Sunday morning shower

We got a nice shower yesterday morning.  The weatherperson said we better enjoy it, it may be a while before we get any more.  After the rain had stopped the remaining clouds looked neat.

Today is the Terrell Athletic Booster Club annual golf tournament.  I'll be out there with my camera.  It will be hot, but should be fun.  In addition to the tourney, they are going to have a golf ball drop.  They put numbered golf balls in a bucket and drop them from a helicopter.  Whoever holds the number of the ball that lands closest to the hole or in the hold wins.  The prize is at least $1000.  A second prize will be awarded to the ball that lands farthest from the hole.  That prize is $500.

Amber Carrington makes a hometown visit

Amber Carrington, a contestant on the NBC singing show The Voice made it to the top 5 this week and got to make the trip back to Rockwall for a hometown visit.  Amber made her entrance on the Seawolf from Sail with Scott.  She was presented a key to Rockwall and sang two songs.  After thanking everyone for coming out and encouraging them to keep voting, she signed autographs and finally made her way out again on the Seawolf.

Amber had a lot of fans there, this was the largest crowd for the Concert by the Lake that I've seen.  Her hometown visit should be on the Monday show.

Terrell and British friendship

A new painting has gone up in Terrell. It is a depiction of a map hanging on the wall at the No. 1 British Flying Training School.

During WWII, British cadets trained in Terrell.  To mimic Britain and Europe an overlay was placed over a map of Texas and Oklahoma.  On the overlay, Terrell served as London.

A mural was placed on a building last year in Terrell, this painting is on the same building.

End of year softball game

Last night was the Kennedy Elementary school teachers vs parents softball game.  The parents won the game, but I think the real winners were the kids.

Patriot Half in the books

Yesterday was the 2nd running of The Patriot Half Marathon and 5K Race for Nate.  I ran the half, using the word 'ran' liberally.  I've been having some knee issues, so.......my time wasn't very good.  The course was a little different than last year.  It went though more of the residential areas of Rockwall that are hilly.  The run was fun from start to end, but did I mention the hills?  The weather was overcast and windy most of the run.  The wind felt good as long as you weren't trying to run into it.  I think by the time I hit the hills at mile 7, I did say there were hills right, I was pooped.  I wanted to walk the rest of the way, but the runners around me and the spectators wouldn't let me walk for long.  Around mile 10 I caught a second wind and starting running a little more.  I caught up to a group of runners who had constantly stayed ahead of me.  That made me fell a little better about my race, but I knew my time would suck.  My iPhone died right after I passed mile 11.  Going the last few miles without music helped, but I wouldn't want to run the entire way without anything. I'm not sure of my exact finish time, but it was around 2:56, not good at all, slower than my slowest time by over 10 minutes.  Even with the slow time, I still loved it.  The race it produced by the Rockwall Running Center, who did a fantastic job from start to finish. Registration for the 2014 run is supposed to open today.  If it does, I'll be signed up.

Spring football

Terrell wrapped up their spring practice with a scrimmage last night.  I think it was just enough football to hold me over till 7 on 7 starts.  This year Terrell will have a team playing in the North Forney league starting on June 4th.
