Tigers vs. Panthers

Terrell hosted the Mabank Panthers in a 4A District basketball game Friday night. Mabank features Kolton Browning the Dallas area Class 4A scoring leader. The Tigers were able to overcome Kolton's game high 29 points to get out with a 68-64 victory. Kolton scored 13 of the Panthers 16 first quarter points, but the Tiger defense held him to only 16 points in the final 3 quarters including only 3 in the final quarter.

The Tigers played a complete team game even though they were playing shorthanded. Way to go Tigers.

I put a couple of clips on youtube of the game. Click on the link to the right.

Here are some shots of Kolton Browning in action, number 14 in green. He was fun to watch.

Kolton also just finished a record setting year as quarterback for the Mabank football team and was just named 3rd team All-State quarterback by the Texas Sports Writers Association. He has committed to go to the University of Louisiana-Monroe

Terrell, Texas Ice storm?

It was enough to stay home from work, but in Terrell it didn't seem to be that bad. We are being warned of freezing fog this morning and bridges that are still iced over, we will see how that ride to work goes.

You should check out the mess they had in Poplar Bluff, MO.

I got bored last night after Lost was over. I made a few changes to my site, can you tell?

Terrell's new Braum's Ice Cream and Dairy Store

What better way to spend an afternoon when the temperature is near freezing? Spend it at the new Braum's store. My favorite? Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Shake.

We had a smaller Braum's that was replaced by this larger store. It opened on Monday.

Anyone have any idea what kind of vehicle this is? Maybe an old milk truck?

Terrell Cheer and Tigerettes

A few more pictures from Tuesday nights basketball game.

The Terrell Cheerleaders are at almost every game cheering the team on.

The Tigerettes dance team performed their competition jazz routine at halftime.

And related to yesterdays mascot picture, by the end of the game it was the Terrell Tiger mascot was doing what all good mascots do, cheering up the sad little kids.

Tigers take care of the Jackrabbits

After a shaky start, the Terrell Tigers came from behind to defeat the Forney Jackrabbits 55-45. I think at one point in the second quarter Terrell trailed 20-10 and looked sloppy, not even being able to hit free throws.

Terrell came out in the third quarter and the shots finally started to fall over the taller Jackrabbits. Terrell pulled away in the fourth quarter and Forney never really got closer than 4.
Good game by the Tigers tonight.

Early in the game the Forney freshman were talking all kinds of trash. Even making the Tiger
blush. They were just playing around, everyone was laughing.

MLK Jr. Birthday Program and Contest Presentations

Last night at the Terrell Performing Arts Center, MLK Celebration of Terrell, Inc. hosted the Annual MLK, Jr. Birthday Program and Contest Presentation. The Tribune has a detailed description of the mission of the MLK Celebration of Terrell and the purpose of the evening.

The celebration sponsors four contests every year for students in third grade through sophomores in college: art, essay, poetry and oratory. To enter the contest, students are asked to illustrate or write about someone working or living in Terrell that serves as good example within the community.

Here are a few pictures of the night, sorry the quality is not that great.

This is the SWCC A Cappella Choir. I have a you tube clip of them singing at the end of the program at the bottom of this post.

These are the Dancers for Christ, from Bethlehem Baptist Church in Terrell. I also have a you tube clip of their performance, but the quality is poor.

Below are a few of the students who were recognized for their essay.

The Herman Furlough Middle School Choir also sang.

It was a great way to celebrate the legacy of Dr. King. Today will be a continuation of his dream.

SWCC A Cappella choir, if you click through the video, you should be able to watch it in high definition.

Out of town trip

We had to take a trip out of town earlier this month. Our guests made sure we had the best room in town.

Unrelated to my picture, is a story by Tricia over at the Terrell Tribune. I am sure every community has at someone going to D.C. this week for the inauguration of Barack Obama. Tricia has a wonderful story about two sisters who are making the trip. I can imagine how exciting it will be for everyone there to see it live, even from a distance. Even with the crowds, it's a trip I would make if I could.

Saturday fun on Lake Ray Hubbard

I had to drive into Dallas this morning and on my way home spotted this guy on Lake Ray Hubbard. This looks like fun, but I am sure my old body wouldn't hold up very well out there.

Skywatch Friday-Ride home from work

This is a sunset from a week or so ago before I got my eyes done. I like the picture, but I think the sunset setting overdoes it jussssssst a little. Thankfully we drive home away from the sun and not into it.

Redneck bird house

If you have a few extra minutes, hop over the the Terrell Tribune. They have a story about Terrell resident, restoration specialist, historian and I think former professor Davis Griffith-Cox. He will be featured on the PBS show Antique Roadshow later this month. Its a neat story, I am kind of a geek for things like that.

Terrell Tigers vs Red Oak Hawks basketball

Terrell played Red Oak in a district basketball game last night. Both teams played hard with Terrell coming away with the win. Next Tuesday they Play the Forney Jackrabbits at home. Hopefully, that game will have more than 100 or so fans there.

Jr. Riders

A couple of the Jr. riders heading towards the arena on Sunday.

I had the protective contacts removed yesterday and my eyes feel great. I think I am going to try to get out and get some new pics. Other than standing in the parking lot Sunday at the rodeo I haven't been doing much outside.

September 7,2008

Yesterdays Terrell Tribune. Oops. Just the date was wrong.

Update on the eyes. Very red and irritated, but I can see 20/20. I have another follow up today. I think the irritation is from not being able to wash or rub them. The drops I am using like to clump up on the eye lashes.

Rodeo at Wade Indoor Arena

Today, Wade Indoor Arena in Terrell hosted the Texas High School Rodeo Association Rodeo. I really wanted to go inside the arena, but the thought of getting dirt in my eyes kept me out. Riders practiced in a pen outside the arena. This is about as close as I wanted to get. There is another rodeo scheduled for the 25th. I may try to venture inside then.

I still have red and irritated eyes, but better than yesterday. I go back again tomorrow and get the protective contacts removed. Hopefully that will clear up the irritation.

The day after

Yesterdays Lasik went well. I am in no pain, just a little discomfort, that's why I am up and posting at 4am on a Saturday morning. I have a follow up appointment today.

Today's post is the dog I posted a few days ago that came away with a limp. This is Shawnee the next day, his limp didn't last very long.

Thanks for all of the nice comments, I will try to get around maybe tomorrow when I can see a little better. They have me putting in eye drops every 15 minutes and you cant blot. I feel like my eyes are swimming right now.

Skywatch Friday-country views

I took this picture because I liked the old barn and bare trees. I didn't notice the boat motor. Today is the day I go under the laser. Hopefully, I will see ya all tonight.

Today is Skywatch Friday. See all participating sites here.

Open wide

Yesterday, I started using eye drops in advance of getting lasik on Friday. I am 26......35......ok......44 years old and I have never used eye drops. It looks like I could use some practice.

Lasik has me scared to death. I haven't even read about what they actually do, because I don't want to know. Just do it and get it over with. I am going to be nervousing tomorrow for sure.

I am getting the procedure done by Dr. Boothe. He is suppose to be the best when it comes to Lasik and IntraLasik. I haven't heard a bad thing about him or his staff.

I have had glasses since I was in 6th grade. I wonder how long it will take for me to quit reaching for my glasses in the morning? I can go swimming and not worry about where my glasses are. I can buy a real pair of sunglasses.

I started growing a beard in November. It will be going away with the glasses.

Sometimes its good to stay out of the way

The dog had a limp the next day, not sure why.

I am going to try to stay out of the way at work today.

82 to 33, or 24 to 21

I noted the weather on Saturday was in the low 80s. It was a record high for the day. Yesterday was the opposite, we had a steady rain and the high was 37, that was a 12AM Monday Morning. Most of the day the temperature was 33 or 34. We did end up getting over and inch and a quarter of rain, so thats a good thing. The trees were icy but thankfully the ground temperature was warm enough to keep the roads from getting icy.

Do you feel sorry for me?

It will be back in the 70s by the end of the week.

How about Colt McCoy and the Texas Longhorns, 24-21 over the Ohio State Buckeyes in the Fiesta Bowl! Texas delivers another awesome bowl game.

New Years Eve

I guess I am a few days late posting pictures from New Years Eve. We went over to Shawn and Kim's house. Its gotten to be a tradition.

This is Mack, Michelle his wife couldn't be there. She had to pull a 12 hour shift on New Years Day.

Here is Margaret on guitar.

You can check out the New Years countdown on the you tube link to the right.

Looks like Kaufman County Online has made it official and is saying goodbye. Sorry to see it go, at times it was the only real news outlet for Terrell. If anyone wants to publish any announcements send over an email. I don't have the following they had, and I am not a writer, but I will be more than happy to publish upcoming events or news items.

The rest of the Survivor tryout photos

I feel much better after getting a nights rest. Yesterday didn't tire me out so much as when I was finished we went and ate at a Chinese buffet. Eating tired me out.

My first picture is Jennifer #400. She was right behind me in line. After we made our way through the line and in the door we saw that you had to get up and speak to the camera in front a room of would-be contestants. There were some that got to give their spiel in another room with just a camera person and an assistant. I was lucky enough to be able to give my speech in the smaller room. Watching others get up and speak you could see how nervous they were, I am sure I came across the same way. Jennifer, did very well, she looked comfortable. She also left me a comment on yesterdays post.

Here are the pictures leading up to getting in front of the camera.

You could see some people came prepared for the wait. They must have done this before. Can you tell the temperature got up to 82ºF today?

As we got to the front of the line, we were handed numbers.

Dallas area radio station Movin 107.5 was there giving away prizes. I correctly answered three trivia questions and won a Movin 107.5 t-shirt.

Once we made it inside we finally got to take a seat and wait our turn. Not much pressure here, right?

This guy wasn't nervous at all.

Now we wait to see if we get called back sometime in March.

I had a great time and if I don't make it this time, there is always Big Brother and Amazing Race and then the next edition of Survivor.

Thanks to CBS11TV, Movin 107.5 and Randall Noe for bringing this out to Terrell. I hope all 500 people spent a little bit of money here. :-)

BTW, my fortune cookie said "You will take a chance in the near future, and win."
