2010 Tiger Senior Night

Tonight the Tigers honored their seniors and parents prior to their final regular home game against Lancaster.

Pictured from left is Brian Blades, Barrett Calverley, Chuck Daugherty, Nathan Adam, Austin Sullivan, Lauren Dennis and Jeremy Ringo. In front is Team Mom Regina Calverley.

Terrell won the game 17-0 in a five inning game and will find out who the play in the playoffs either on Saturday or Sunday.

Bluebonnets

Bluebonnet season is coming to a close in Texas, but every year you can see families on the sides of the roads and in parks taking pictures of their kids.

Tomorrow is the Urban Dare race Brian and I are taking part in. It starts near downtown Dallas. At the same time there is scheduled to be an immigration march in downtown Dallas. They expect 200,000. It could make for a fun day.

Skywatch Friday-Perfect weather

This was last Saturday, the weather was perfect.

Other Skywatch Friday sites can be found here.

Mavericks suck, I said when they traded for Jason Kidd a few years ago I was out, I started to watch again this year thinking maybe they made the right moves to go far in the playoffs. But, as usual the fail to deliver when it counts. The team has no guts, no pride, no character, no clue no leader.......

Windy today, rain tomorrow

Its windy today and rain is scheduled for Friday and Saturday. I hope they got the forecast wrong.

The Mavericks have another big game against the Spurs tonight. Go Mavs.

A different type of race

This week seems to be dragging. This picture is from a race at Kite Fest in Rowlett. More photos from the Kite Fest can be found on my Facebook page.

After a lot of legal drama it looks like the Warrior Dash may be on for Saturday and Sunday in Forney, TX. If you are coming in for the race and have free time, make a side trip to Terrell.
Saturday is the Urban Dare race in Dallas. I am really looking forward to running that race with Brian. It's also a different kind of race, check their website for information.

Rowlett Kite Fest

Shot last Saturday at the Rowlett Exchange Club Kite Fest.

I posted last night that the The Warrior Dash is back on for this Saturday and Sunday in Forney. Looks like its not a done deal yet. Dallas County may still get involved. More information should come out today.

Mavericks took care of business in game 5 of their layoff series against the Spurs. Lets hope for a win in game 6.

Friday night is Senior Night for the Tigers baseball team. The weather forecast is predicting rain, lets hope it somehow avoids us Friday night and they can get the game in. However, rain for the Warrior Dash is a good thing.

Warrior Dash is a go

Announced on their Facebook page, the Warrior Dash in Forney, Texas is back on. They promise emails to follow later tonight or tomorrow to all registered participants.

Wills Point

This is from the car show Saturday at the Bluebird Festival in Wills Point, Texas. I added 21 photos from the Festival to the Terrell Daily Photo Facebook page.

If I hear any information about Warrior Dash Texas that is suppose to take place this weekend in Forney, I will pass it on. The Kaufman County court hearing is scheduled for this morning.

Warrior Dash Texas update

I just received this notice from Red Frog Events for immediate release.

KAUFMAN COUNTY, TX (APRIL 27)- A court hearing will be held Tuesday, April 27, regarding Kaufman County prohibiting Warrior Dash to take place on May 1 and May 2 at Cousins Paintball in Forney, Texas. The hearing is at 9 a.m. at the Kaufman County Courthouse at 100 West Mulberry St. Kaufman, Texas 75142.

A temporary restraining order has been submitted to Red Frog Events and their vendors partaking in the event this weekend.

Warrior Dash is bringing an estimated $4 million to the local community. Racers from 41 states across the country are coming in for the event.

For more information, contact Michael Cramer at (214)536-8406.

Warrior Dash is the ultimate event for thrill-seeking athletes. This national racing series is held on the most demanding and unique terrain the U.S. has to offer. Participants will take on intense obstacles and celebrate their feat with music, beer and muddy shorts. For more information about the event, go to www.warriordash.com.

Weekend Warrior Dash in trouble?

Has the Kaufman County Sheriffs Office filed an injunction to cancel the Warrior Dash this weekend in Forney? I am reading reports that the Sheriff has filed with the Kaufman County Court to halt the race, the reason is KCSO does not have the resources to cover something so huge. If this is correct, to file one week before the race is absurd. This has been scheduled for months.

Anyone with any more info?

This is my summer do, BTW.

Monday Morning Mashup

Elvis was spotted entertaining the crowd at the Bluebird Festival in Wills Point, TX on Saturday. I like the guy sitting down pointing for Elvis to sing to someone else. He put on a fun show.

Terrell Tiger alumni TE Gerald Harris signed a free agent contract with the Tennessee Titans over the weekend.

The Tigers baseball team has all but clinched a playoff spot. They have one game remaining this Friday night at home against Lancaster. Terrell won the first match up that was moved to Lancaster 26-0.

Terrell will face the District Champ from 16-4A, which will not be decided until Fridays games.

Early voting starts today, go out and vote to re-elect Hal Richards.

Photo sets added to the Terrell Daily Photo Facebook page include pictures from the Tigers games against Poteet Pirates and Forney Jackrabbits. This week look for pictures from the Bluebird Festival in Wills Point and the Kite Fest in Rowlett. Click the link to the right.

Cilla has photos of her Dalmatian puppies at Daimilus American Blog. If you are looking for a new puppy, she still has some available, check her site for more information.

Saturday, Brian and I will take part in Urban Dare in Dallas. It's like a one day Amazing Race.

Warrior Dash is Saturday and Sunday in Forney. We are going out on Sunday to take pictures only, no racing in that one.

If the Dallas Mavericks end up losing the first round NBA playoff series to the San Antonio Spurs, who will Mark Cuban blame this time? There is no Don Nelson, Avery Johnson or Josh Howard.

Playoffs!

OK, not officially in the playoffs.......yet. But one step closer to making the post season for the second year in a row after beating Forney 7-6.

Terrell scored 4 times in the bottom of the 2nd inning to take a 4-1 lead. Victor Andrade hit a 3 run double that scored Chuck Daugherty, Jeremy Ringo and Heath Hottinger who had all reached base. Andrade scored on a ground out by Nathan Adam.

Forney scored twice in the top of the 3rd to cut the score to 4-3. Jeremy Ringo prevented another run from scoring when he threw the runner out at home to end the inning.

Cody Weishaar made it 5-3 in the bottom of the 3rd with a home run that cleared the right field fence.

Forney took a 6-5 lead in the top of the 5th but again had a runner thrown out to end the inning. This time at 3rd base.

Terrell came right back in the bottom of the 5th to tie the score 6-6.

Barrett Calverley, who pitched a complete game for the Tigers, retired the Jackrabbits in the top of the 7th setting up the dramatic finish.

Weishaar led off with a walk, Daugherty sacrificed the runner to 2nd. Ringo was given an intentional walk to put runners on 1st and 2nd setting up a double play situation for Forney. A pass ball to Hottinger moved the runners to 2nd and 3rd. Hottinger was then given a free pass to 1st loading the bases for Andrade with only one out. Andrade hit the ball up the middle, Forney was able to get a force out at second, but couldn't finish the double play. Weishaar scored the winning run 7-6 Tigers.

I have more pictures, but I have to go through them all.

Time to go home yet?

Just hanging around.

Quite a few activities going on this weekend in and around Terrell.

The Tigers will host Midlothian Saturday in a non-district baseball game.

Tanger Outlet is holding a Cruzin for a Cure car show Saturday.

The Rowlett Exchange Club is hosting a kite fest in Elgin B. Robertson park in Rowlett also on Saturday.

Anything else going on in the area, put it up on the Terrell Daily Photo Facebook page.

Early voting starts Monday for Mayor of Terrell. Go vote to re-elect Hal Richards. I think he deserves another term.

Skywatch Friday-Sunrise

This was yesterday morning on the way to work. The cranes are part of the equipment being used to expand the turnpike in Garland.

The Tigers are scheduled to play Forney tonight at home. Lets hope the rain stays away and the Tigers can get a victory over the Jackrabbits.

Things that make you go vroom

Los Hermanos

Los Hermanos in Terrell recently reopened after an extensive expansion and remodeling job. We decided to have lunch their yesterday to see what it looked like inside. While it looks nice and the food was good as usual, the service was unexpectedly poor.

He can fly

All he needs is a cape.

Tigers come up short again

Terrell lost to District leader Mesquite Poteet 6-5 last night. Heath Hottinger gave Terrell a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the second after he hit a 3 run homer over the left field fence. Poteet wasted no time making up the deficit and taking the lead, scoring 4 times in the top of the next inning to lead 5-3. Terrell was never able to get the lead back.

#10 Heath Hottinger leads his teammates back to the dugout after his 3 run home run.

Rose

I think every rose bush in north Texas is in bloom. This is from Sunday and is in my front yard.

BBQ cook off

One of the highlights of the Terrell Heritage Jubilee is the BBQ cook off. I was able to walk around the judging area for the rib competition. This is serious business. Each entry has to be presented the same way and judges are instructed how to taste and vote each entry.

The Dallas Morning News recently ran the area high school spring football practice start dates and the date of the spring games. The Terrell Tigers were not included on their list.

The Terrell Tigers spring practice will begin Monday May 3rd and end with the Spring game on May 28th at 6:30PM

I would expect someone with a college education would know how to pay attention to details. Maybe that's not a requirement to get a diploma.

Fun and games

A couple of shots from the carnival.

Monday Morning Mashup

The 2010 Heritage Jubilee came to a close yesterday with chilly temperatures and a little rain. I am glad I made it out there on Saturday and got plenty of pictures. The car show is just one of the annual attractions at the Jubilee.

The Fountain 5K and walk was Saturday morning, results of the race can be found here. I didn't win, but did come in 3rd in my age group.

The city of Terrell will be having an election for Mayor on May 8th. Current Mayor Hal Richards is running for re-election. He also ran Saturday in the 5K, finishing in an impressive 32:04. He finished just ahead of Brian, who ran the race in 32:26.

The Tigers suffered a tough loss on Friday night to Red Oak, but they are still in the playoff hunt. Terrell currently has a one game lead on Mabank for the final slot. Both teams have 3 district games remaining. If the final three games play out as expected, Terrell and Mabank will finish tied. If they tie, they will play one game, winner is in.

I added to the Terrell Facebook page a photo set from the Red Oak game and a couple of pictures from the dog show and a full set from the Jubilee. You will be seeing Jubilee photos here for most of the week. Be sure to check out Texas Daily Photo on Facebook also. Make sure you become a fan of both sites.

Three runs not enough

Friday night, Terrell Tigers coach Casey Rush told his team in the top of the 3rd inning that 3 runs would not be enough to beat Red Oak. He was right, they lost in extra innings 7-4.

Terrell jumped to a 3-0 lead after 1 inning when Nathan Adam hit a full count, 2 out, 3 run double. Terrell had opportunities to score more runs in later innings, but each time Red Oak was able to pitch out of jams.

Red Oak scored single runs in the 4th, 5th and tied the score 3-3 in the 7th with another single run.

Terrell had one more chance to win the game in the bottom of the 7th but was unable to get a runner home.

Red Oak scored 4 times in the top of the 8th inning, enough to put Terrell away. The Tigers managed to score one run in the bottom of the 8th, final score 7-4.

Dogs and owners

From the Dog Show at the Terrell Heritage Jubilee. Brian also has photos from the show posted at Texas Daily Photo. The Jubilee continues today, come on out.

This one doesn't fit the title of the post, but I couldn't leave it out.

No work tonight

I tried to go through my Jubilee photos tonight, but BC has other idea.

Games

Today is the BBQ Cookoff at the Heritage Jubilee. The park was full last night with smokers going, music playing and games of horseshoe being played. I am running in the Fountain 5K this morning. After that, it should be a great day for pictures.

Terrell baseball dropped a district game to Red Oak last night in extra innings 7-4. Terrell jumped to a 3-0 lead in the first inning but couldn't put anything together after that. Red Oak chipped away at the lead, finally knotting the score at 3-3 in the top of the 7th. Red Oak went on to score 3 more runs in the top of the 8th. Terrell could only scored one run in the bottom of the 8th, making the final 7-4. I will have pictures posted of the game later this weekend. Terrell's district record is 4-5 still one game ahead of Mabank for the final playoff spot.

Runner up

This was my second choice for Skywatch Friday. Both pictures were taken with the Samsung point and shoot.

Be sure to come out to Terrell this weekend. Come out for the carnival and baseball game tonight and the Heritage Jubilee Saturday and Sunday. If you like BBQ come out Saturday and be a judge in the BBQ cook off. I will be running in the 5K then walking the grounds taking pictures, come up and say hi.

Skywatch Friday-Over Lake Lavon

This is going to be another busy weekend starting today. If you have no plans, come out to Ben Gill Park in Terrell for the Terrell Heritage Jubilee. It runs through Sunday.

Skywatch Friday is the sky over Lake Lavon. I couldn't decide between this picture and another one taken the same day. This one will be my Skywatch photo. I'll post the other photo this afternoon.

I added more photos to the Facebook page from the trip to Austin. Included are photos from UT campus, Barton Springs and Zilker Park. Click the link to the right and then become a fan.

Terrell Heritage Jubilee Carnival

The Heritage Jubilee carnival opened last night. Tonight is family night, unlimited rides for one price. Click here for the Jubilee schedule. You can still register for the Fountain 5k & walk. Start time is 9:00AM Saturday, April 17th.

Photos have been added to Facebook from the baseball game Tuesday night against Hillcrest. The Tigers host Red Oak tomorrow night.

Hillcrest High School visits Terrell

The Terrell Tigers took advantage of a break in the district schedule to play host to Hillcrest Panthers from DISD. Terrell lost the game 9-2, but since it was not a district game, it does not hurt their playoff chances. Terrell returns to district action Friday night at home against Red Oak.

This is an infielder from Hillcrest warming up before the game.

I wished this picture turned out better. I'll have more on Facebook later tonight.

Barton Springs pool in Austin

Barton Springs pool in Zilker Park is a spring fed pool that is open year round. It was a popular spot last Saturday.

Learn to throw

Saturday at UT they were having whats called Forty Acres Fest, described as a campus-wide carnival featuring unique booths & amazing entertainment by student organizations. One of the booths set up was a dunking tank. What a great picture opportunity!

OK, maybe not. I watched a half dozen people take their shot of putting this guy in the water and each one missed.

Statesman Capitol 10K wrap up

Here are the last few pictures I'll put up here from the Austin Statesman Capitol 10K. I added a set to the Facebook page.

I ran untimed because I knew I would not run the entire race and I wanted to take pictures along the way. The off and on mist kept the Nikon in the case for most of race.

This Saturday is the Fountain 5K in Terrell as part of the Terrell Heritage Jubilee. That will be with no camera. I hope to beat my time from Kaufman of 38:47.

Check out Austin, Texas Daily Photo by Linda Ball for a look a Austin every day.

After mile 1

This was down the first hill between the 1st and 2nd mile. There were over 20,000 runners and walkers, so the crowd never really thinned out. Every part of the race had a nice view, I liked this one of the football stadium. The Austin American-Statesman has full coverage of the race.

We noticed cars all over Austin with Car2go decals like the Smart Car in my picture. I had to google it when I got home. Neat concept.

Monday Morning Mashup

Yesterday was the Capitol 10K in Austin, Texas. I ran very little and walked a lot. The weather was overcast with a light mist, so taking pictures was hit and miss. I did get some shots I like that I will post over the next few days. The first picture today is the starting line. I was running untimed so I started in the back half. The feeling when starting the race was amazing. I lived in Austin in the 80s and again in the 90s and never imagined that I would be running down Congress Ave. in 2010. The second picture was after I stopped running and started taking pictures with the Nikon. Its the Texas Capitol building.

I'll be back later today with a few more shots and notes.
