This is only the back of the buildings on Moore St, but I like to look at it and try to imagine what Terrell looked like 100 years ago. If I stood at the same spot 100 years ago, how different would the view be?

no power lines? Seguin's burying our lines underground near the square and it looks so much nicer. I wish they could do it all over town. Make's taking pictures nice b/c there's no obstructions. :)
That white building wouldn't have been there.
How thought provoking, Jim. And you've got the railroad tracks, too. I'm assuming they've always been in the same place. 1907--that sounds so weird when you think of 100 years ago in that way, doesn't it?
Thanks for you swell comment today! I'm off to eat my oatmeal.
Jim you may have captured something almost extinct. Over on the right side, in the railroad right of way, your may have a no longer used pole holding insulators that once held wires. The system of 24 or so exposed wires was abandoned back in the 60s.
Originally, one wire once carry only one voice conversation, Western Tnion Telegraph communications, or railroad signal crossing information. No longer seen, buried fiber optics bundles, now carry many simultaneous communications on a single fiber strand.
Until the late 60s the wires ran mile after mile along the railroad. The old steel wires were stolen for scrap or gathered up as they fell from the insulators. When commuting to Dallas, each morning, I noticed new locations along H-80 where thieves had pulled down the lines and then cut off a high as they could reach. The wire they couldn’t reach or pull down was left hanging from the poles.
Best regards to all
Maybe just on open field!!
Nice shot...like the powder clouds in the background.
Have you any old photos from 100 yrs ago??
My ABC is now up.
also next post =they are real
Is there any local museum or Historical Society, where you might find one?

I bet that it the feel of buildings sitting in an open prairie was much the same 100 years ago.
Jim, I love the old photos, too...and comparing them to what is in that same place now. Someday, years from now, maybe someone will be using your photo archive as a "comparison" of days gone by.
I've always had more fun taking pictureas of the back-side of down town Van Buren. There's nothing to hide back there, and it's been kept from being covered with modern work.
Neat shot, neat commentary... I have only one other thing to say:
"Quick Mr. Peabody, into the WayBack machine!"
Interesting question! I imagine the streets would be dirt and very muddy when it rains. There would be horses and wagons perhaps and horse waste to try not and step upon! Now, aren't you glad you live in the 21st Century!
I do the same thing! There are times when we drive around that I wonder how the Civil War soldiers ever made it through the fields and hills and all around here. . . .especially those without shoes or boots.
Very cool and evocative shot.
