the Fountain 5K to be held in Terrell during the Heritage Jubilee on April 16th.

The Tigers baseball team finished the Jesse Cummings baseball tournament in Corsicana on Saturday with a win over Denison.  The Tigers overall record stands at 4-8, 0-1 in district.  These tournaments are perfect for preparing the team for district play.  Last year the Tigers didn't have success early in the year but all of the games and experience paid off when they got into the district schedule.  They have  a district game tomorrow night in Waxahachie before heading up to Rockwall for the I-30 Classic starting Thursday.

Thank you for the votes in the iHigh photo contest.  I don't have a chance to make the top 5.  Yesterday one of the photos added almost 4000 votes in 5 hours.  That's 13 votes every minute for 300 minutes.  I am sure the other photos will generate that many votes today.  I'd like to know their secret.

So, instead of voting for me, please visit the Terrell Tigers ihigh page at least once from each computer in your house or office.  The Terrell booster club can get paid for unique visits to the site.

My new favorite burger is from Five Guys.  In and Out will have a tough time beating it.

This was taken just as the sun was coming up from the parking lot of the Cowtown 5K & 10K. You can just make out the balloons over the finish line.

See other Skywatch Friday sites here.

Second round of the iHigh photo contest is over. I just made the top 10. Next up will be a week of voting for the top 5 spots. Click the photo of the baseball player on the right and vote for me.

Tomorrow is the Mardi Gras Run at Galatyn Park in Richardson, Tx. Its the same course as the Super Bowl XL run. I liked that course, so I am looking forward to tomorrows run.

The Fountain 5K in Terrell has registration information online. I'll post a link to it on the Monday Morning Mashup.

Fundamentals

The Mesquite Poteet Pirates, using a starting a lineup of 9 seniors, sent a message to District 15-4A that they are ready to defend their district championship.  Unfortunately the young Terrell squad was on the other end of the message and a 16-1 score.  The Pirates scored 5 times in the first inning, and added 11 more in innings two through five.  The game ended after five inning because of the 10 run rule. Blake Giffin pitched 4 solid inning, giving up 1 hit, 3 walks while striking out 9 for the Pirates.  Poteet lead off batter Arrington Alexander walked twice, scored 3 runs and had a 3 RBI triple.  The Pirates haven't lost a district game since 2007.

Please visit the Terrell iHigh site, and dont forget to vote for my picture in the contest.  You can vote as often as you want.

There was a story on iHigh posted Feb 9th about Lancaster wanting to hire La Marque AD/FC Darrell Jordan for their vacant head coaching job before they offered the position to former Terrell AD/HC Chris Gilbert. I mentioned on Facebook on the same day that maybe Coach Jordan would be interested in the Terrell job. It was reported by The Galveston County Daily News that he was offered a contract extension in January but had not yet accepted it. No new coaching news for Terrell, but additional news out of Galveston is that Coach Jordan was named by the Houston Texans as Coach of the Year for leading his team to the state championship this past year.

Theme day - Favorite part of town

Today is Theme Day in the City Daily Photo world.  The theme for March is favorite part of town.  For me thats easy.

The Tigers baseball team begins district play tonight at home against 2010 District Champions Mesquite Poteet.  Last year, playing in the old District 15-4A Poteet went 12-0 in district and 24-4 overall.  This year the Pirates are one of the favorites in the realigned District 15-4A and will be a tough test for the Tigers.  JV plays at 4:30PM, the varsity will follow.

The Lady Tigers soccer team has an important district contest tonight at Memorial Stadium against district leader Forney.  In their first meeting in Forney on Valentines day, Forney shut out the Lady Tigers and won 3-0.  Forney is 7-0 in district play outscoring their opponents 34-2 in those 7 games.  The Lady Tigers are 12-5-1 overall and 5-2 in district.  The match starts at 7PM.  Photos have been added to iHigh and the Facebook page from last weeks 5-0 win over Crandall.

The Lady Tigers softball team travels to Waxahachie tonight, and the boys soccer team will travel to Forney.
