Under the weather

I think I am coming down with something.  I knew I should have gotten that flu shot.

Rumors are circulating that Terrell will be in the market for a new Athletic Director/Head Football Coach.

Freeze warning

With a freeze warning issued for last night and early morning, this may be the last time the outdoor plants cast a shadow on my house.  It was cold yesterday, but at least the sun was out.

As the college football regular season comes to a close, it looks like LSU and Alabama will hook up again in the BCS Championship game in New Orleans.  Here are the bowl projections from CBS Sports.

Sunday, December 4th is the MetroPCS Dallas White Rock Marathon.  I'm not ready to run a marathon yet, but I will be running a relay leg with Brian and 3 others from work.  My leg of the race is 6.5 miles.

I remember going to Saint Louis Billikens basketball games in the late 70's, early 80's. They never were any good. This year they are off to a 6-0 start after winning the 76 Classic Basketball tournament in Anaheim, CA.  They should be ranked in the top 25 when rankings are released later today.

It looks like the NBA lockout is over.  Now starts the rumors and free agent signings. Will the Mavericks be able to re-sign Tyson Chandler?  Do they Mavs want to re-sign him?

City Bank Stadium in Forney will host at least one more high school football playoff game.  This Friday at 7:30PM Corsicana takes on Kilgore in the Class 4A, Division 2, Region II final.

Forney High School graduate Caleb Hanies first NFL starting for the Bears got off to a shaky start yesterday against Oakland.  He threw 3 interceptions but settled down threw 2 touchdown passes and almost led his team to a win.

Terrell High School graduate Brice McCain saved the game for the Houston Texans against the Jacksonville Jaguars.  With less than 2 minutes to go in the game the Jags were driving for the potential game tying touchdown when McCain broke up a pass to Mike Thomas.

WFAA the local ABC station in Dallas runs a fan feedback segment on their Sunday night sports show. Yesterday the question was who should win the Heisman Award this year.  I submitted my answer and they used it on the air.  I wrote that I wanted Robert Griffin III from Baylor to win, but Andrew Luck should win based just on numbers.  He also will win because Stanford has played on a bigger stage and had more attention this year than Baylor.

I got a jury summons in the mail for US District Court.  Its not one where I have to show up.  I am suppose to call in to see if I am needed the following day.  I dont mind serving on a jury, but the dates are Dec 16th-Dec 30th, over the Christmas holidays.  I submitted to get it postponed.

Today is the first day high school soccer teams can begin practicing.

Have a great Cyber Monday and week.

After the rain

We got a good soaking Friday night/Saturday morning.  As the rain clouds moved out, the temperature dropped.  We could use another soaking and make it last a few days.

Finished

I was able to catch a few runners crossing the finish line Thursday morning. I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving.

Skywatch Friday-Fogged in

One of the reasons I wanted to run the 8 mile Turkey Trot course in Dallas was the skyline view running back into Dallas.  Fog that didn't burn off till after noon prevented me from seeing the skyline.  It was still a fun race and I'll try again next year for a neat skyline picture.  Click the pictures to enlarge.

Starting line in sight

My view of the starting line at the YMCA Capital One Dallas Turkey Trot. The starting line is the arch in the thick fog.  Turkey Trot results can be found here.

Turkey Trot

I am off to run with 35,000 others in the YMCA Capital One Dallas Turkey Trot.  I hope to have a few pictures later this afternoon.

Happy Thanksgiving

Ben Gill

Cold, wet and foggy at Ben Gill

The boys and girls basketball teams are both in action tonight.  The ladies travel to Mesquite for their first district game against Poteet and the boys are at home for a non-district game against Mount Pleasant.  Tonisha Dean, who graduated last year from Terrell, looks to be a big part of the Conners State College basketball team.  Shes averaging 13 points for the Cowgirls who are off to a 4-4 start.

Rainy days and Mondays

Just as we were ending a 5 mile run yesterday, it started to rain. No complaints and I won't let it get me down, we need all we can get.

The latest BCS standings came out last night.  Houston moved up to #8.  The top 3 spots are SEC schools. #1 LSU hosts #3 Arkansas on the 25th.  Arkansas will have to play while dealing with the death of one of their players.  Most bowl projections have the BCS Championship game being a rematch between LSU and Alabama.

The Cowboys have climbed into a tie for 1st place in the NFC East.  Chicago Bears QB Jay Cutler will be out for a while taking care of a broken thumb.  Caleb Hanie, who graduated from Forney High School will take Cutlers place as the starting QB for the Bears. Can anyone beat the Packers?

Brian and I will be running in the YMCA Turkey Trot in downtown Dallas.  We ran the 5k race last year, in wet cold weather.  This year the weather is supposed to be better and we are going to run the 8 mile course.  Its not a race to run for time.  Its a race for fun.

Its time for open enrollment at work.  This year they are giving a discount to all tobacco free employees. I am so thankful that I quit smoking over 6 years ago.

Not OK.....or OK State

College football got turned upside down this weekend.  Four of the top 10 teams in the BCS standings lost, including #2 Oklahoma State and #5 Oklahoma.  Sitting at #11 is Conference USA leader Houston.  I don't think Houston will jump over all four teams, but they could move up to #8.  They don't have a chance to make the BCS Championship game, but I would like to see them play in one of the BCS bowls.

Griffin Lentsch from Division III Grinnell College in Iowa scored 89 points Saturday.

Only one 15-4A football team is still alive in the playoffs.  Corsicana beat Sulphur Springs on Friday night to advance to the third round against Frisco Centennial next Friday.  The game will be played in Midlothian.

Lancaster and Waxahachie both lost.

The Lady Tigers basketball team went 0-3 in the Highland Park Scot Tournament.  Their record is 0-5 but district play hasn't started yet.

Tigers no match for Timberview Wolves

The Terrell Tigers hosted 5A Mansfield Timberview last night.  The Tigers couldn't match up in speed or size and were never in the game.

The sky is the limit

Just another day or so of San Antonio.  It was a great weekend, every place we went we saw runners.  I read that the economic impact the race has on the city is over $40 million dollars.

The next big race is the 8 mile YMCA Dallas Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving morning.

In Terrell we got rain showers off and on last night.  I'll take waking up in the middle of the night to a heavy rain any night.

I am going to try to watch some high school basketball tonight.

Terrell HS graduate Brice McCain who currently plays for the Houston Texans recorded is second interception in last Sundays game.  His team sits atop the AFC South with a 7-3 record.  If they are going to make the playoffs they will have to do it without their starting QB Matt Schaub, who is out for the rest of the year due to a foot injury.

Terrell HS graduate Jherrod Stiggers, who is a Freshman on the University of Houston basketball team is out after surgery on his knee.  Hopefully, his recovery is swift and he can get back on the court.

Terrell has quite a few athletes playing on the collegiate level.  I am going to try to get updates, and track as many as I can.

I don't drink, but I am sure there are a few readers who are enjoying Dallas Beer Week.

Unexpected surprise

Yesterday was the San Antonio Veterans Day Parade. We got lucky and just happened to be in the right spot for viewing.   I enjoyed the ROTC and Jr. ROTC drill teams.

This morning Brian and I will join 30,000 others running in the San Antonio Rock and Roll 1/2 Marathon and Marathon.  We are both running the half.

Packet pickup

Race organizers for Sundays Rock n Roll half marathon and marathon expect 30,000 runners. Yesterday and today runners can pick up their packets and walk around the expo.

I was excited to just be able to walk around the floor of the Alamodome.

Its my Friday

and I am going to fly the coop for a few days.

This was flying outside our office yesterday.  They were moving equipment on and off the roof.  Its very loud when its close to the ground and flying overhead.

Hopefully, the internet will work from the hotel, if not, I'll have a few pictures ready to go.

Daylight Saving Time

My body still hasn't adjusted to the time change.  By the time I get home from work the sun is already setting.

Three days and a wake up till the San Antonio Rock and Roll Half Marathon.

Yesterday was election day.  I was not prepared, and by looking at the results this morning, it appears I was on the losing end of almost every issue. In Terrell, we only voted for amendments to the State Constitution.  In Forney, our neighboring town, they passed a resolution to allow beer and wine sale for off site consumption.

High School basketball season starts this week for the Lady Tigers and next week for the Running Tigers.  Take a minute to visit Terrell on iHigh.  All visits help the Terrell Athletic Booster Club.

Saturday night entertainment

After the run and football game Saturday we headed up to Celina for the Celina Balloon Festival.  It was windy all day and we knew before going up there, that there was a good chance they wouldn't be able to inflate any balloons.  We were right, they were not able to do anything with the balloons, but they did have live music, rides, food and a laser show.  They also brought out a half dozen or so balloon baskets and burners.

The guy in the white shirt at the bottom right is
controlling the large kite, or maybe the kite is
controlling him, hes airborne.
I remember this ride from when I was a kid. I
didn't ride it, I just watched.

It was getting late, we watched them fire the balloon burners, listened to the band, then headed back to Terrell before the laser show started.

No balloons, but that was OK.

SMU Homecoming

One of the perks for signing up for the Theta 5K was tickets to the SMU Homecoming game against Tulane.  SMU won the game 45-24 and in the process became bowl eligible.  My hope is they go to the TicketCity Bowl.

I uploaded some additional photos from SMU to the Facebook page.  I also added an album of Tiger football pictures.

Party's on the boulevard seemed to be more popular than the football game.

SMU Theta 5K

Yesterday morning started with the Theta 5K at SMU.  It was a fast race, no time for pictures during the race.  I ended up with a personal record 30:12.  Brian finished before me and also got a personal record. There were over 90 timed runners that finished.  Including some fruit that must have gone missing from the full table.

After the race I won a raffle for $25 off at McCartney's University Spirit store.  I used it to purchase a SMU fitted baseball cap. Brian won a $25 gift certificate that we used at Peggy Sues BBQ.

Complete results of the 2011 SMU Theta 5K are here.

After the race, was the SMU vs. Tulane football game.   SMU won the game and became bowl eligible.  I'll have a few more pictures from SMU on Monday.

Senior Night in Terrell

The Tigers finished up their 2011 year with a loss to Ennis on Senior night, the final score was 50-14.  Check out the Facebook page for a short clip of Matavious Morris scoring for the Tigers.

Off this morning to the Theta 5K at SMU.  This afternoon is the SMU homecoming game against Tulane.  I tried for sidelines passes but was denied due to the number of people who will be on the sidelines because of homecoming.  I'll still be in the stands, hoping to get a few good shots.  SMU has a good team this year and should go to a bowl game.

Alabama vs LSU tonight, that should be a great game.  I'm taking LSU, with LSU then cruising into the BSC title game.
