My first car

Nah, that that bucket of bolts blue car in the center of the picture, who would want that it doesn't even have a roof. My first car was a Nova, the car pictured behind this one.  Mine wasn't quite as nice as that one.  Mine was missing the head liner, 3 hub caps and had a rag for a gas cap...but it ran.

Weekend's over

Today is back to work for me.  I took an extra day off to recover from the half marathon on Monday.  The next race is the Gladiator Games on June 16th.  That's a 6K mud run that will be held in Terrell.  Join us by registering at the link to the right.  In July training will start for the Marine Corps Marathon in October in D.C.

Yesterday was primary day in Texas.  Since Texas is pretty much a one party state (Republican) most races were decided yesterday or in the runoff on July 31st.  The biggest race in Kaufman County was for State Rep District 4, which includes more than just Kaufman Co.  Incumbent Lance Gooden held off primary challenger Stuart Spitzer 53%-46%.  Several other races will go to a run off on July 31st.

I'm not really into flower photography, but I like this one.  Sunday June 3rd will be the 5th anniversary for Terrell Daily Photo.

Patriot Half

Yesterday was the Patriot Half Marathon in Rockwall.  It was my 3rd half and I got a personal record by over a minute.  It was the largest road race ever in Rockwall.  Coach Barrett and the Rockwall Running Centers staff and volunteers did an excellent job.  I look forward to running it again next year.

Black Eyed Susan

Just a couple of more work days until the long weekend.  There are a lot of events going on, including the Patriot Half Marathon in Rockwall on Monday.  I'll probably look like this flower when next Tuesday rolls around, a little weathered.

Terrell ISD has a page set up for the Terrell Athletics Tiger Hall of Fame, including the names of all HOF members.  Nominations are open for the HOF class of 2012.  They must be postmarked by July 31, 2012.  The Hall of Fame game will be October 12, 2012.

Terrell's Sears home

I'm always checking the internet for anything Terrell related and every once in a while I find something neat.  Yesterday, I read a post by Rose Thornton, she looking for a picture of a Sears home that was built in Terrell in the early 1900s.  I knew just the house she was talking about.  Rose had the early history of the home including a few photos, but she was looking for a current photo.  So, as soon as I got home from work yesterday, I hightailed it over and got a picture for her.

The information below came from Rose about the home.  Be sure to check out her website Sears Modern Homes. For more history on this home and other Sears homes from around the country.

Summer baseball

I drove over to Ben Gill on Sunday and watched one of the summer league teams from Terrell playing ball.  It was hot out, but one of the parents made homemade ice cream it hit the spot.

Waxahachie is the last 15-4A team remaining in the high school baseball playoffs.  They take on Frisco Wakeland beginning Thursday.

Four more work days left till the long weekend!  Next Monday is the Patriot Half Marathon in Rockwall.  You still have time to register, follow the link on the right.  They have over 800 runners signed up.  I can't wait.

Free to Breathe

Another day, another 10K.  Sunday was the Free to Breathe 5K, 10K & Fun Run.  Free to Breathe races are held all over the country to raise funds and raise lung cancer awareness.  My company, USA Mobility Wireless was one of the sponsors of yesterdays race and a coworker was on the planning committee.  I hope they are proud of the work they put into the morning.  They had over 500 runners finish the 5K & 10K and I think I heard them say they raised over $80,000.  A job well done.

Here is a large gallery of pictures from the Free to Breathe Dallas runs courtesy of Facesbyme.com

Skywatch Friday

The skies have been clear the last few days.  Not a cloud in sight.  It makes for nice running weather, but we are going to need some rain soon.  Notice that gas has gone down the $3.45?

More Skywatch Friday sites are here.

Don J. shows us how they make those fancy magazine covers on his site.  Check it out here, and if you think it looks cool, leave him a comment.

It's that time again

Early voting has started in Texas for the primary. I'll probably early vote today after work. It seems that with each election the tone gets worse, and this is just a primary.

The high school baseball playoffs resume tonight.  The 15-4A schools still playing in the Regional Quarterfinals are Red Oak, Corsicana and Waxahachie.  Red Oak plays Whitehouse and Corsicana and Waxahachie play each other.

Looking to adopt a pet?  Have you checked the Terrell Pet Adoption Centers page?

Run For The Wall riders will pull into Terrell on Sunday morning.  It's always an impressive sight to watch them.  I'll be running in Plano on Sunday morning and will miss it this year.  If you go, send me a picture and I'll post it for you.

Ham Orchards opens to big crowds

Ham Orchards open for business this past weekend, so a trip was needed to taste test the peach ice cream.  I am pleased to report it passed, but it didn't last long enough to get a picture.  Another taste test may be required. They are open through August 15th.  The big yellow poles are new this year, I guess they don't like people driving through the front doors.

Want to be a guest poster, blogger or photographer?  Send me an email jimklenke@terrelldailyphoto.com

There is always a line for the ice cream, but it moves fast.

Five & Dime Run

I ran a 10 mile race yesterday at Winfrey Point.  It was the inaugural Five & Dime Run be Mellew productions. My goal was to finish in less than 2 hours.  I finished in just under 1:57! The long distances are practice for the half marathon in Rockwall on Memorial Day.  Next weekend its a pair of 10K races.  One on Saturday, another on Sunday.

A 50s band provided entertainment after yesterdays race.

Last week I wrote about plans to mow over Winfrey Point so the Arboretum could have a temporary parking lot.  It looks like the board of the Arboretum had a change of heart and will not mow.

Happy Mothers Day!

Company bake sale

I think company bake sales are evil!  But it was for a good cause, raising funds for the Free to Breathe run later this month.  Thank goodness I am running a 10 mile race this morning.  I need to work off a few extra pounds I gained.  Can you pick out what I brought?

Trustees softball

Softball season has been going on for a while, but yesterday was the first chance I had to go out and watch the Trustees play.

Tonight, Terrell senior Carnell Horn will run the 400 meter finals at the State UIL Track and Field Championships in Austin.  The weather in Austin is supposed to be rain and thunderstorms.  Lets hope for a dry track and good running conditions.  His race is scheduled to start just before 8PM.

Yu vs Pu, CJ vs Josh tonight.

Today our Free to Breathe team is holding a bake sale at work to raise funds for lung cancer awareness.  I am such an outstanding baker........I am taking a jar of pickles.  They will sell each one for $1.

If you would like to make a donation, follow the link below.

Say cheese

I'm loving my new iPhone, but I still have some work to do on using the camera.

Congratulations to Monty "Doc" Montgomery, Terrell head athletic trainer and JV baseball coach, he has been selected to be the trainer for the North All-Stars in the Texas High School Baseball Associations (THSBA) 4A-5A baseball game.  The game is held each year in June at Dell Diamond in Round Rock, TX.

Over 700 runners have signed up for the Patriot Half  Marathon in Rockwall, TX on Memorial Day.  Have you signed up yet?  They also have a 5K run, if you are not ready for the half yet.

Green light

Is it really necessary to paint crosswalks during the middle of the day? Green light means GUN IT!

If you watched Fox 4 news last night you may have seen the story about Ariana Luterman, the young triathlete that competes to raise money for Vogel Alcove.  She was featured here in a post on May 1st, after the Spring/Fall Classic.  I even saw my pictures I posted on the news last night. Below is the link to the story.

Next week is National Police Week.  Tuesday May 15th, the Terrell Police Department will hold a memorial service to honor the two officers who lost their lives while on duty with the TPD.  A plaque will be presented to the Terrell Police Department by the Terrell Police Academy Alumni Association for each of the two officers to be permanently displayed at the station.  The service begins at 10AM in the City Council Chambers and the public is encouraged to attend.

Are you a golfer?  Get a foursome together on June 11th and join the Terrell Athletic Booster Club at Twin Lakes Golf Course in Canton, TX for their golf tournament.  Door prizes and hole-in-one prizes will be awarded along with other giveaways.  You can still become a sponsor of a hole. Contact Cary Harwell-Tournament Director, or Coach Stooksberry-Event Coordinator for more info.
