Tomorrow I am going to start taking pictures of the holiday displays. Everything seemed to go up today around town.

The house that gave us the wonderful Halloween display is being decorated tonight. I cant wait to see it.

Home Cooking

For a great breakfast or good home cooking I would suggest the Yellow Rose. The parking isnt that good, the space is small but the food is good.

Cold day in the park

This weekend was cold and wet. A great time to take a trip to Ben Gill Park.

Terrell Heritage Museum

This is a different angle of the banner photo, which is the Terrell Heritage museum located just off the old downtown area of Terrell. The museum is open to the public and includes some artifacts of early life in Terrell. Upstairs they have the remains of an old pump pipe organ and some archived pictures of the city as it was first growing into the metropolis that it is today.

I had some paint shop fun with this pic and am posting some variations at my second site. Please stop over and let me know what you think.

Green house

Here is one of Terrells older homes. The owners of the house have been working hard to fix it up over the last year. The house used to have a large porch that wrapped around the front and side. There is a house next door that is a mirror image of this one. It also needs some work, but it does have the porch.

Wind sailing on Lake Ray Hubbard

The temperature yesterday was a record high. It was 84F. A major winter cold front is coming in today, so by tomorrow morning the temperature will be in the 40s F. I think the photo shows wind sailing, but I am not sure if that's the right name. They are on Lake Ray Hubbard any time there is a wind. I think yesterday may be the last time they are on the lake for a while.

Downtown reflections

I said yesterday I would try my hand at a reflection picture. Here ya go. Terrells downtown area is only one street, Moore Ave. This is the American National Bank building with the reflections of the buildings from across the street.

Moore Ave. from the median

I was going to post a picture of the buildings on Moore reflecting off the American National Bank building, but I think I will save that till tomorrow.

Here is a picture of Moore Ave. looking east from the median. You can see the old Iris Theatre on the right, that was featured a few days ago.

Overcast morning

I like getting up early and going out with my camera on weekends. Yesterday morning was overcast with a few sprinkles. I got this picture of the sunrise. This is looking from the south of downtown to the southeast.

Yesterday was another road trip. I have posted pictures of the trip on my second site. Yesterdays trip to us to Yantis, Texas.

Dentist office

I like going to the dentist as much as the next guy, but do they have to keep their light on and the shades open at night? My teeth hurt just driving past.

The dentist who works in this office is very good. I have been there a few times. He's kinda pricey though.

Bridge with a view

Driving home takes me over Lake Ray Hubbard in Rockwall, TX. A few days ago traffic was at a stand still on the bridge. I got this picture from the interstate while stopped. Normally I speed past this at 65mph.

Books and Crannies at night

I went out last night looking to take a picture of the moon because the sky was so clear. I wanted to get it as a background to something else Who wants to see a picture of just the moon? The picture I am posting is not really the one I wanted, but I like how it turned out, well the street light could be placed somewhere else. Books and Crannies is a new and used bookstore in Terrells downtown area. Its in the first floor of the old Iris Theatre.

Memories from a photo

I have been trading emails with Mr. Jim Miller, Terrell High class of 58 and webmaster of TerrellHigh.com. Some of the pictures I have posted have brought back memories of his time in Terrell. He has been kind enough to share his stories with me. I love reading about what Terrell used to look like and how buildings have changed over the years.

The picture I posted the other day, the railroad car in the park, brought another story and memory from Mr. Miller. This one just as neat as the others.

Mr. Millers Grandfather, Arthur Clement Miller, was master mechanic for Midland Railroad. He also designed and supervised the construction of the coach used by Col. Green.

He sent a picture that his Mother had given him, and that’s my picture of the day, even though its not very new and wasn’t taken by me. It’s a picture of the coach with Col. Green and his son are to the right of the steps. Mr. Millers Grandfather is just to the left of the steps. If you look closely you can see an arrow pointing to his Grandfather.

He is not sure the coach in the picture is the same coach that’s in the park. I will have to take a closer look the next time I am in the park. It doesn’t really matter. The coach in the park is unique and the memory and picture from Mr. Miller, is fascinating. One day I will share his other memories.

I found an article from the New York Times about Col. Green and his mother. The story is a PDF file of the original published in 1916.

I hate spiders

I found this yesterday while out picking up pecans. They are around every year. I am told they are good spiders, that they eat a lot of bugs. All I know is they are big, the web is think and they are creepy.

Time for pecan picking

Back in September I posted a picture of one of our pecan trees and I mentioned that it looked like a great year. It has been so far. Today is a windy day and I am headed out to pick up todays haul. You can hear them hitting the ground.

I created a second blog page to post pictures that don't make it to the this site. I have already posted a few pictures that were stored on my computer. I posted my attempt to take pictures of hummingbirds, but no one can take them like Old Man Lincoln. I also created a message board in hopes of connecting with people who have an interest in Terrell. Not sure how the message board will turn out, we will have to wait and see.

With the change in time, the sun sets on the way home from work. I got this one yesterday just outside of Terrell.

Midland Railroad #993 El Paso Rail Car

The following is taken directly from the Terrell Chamber of Commerce website.

The private car of E.H.R. “Ned” Green, President of the Midland Railroad, is on display in Ben Gill Park.

Green was the son of the notorious “Witch of Wall Street” Hetty Green, a gilded age multi-millionaire. He was a prominent citizen of Terrell and served as state Republican Party Chairman in 1896. Green took Texas’ first gasoline-powered motorcar trip in 1899.

The collection in the rail car commemorates the rail company, once headquartered in Terrell, and its colorful president.

The rail car is usually open during the Terrell Heritage Festival in April. The car is covered to protect it against the elements and extend its life.

Birds everywhere

Its that time of year. Birds are everywhere. The are on top of buildings, power lines, trees, any open space.

Blondie and Bam Bam

Here are two of my dogs, Blondie on the left and Bam Bam on the right. They are sitting there waiting for me to say COME HERE, then its on.

Archway

Here is a beautiful archway in Terrell. Not sure anyone would be able to walk under it though.

Terrells newest coffee shop

Koffee Kake, Terrells newest coffee shop has opened on North Rockwall. Looks like a nice relaxing spot.

Putt Putt anyone?

Anyone remember playing miniature golf as a kid? Anyone still play? Terrell has Fun City Golf & Games. It looks fun and not very expensive.

Texas Lottery

In Texas we have a State lottery. You can find stores with the neon light in the window like the one below. I love playing the lottery, specifically scratch off tickets. Does anyone else have a Government sponsored lottery? Has anyone won anything big?

November 1st progress on Moore Ave.

In August I posted pictures of a building on Moore Ave. that was under renovation. Here is the same building today. Its starting to look real nice. I can't wait to see what its going to look like when finished.
