Tigers JV practice

Thursday night was varsity, Friday night the JV team was able to practice and scrimmage. The visiting team from DeSoto got lost on the way to the park so the JV Tigers were able to get a few more minutes hitting.

Sunday a few pictures from the scrimmage.

Friday bonus

A few more shots from the baseball scrimmage between Terrell and Kaufman. Over 40 pictures have been uploaded to the Terrell Daily Photo Facebook fan page.

Skywatch Friday- Baseball, finally!

I have been waiting for baseball season since last years playoffs. The regular season hasn't started yet, but the Tigers did scrimmage against the Kaufman Lions last night. How could I resist not making my Skywatch Friday picture from the field. Click to enlarge.

More Skywatch Friday sites are here.

I will post a few more baseball shots from last night in my Friday bonus post later today.

I got nothing

I am ready for the day to be over, and it hasn't even started yet.

This was taken yesterday afternoon in Ben Gill Park with the camera on my Blackberry.

I added yesterdays girls soccer pictures and a few extras to the Terrell Daily Photo Facebook page. Click the link on the right.

Am I the only person who could care less what Tiger Woods has to say?

Lady Tigers soccer

The Lady Tigers traveled to Forney Tuesday night to face the North Forney Falcons. Terrell dominated the match winning 5-0.

It's still cold but things are looking up

The white stuff is gone, but it's still cold.

I went running down at the park after work, I can't match Brian running 20 minutes straight yet, but I was able to run 16 minutes, going 3-5-5-3 with 2 minutes of walking between each run.

I wasn't about to get out of the car to get a photo after dark though. This is Moore Ave from the car.

I am not much of a Texas A&M fan, but they gave #1 Kansas a run last night in men's basketball. I was pulling for the Aggies.

Pitchers and catchers report this week! I would love to be able to shoot a MLB game.

If the weather holds, we should be able to get some local sporting events in this week. The boys home soccer match against Kaufman has been moved to this Thursday night and the varsity baseball team is tentatively scheduled to scrimmage against Kaufman also on Thursday.

Last night I told myself that I was going to bed early, before I knew it it was running up on 11PM. Saying I am going to bed early is like saying I am going to work late. Once it gets close to time to go home, I say never mind I'll work late tomorrow.

Facebook seemed to be having problems yesterday. If you didnt get a chance to see the pictures from the snow storm, click the Terrell Daily Photo Facebook Fan page.

Monday bonus

Lets hope we have seen the last of the snow for the season.

Monday Morning Mashup

Most of the snow is gone and its time to go back to work....joy. Today is also trash day. Since we were without power from 8:30AM Friday to sometime early AM Saturday morning, the contents of our fridge will be sitting by the curb. We got it easy Cilla was without power for 60.5 hours.

This is from Friday morning.

Exciting finish to the Daytona 500 yesterday, I was worried that Dale Jr. was going to pull it out at the end. I am glad he didn't. I wonder how many people started drinking when the race started, got tipsy, sobered up, and got drunk again before the race finished. That was an all day race.

Next year can the half time entertainment for the NBA All-Star game please lip sync or get someone who can sing half decent live? The game was fun to watch though, with a close ending.

Early primary voting starts Tuesday in Texas. Vote, but research the candidates first.

From what I have been able to find out, the Tigers boys basketball team had senior night Saturday night in a game that was postponed from Friday night. The Tigers lost a close game to Forney. The boys final game of the year is Tuesday night in Lancaster.

We went and saw Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lighting Thief Saturday night. It was a fun movie. They showed a trailer for Dairy of a Wimpy Kid, that looks like a funny movie. Click through the link and watch the trailer.

I posted over 40 pictures from the snow to the Terrell Daily Photo Facebook Fan page. Click the link to the right and become a fan.

Brian also has a Texas Daily Photo Facebook Fan page with his photos of the snow including the snow families found around town. Here is his page.

A long night

The snow knocked out power to our house Friday morning around 8AM. This is my street around 9AM yesterday. I think we ended up getting more snow than I first guessed. Power was out all night. I am posting this from Comfort Inn.

Skywatch Friday-Snow kidding

I don't know how much snow we got in Terrell, Texas, but I would guess 7"-8". Normally when we get snow its an inch maybe two and is gone within a few hours. At times it looked like the snow flakes were as larger as quarters. Not much sky to see.

Other Skywatch Friday sites can be found here.

Snowman fun

Terrell ISD has announced that district schools will be closed tomorrow February 12, 2010.

Thursday bonus-Snow Day

This is my front yard at 7AM this morning and its still snowing. Thankfully the temperature has stayed close to freezing and the roads are not that bad yet.

Saturdays Varsity Tigers baseball scrimmage with Rockwall and Lake Highlands has been cancelled.

Upward Basketball

During half time of the Lady Tigers basketball game, the crowd was treated to a game of basketball by the Upward players.

From the Upward website:

Upward, the world’s largest Christian sports program for children, was created with a vision to provide the best sports experience possible for every child. Each year some 1 million people around the world play, coach, referee, or volunteer in Upward sports leagues and camps hosted by more than 2,600 churches. Anyone – children and volunteers of any faith or no faith – can participate in Upward sports. Specifically designed for children in K5- sixth grade, Upward aims to bring out “the winner” in every child – regardless of the game’s score.

Here are some of the pictures from Tuesday nights fun.

Make it stop

It has been cold and rainy for what feels like weeks. We are suppose to get a break from the rain, but not the cold.........and its suppose to snow Thursday. The weather has already cause the cancellation of the Terrell baseball scrimmage that was scheduled for today. Its probably only a matter of a day or so before the scrimmages scheduled for Saturday are cancelled.

I added photos from the 2009 Terrell Photo Walk to the Terrell Daily Photo Facebook fan page. Click the link to the right and become a fan.

I wonder what they would say if Kyle Busch did this? This will be Kyles year, starting with this weekends Daytona 500.

Monday bonus

Choctaw Casino in Durant doesn't officially open their new casino until Tuesday at 6PM, but they did open the doors early. So we made the trip up Sunday. It really does look like a Vegas resort. I can't wait to stay in the hotel.

Monday Morning Mashup

World Champion New Orleans Saints. Sounds good. What a game yesterday. It's sad one team had to lose, I like them both. To be honest, I only watched the last few minutes. My Monday Bonus post will explain why.

Saturday night we went to the Terrell Bowling Center, first time in 10 years. I forgot how much fun bowling is. My high out of 4 games was 189.

The Terrell Tigers baseball team is suppose to begin scrimmaging this week, but the weather will probably change those plans. It seems this happens every year. Here is the full varsity baseball schedule.

The boys and girls basketball teams play their final home games of the year this week. Senior night for the girls is Tuesday night. Parents night for the boys is Friday night.

Brian has some neat shots of Terrells past posted at Texas Daily Photo.

Check back after noon for the Monday Bonus Post.

Big Game Sunday

They say the kicker is the loneliest guy on the football team. Lets hope Garrett Hartley is the hero again. Saints 34-31.

This guy was out by himself practicing kickoffs yesterday in Ben Gill Park.

My moon

I was outside early this morning and noticed how clear the sky was and how nice the moon looked. Its not a full moon, but half will do.

Skywatch Friday-Water Tank

The Terrell boys basketball team is home tonight to face Red Oak. The boys soccer team is scheduled to play at home tonight against Forney. Field conditions may force a change of plans.

Thursday Afternoon Post

Tonight Kaufman County Republicans will hold their 2nd candidate forum in Forney at the 1st Baptist Church starting at 7pm.

If you are into politics, its worth checking out and getting to know the candidates before early voting starts.

Above is Lance Gooden who is running a strong campaign to unseat Betty Brown in the Texas State House. The picture was taken at the 1st forum held in Terrell last month.

Rain and baseball fever

It seems just as soon as the ground starts to dry out we get more rain.

I know the Super Bowl is this weekend and the Winter Olympics start soon, but I am ready for Terrell Tiger baseball.

I was looking through my old baseball pictures and found the first picture baseball I posted. It was posted in March 2008. The game was Forney against Terrell. It was only 2 years ago, but I think it was 4 or 5 cameras ago. I hope I show some improvement this year.

This was originally posted on March 29, 2008.

hump day news

Just a few thoughts while I am on my lunch break. No Wednesday bonus picture.

Today is national letter of intent day for high school football players. Terrell had one player sign on the dotted line.

I am not sure who got more face time during lost last night, Locke on the show or Nolan Ryan during the commercials.

I went back to the park last night to start running again. I'm still working on the couch to 5k program. Last night I ran for 2 minutes then walked for 1 1/2 minutes 4 times. I ran for 3 minutes on the last cycle. Its not much, but its a start. My knees were pain free during and after the run.

Anderson Building

This building is on the NE corner of Moore and Adelaide. Its home to Hard Bodies Gym.

A couple of weeks ago Blair Lindsey Sitzes created a Facebook group called "You Know You're From Terrell When....". The group now has 1678 members! I didn't grow up in Terrell but I enjoy reading about Terrell's history. I have learned about businesses that are no longer around, read stories about what teenagers did for fun years ago and found out that at one time Terrell had 3 Dairy Queens. Brian and I have been posting some of our pictures to the site and have enjoyed reading memories that people have of the old buildings. Maybe my picture today will stir some memories.

Tuesday Bonus-Tigers get a tough district

The Texas UIL announced their football and basketball realignment yesterday morning. Terrell was placed into a 9 team district that includes new opponents Waxahachie, Ennis and Corsicana along with holdovers West Mesquite, Forney, Poteet, Red Oak and Lancaster.

Non district games will be against Kaufman and Greenville.

Terrell Nike missile site control area

Last April I took a few pictures of the control area of the abandoned Nike Missile site that was in Terrell during the early part of the cold war. I wanted to make another trip out to the site with my new camera and zoom lens.

Here is what I posted about the site in April 2009.

Part of Terrell's unique history is its place as host to a Nike Missile site during the 1960's. Terrell was one of four missile sites that ringed Dallas. The other three sites were in Denton, Mineral Wells and Alvarado. The purpose of the missile site was to protect Dallas-Fort Worth area from Soviet bombers. The missile site was divided into two areas. One was the launching area, that area is private property that is hidden from street view. The other is the control area. Today's photos are whats left of the control area. The area is private property, so the pictures were taken from the street through a fence. It would be neat to be able to walk around the grounds of this and the launching area. Maybe someday a marker will be put up explaining what the site was for. I am sure what's left of the site will be gone in a few more years.

My trip out to the site on Sunday was a bit of a surprise. It looks like they are going to improve the road where the control area is located. The fence surrounding the area had been pulled back and part of the area looks like its being used for storage. It did cross my mind that since the fence was down, I could walk up to the area and get pictures. The second picture explains why I didn't try to get a closer look, and its still private property. I am not sure if whats left of the site will survive the new road.

My reason for not trying to get closer is pictured below.

Monday bonus

Gary has a post on his site that fits my Monday Bonus perfect. I was driving home yesterday and noticed a big cloud of smoke near my house. I drove over and noticed a truck had caught on fire, but I was just a bit late.

Its easy to overlook the job our firefighters do for us in Terrell. One of my goals this year is to photograph them on the job. Both TFD and TVFD.

Monday Morning Mashup

It was a good weekend for Tiger sports teams. The boys and girls basketball and soccer teams won. I posted over 2 dozen soccer pictures from Saturdays afternoon game on the Terrell Daily Photo Facebook Fan page. I love taking sports shots during the day. Friday night the boys soccer and basketball teams both play games at home.

February 1st already. Today is the City Daily Photo Theme Day. The theme this month is wood. Click here to view thumbnails for all Theme Day participants.

I watched the Grammys last night. Funny moment after the performance from Lil Wayne, Eminem and Drake that was edited and censored. They showed a pop up to purchase tonight's performances from itunes. I wonder if that would include the dead air during the trios song? Bon Jovi, Stevie Nicks and Mary J. Blige all sounded great. Stevie would have been better minus Taylor Swift.

The Warrior Dash race in Forney has added a second day on May 2nd. Click on the icon to the right for more information.

If you want to vote in the upcoming primaries, today is the last day to register.

Feeling lucky? Then try your luck at Powerball. Sales start today in Texas and your chance to win the jackpot is only 1 in 195,249,054.

Lost starts tomorrow, I spent yesterday afternoon watching last seasons finale with Brian.
