A tree grows.....

This is the back side of one of the businesses on Moore Ave. I like that as the years go by more and more of the original bricks are exposed. I think I am going to keep an eye out for that tree and see how big it gets before someone removes it.

For those that asked yesterday about the donkeys on the basketball floor. I think they said the donkeys had on hard rubber shoes.

Here is another video of Irrelevant doing Hash Pipe.

Donkey Basketball in Terrell, Texas

Saturday night the Terrell ISD PTO Council put on a donkey basketball show at the Terrell High School campus. If you have never seen a game of donkey basketball, I suggest you check it out. There was a lot of laughing and a lot of grimices when players fell of or got thrown off their donkeys. Click on each picture for a larger image.

Jump ball?

To score you had to be on the donkey. A clown was on site with a
shovel for any mess, and cheerleaders were on hand to root the
players on.

Not everyone was able to stay on their donkey

Terrell Tribune sports reporter Cliff Gibson tries to beg or maybe
bribe his donkey to move.

NETFAA, Artists reception

Saturday afternoon the NETFAA held an artists reception for the Paint Historic Terrell event. I think they had well over 30 paintings on display of the historic homes of Terrell. It looked like the event was huge success. All of the paintings and drawings are for sale. If you are a Northeast Texas artists, check out the NETFAA website.

The first picture is the artist who created the winning painting, Kyle Wood with camera in hand, describing his painting and what attracted him to paint that house.

Below is the winning painting

This is just a sample of the artwork on display.

Refreshments were served

The painting on the right is the Carnegie building that I have featured
on my site and even had as my header page for the first year.

The pencil and charcoal drawing below is of the house I showed a few days ago.

Irrelevant at Rembrandt's in Dallas, Texas

Last night a group of people from work went down to Rembrandt's Dutch Pub in Dallas to listen to Irrelevant, a great band that plays awesome music that I recognized. The drummer for Irrelevant works for the same company that we all do and the lead guitar player is the husband of someone who works at our company. I have included a clip of them playing Hey Jealousy.

I see how people can get Tangled in Wisteria. These vines were huge, but smelled nice.

One that got away

Terrell played a tough Red Oak team Tuesday night and almost came away with the win. It took extra innings but Red Oak finally won 7-5. The kids played hard and deserved to win. They have another tough game Friday night in Mesquite against Mesquite Poteet.

I took pictures, but I am not happy they way they turned out. I guess I was playing to much with the settings. But like baseball, you win some and lose some. Hopefully I learned from my mistakes and can do better next time. I did win a $25 gift card, when the number on my program was called. I would have taken a win by the Tigers instead, but free gas isn't bad.

I have added a calendar to the bottom of the page. If you have an event in the Terrell area you want listed send me an email, terrelldailyphoto@hotmail.com. If you have something you would like to see on here, let me know. You can also always send in your pictures. I will give full credit to the photographer.

NETFAA, Paint Historic Terrell paintout

Starting last Saturday and continuing till the 28th, The Northeast Texas Fine Art Alliance is holding a 'Paint Historic Terrell' event. Artist can use any fine art media to document the historic homes of Terrell. On the 28th there will be a reception and prizes awarded for the best work. The homes are all identified with a NETFAA Paintout sign. I went by the City of Terrell Marketing Center today and they have approximately a dozen homes listed on the Paintout and already have a couple of paintings finished.

Last night was the last night of winter. It was a beautiful night in Terrell, temperature in the high 60s, just a couple of wispy clouds and a sky full of stars.

Meals on Wheels Bake Sale results

On Tuesday a bake sale was held at my place of work. Each team brought in their favorite goodies. All money collected was to be donated to Meals on Wheels.

Happy to say that our team sold $128.00 in sweets.

Overall the bake sale raised an outstanding $830.00 for Meals on Wheels.
Above are Denese and Stephanie, they are a big reason why we did
so well. This was our table filled with everything you can think of.

Here is the team that helped us do so well, and what was left near the
end of the sale.

To make up for the sweets I ate, I walked almost 5 miles.
I walked a mile on my breaks at work.
1 mile to and from the gym.
2 miles on the treadmill.
Almost a mile to the City Council meeting..

Dr. Gwendolyn Kines Day in Terrell, Texas

Terrell Mayor Hal Richards reads the proclamation to Dr. Kines
in front of a standing room only crowd.

In July 2007, I posted a picture of my dentist office. My title was Best Dentist in Terrell, it was about my dentist Dr. Gwendolyn Kines.

Last night was the City Council meeting and since my life is so exciting I decided to go see what was going on. To my surprise (and Dr. Kines) they were leading off the meeting by recognizing the work Dr. Kines does in the community. Mayor Hal Richards read a proclamation declaring March 18, 2009 Dr. Gwendolyn Kines day in Terrell, Texas.

Here are a few stories about Dr. Kines and some of the work she does in Terrell. These all have appeared in the Terrell Tribune over the last few years.

Former Terrellite checks Rotarians on dental habits

Kiwanis Club, Bright Smiles Clinic team up to teach good dental health

Local dentist Kines teams with Kiwanis Club to help give school kids a smile

Dentists offer preventive care during ‘Give Kids a Smile Day’

I met Tricia, a reporter from Tribune, and owner of Tricia's POV. I am sure she will have a story in the Tribune about the proclamation from the Mayor. If it gets posted online, I will provide the link.

UPDATED: Tricia's story is now posted at the Terrell Tribune Online, City honors local dentist.

After the recognition of Dr. Kines, the Council went about its regular business. I will look for Tricia's story on that also.

I will post the results of the bake sale tomorrow morning.

St. Patrick's Day Bake Sale

The company I work for is having a bake sale today. People are encouraged to bake their favorite goodies and bring them to work. They are going to sell the goodies to coworkers. All money raised will be donated to Meals on Wheels. I can burn water, so trying to bake is out of the question. Do you think anyone will be able to tell I didn't bake these?

I am off to work early to set up my baked goods. :-)
