Spring/Fall Classic Sprint Triathlon

This is what you look like after swimming 1/2 mile, biking 24 miles and then running a 5K.  I wish I looked this good after running just a 5K.  Results for the race are here.   Big Earth Racing, does an outstanding job putting on the race at Lake Tawakoni.  Their next triathlon will be August 19th (my birthday). Brian and I both were out there taking pics.  Lots of photos from the race on the Terrell Daily Photo Facebook page and Texas Daily Photo Facebook page.

Relaxing Saturday

This is the last weekend to relax before starting to run more getting ready for the Patriot Half Marathon on Memorial day in Rockwall.   They posted on Facebook that they have 500 runners signed up so far.  A great number for this being the first year.

Skywatch Friday

The sunrise has been bright the last few days.  It's going to be a hot summer.  Other Skywatch Friday sites are here.

The Terrell Tigers will travel for a final baseball game tonight in Ennis.  It will be the last game for four graduating seniors.  The team will miss the playoffs, but the improvement over last year is easy to see.  Next year will feature a new district and a team that will be full of seniors with varsity experience.  Expectations will be high.

Today is the final day to register for the Spring/Fall Classic Sprint Triathlon at Lake Tawakoni on Sunday morning.  Brian and I will be out there taking pictures again.

I didn't mention yesterday that Free to Breathe will be holding runs/walks across the country.  Check the main page for a race near you.

Bar-B-Que tasting is a sport

Bar-b-que at the Terrell Heritage Jubilee is a sport. Tasting includes brisket, beans, chicken, cobbler and pork ribs. Judges remind volunteer tasters to not touch the meat, don't talk about it and they are not there for lunch.

Terrell Athletic Director and Head Football Coach
Kevin Wilson, was just one of many judges at the bar-b-que cooking contest at the Terrell Heritage Jubilee.

There were 58 pit division teams and 46 local division teams.

The Grand Champion was Chris Griffith, Lil Earls's Butt Naked BBQ.

The Grand Champion in the Local Division was Robin Hollen, Two Dogs BBQ.

Click here for the complete results of each division.

Ham Bone Express

Pig races are always fun.  This was the 3rd year they have entertained the crowds at the Jubilee.

I may be wrong but I think Lindsey Loham beat Arnold Schwarzenpigger and Synnona Judd by a snout.

Wonderful weekend

The weather for the Jubilee this weekend was great.  We hit the 5K race, car show, pig races and BBQ tasting on Saturday.  We also visited the Terrell Pet Adoption Centers setup.  Cilla and the volunteers had 11 dogs adopted!

Here are two of the cars that caught my eye.

Sky high

I spent $4 and took a ride on the Ferris wheel at the Heritage Jubilee carnival last night.  This is about as high as I want to get.  Catch other Skywatch Friday sites here.  Brian caught me snapping away.

Here is a schedule of events for this years Terrell Heritage Jubilee.

The baseball Tigers close out their home schedule tonight against Lancaster.  This years Seniors will be honored before the game.

Fun starts Thursday

Thursday night the carnival gets underway at the Terrell Heritage Jubilee with family night offering unlimited rides for $30.  This is a shot from last years carnival.  Check the schedule of events, to see what catches your eye.  Some of the events I am going to be at is the Fountain 5K at the pavillion in Ben Gill park, I'll be taking pictures, not running and the BBQ cook-off.  Nothing better than getting a picture of someone eating messy ribs or chicken.  See you there!

Baseball is winding down

Baseball season is winding down for the Tigers.  They play tonight in West Mesquite, Friday night at home against Lancaster and close the year out on the 27th in Ennis.  I've taken some of the pictures from this year and made a picture for each varsity player.  I think they look pretty good for an amateur.

Double take

I've seen this a couple of times driving from Forney to Terrell.  That's an tractor trailer tipped up.  I guess they want to make sure they get everything out of the trailer.  One of these times, I'm going to try to get a better look at it.

The Heritage Jubilee is this weekend at Ben Gill park in Terrell.  The carnival will be pulling into town soon and the park will start filling up with BBQ smoker for the BBQ cookoff.  The early weather forecast for the weekend looks great.

Corsicana piles it on

Corsicana run ruled Terrell on Saturday 12-2 and won the District 15-4A Championship.  Corsicana is 14-0 in District, 21-7 overall and ranked #7 in Texas 4A. Texas A&M signee Hunter Melton hit a towering home run to left field in the first inning to give Corsicana the lead and they coasted from there.

Hard work and determination pay off

A few months ago the Terrell Animal Shelter started a transition to a no-kill shelter.  With the change came a name change, its now known as the Terrell Pet Adoption Center.  The change came the same time that Cilla Wichmann was made an Animal Control Officer.  Cilla has worked tirelessly to promote the center, help lost animals find their way home and find new homes for unwanted animals. In addition to those duties she also makes sure the sick and injured animals get proper vet care and checks on the animals on her days off and at night.  Check out the Facebook page and give it a 'like' to keep up to date with whats going on at the Center, and let the staff know what a great job they are doing.

Yesterday she posted some numbers for March 2012 vs March 2011.

Check out these numbers!
Dogs into the shelter 2012-39, 2011-61
Cats into the shelter 2012-10, 2011-9
Animals claimed by owner 2012-3, 2011-12
Animals adopted 2012-31, 2011-20
Animals rescued 2012-6, 2011-6
Animals euthanized 2012-2, 2011-41

You can find animals available for adoption and animals that have been adopted out on the Facebook page.

Here are a few of the dogs available for adoption as of 4/12/12. How can you say no to these faces?

The 2012 Terrell Tigers football schedule has been finalized. Under first year coach Kevin Wilson, Terrell will host four games in the first year of District 10-4A football.

Continuing yesterdays post, here are the winners of the Tal Morrison Classic 5K race.

Chris McMordie came in 1st overall in the 5K race.
Tiffany Hauerwas was 1st overall for the women in the 5K.
Below are the 2012 DRC Tal Morrison scholarship award winners.

Over 270 pictures are posted on the Terrell Daily Photo Facebook page. When I run, I'm normally bringing up the rear.  It was nice to see the winners cross the finish line.

If you are looking for a 5K run on April 21st the Volunteer Services Council of Terrell State Hospital will host the Fountain 5K at Ben Gill Park in Terrell as part of the Terrell Heritage Jubilee.  Register for the race here.  All proceeds from the 5K benefit the Volunteer Services Council of Terrell State Hospital.

2012 Tal Morrison 5K and 15K

Part of being a member of the Dallas Running Club is to volunteer at one or more of their races.  Yesterday, Brian and I fulfilled our obligation by helping out at the Tal Morrison 5K & 15K race.  My job was a tough one, I was tasked to take pictures.  I'm still going through them, but here are a couple of pictures of some of the racers.  Here are the results of the 5K and 15K
