Kind of a big deal

Just a bridge, but I think a bridge over Moore Ave and the RR tracks has been talked about for decades. This morning there will be a dedication ceremony on the bridge, and on the 22nd it will open to regular traffic.

I was THAT person...

Saturday morning was the That Dam Lake Texoma 5K run.  Knowing how fast, or slow, I am, I usually start in the back.  I hate the people that start at the very front, then when the horn blows, they start off walking or jogging very slow.

Well Saturday, I decided I wanted to be in the front.  So, I wobbled my way up to the front and waited for the GO signal.  As soon as it started, I felt a rush.....not a 'let's do this rush', but a rush of people passing me as I slowly jogged my way from the starting line.  I learned my lesson, never start near the front again.

I jumped out right before the start and took this picture.

Overnight Freeze Warning

It was supposed to dip into the upper 20s last night.  I noticed they put this sign up on the bridge that isn't open yet.  But it wont be long now.

Remembering Our Fallen

A traveling exhibit is currently on display at the Terrell Performing Arts Center.  Remembering Our Fallen, is a photo display honoring our military who have died from wounds suffered in a war zone since Sept. 11, 2001. The Terrell exhibit consists of men and women from Texas.  Terrell has lost 5 young men to the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. I visited last night and took the time to look at ever picture and name.   The Terrell Tribune has a great slideshow posted on their Facebook page of a ceremony held Sunday.

TARA baseball tournament

This weekend was the season ending TARA baseball tournament.  I visited and took pictures for a couple of hours yesterday.  Three games going on at the same time was fun.

Football season ends

Last night was the final football game of the year for the Tigers.  We said goodbye to the seniors, then the team went out and had fun. They didn't win the game, but they all showed class and good sportsmanship.

A break in the rain

We need all the rain we can get, the last two days have been nice.  Nothing heavy, just a light rain.

The fall baseball season ended yesterday with North Forney beating Forney in the championship game.  I was able to watch Terrell play their second game yesterday and NF play part of their first game.  More pictures are posted on the Facebook page from each game.

Time Waster

Prayers to the families who lost loved ones in the shootings yesterday in Terrell.  I live about 3 blocks from one of the crime scenes.  I listened to everything as it was happening on the scanner.  Thankfully the shooter was captured without incident around 1:30 this morning.

Pumpkin Skills

I do not have one artistic bone in my body, but I like my STL carved pumpkin.  The World Series starts tomorrow night.  You can guess my pick to win.

Homecoming

Tonight is Homecoming for the Terrell Tigers football team.  Last night, Terrell ISD had a walking parade and pep rally at the football stadium.  I don't think I can remember when they have had any type of parade for homecoming.  It was fun, all schools and sports were involved. I don't know what the joke was, but it must have been good.

Fighting Tiger Band shines at Regionals

The Terrell Fighting Tiger Band performed last night in Mesquite at the UIL Region 3 marching competition.  They came away with a score of 1 which is great.  They moved on to the Area C competition on October 26 also at Mesquite Memorial Stadium.

Fair Day

Yesterday was the annual trip to the State Fair of Texas.  The threat of rain (it did) and the absence of the Marine Corps Band had me leaving my camera at home.  I took a few shots with my iPhone.

Forney Combat fund raiser

Last night the Forney Combat team held a fund raiser at the local Sweet Frog.  Forney Combat is made up of firefighters who compete against other teams in real life challenges.  The team recently qualified for the World Challenge in Las Vegas later this month.  I got there a little late, but I made my contribution by purchasing two raffle tickets for tickets to an upcoming Dallas Cowboys game and I was able to get a shot of one of the guys from the team.

Homecoming week

Today starts Homecoming week for the Terrell Tigers. Thursday is a big parade, pep rally and Friday night is the football game against Forney. Today's picture is courtesy of Cathy Turner Boyd.  She posted this last night on Facebook. The football field is in the center of the shot, a baseball field is where a car dealership now sits.

Around noon yesterday the temperature dropped about 10 degrees in just a few minutes.  We were in the 60s the rest of the day.  It was nice.

Cheer and Tigerette night

Last night was cheer and Tigerette night at the football game. The Tigers lost, but the little cheerleaders had fun going out on the field before the game cheering with the Tiger cheerleaders.

Tonight the Tigers host the Wranglers from West Mesquite.  Last night the Freshmen A team play West Mesquite and the Freshmen B team played North Forney.

Tigers Freshmen B team quarterback JP Black tried to escape from the North Forney defenders.

Bring on Fall

It's starting to get dark earlier, but it's still 90 degrees.

Tiger Tennis

I don't get the chance to take pictures of the tennis team because they usually start before I'm home from work.  Yesterday I made sure I made it over to the park before they finished.

They played the Creekview Mustangs.  I like the shadow from the Mustang player in this bottom shot.

Move it

Terrible time to run out of gas.

OK, the train was stopped and I still had gas. I just caught this as I was passing over the tracks...details, details.
