Skywatch Friday-the day after

There was a television commercial when I was a kid. It's tag line was "I can't believe I ate the whole thing". That's still the way I feel after eating so much on Thanksgiving.

How about those Longhorns.

See all the Skywatch sites here.

Stevie's BBQ on the Square, Kaufman, Texas

Saturday, Brian and I took a trip to Kaufman to take pictures of the square. Kaufman is the County seat for Kaufman County. They have a classic town square but most of the buildings are either empty or attorney offices. One new addition to the square is Stevie's BBQ on the Square. Reviews so far have been great. We are going to have to make another trip to try it ourselves.

Ben Kentons visit to Terrell

Earlier this year I exchanged emails with Ben Kenton from the United Kingdom. Mr. Kenton was planning a trip to the Dallas area and wanted to visit the burial place of his cousin Vincent Cockman while here. Airman Cockman was killed during a training mission while stationed at #1 BFTS in Terrell during WWII and is buried at Oakland Memorial Park. Unfortunately, I could not get off work when when Mr. Kenton visited, so I didn't get to meet him. He did send me pictures of his visit to Terrell. Thanks for the pictures Ben, I hope you enjoyed your short time here and make it back someday.

Weekend work

This weekend was yard work, at least for a little bit....I cheated.

Before

After - with a little help of my lawn mower. You can see the trees still are holding a lot.

Sure beats the heck out of last January's yard work.

Terrell Denny's and US Marines Toys for Tots

This is Butterfly, our usual server at the Terrell Denny's restaurant. We hit Denny's maybe 3 weekends a month. I only have a glass of water and a slice of tomato, cause I'm on a diet ;-) She is always on top of her game, but everyone who works there is nice.

This year Denny's has teamed up with the U.S. Marines Toys for Tots. You can donate $1 for a Denny's Cares $1 Holiday Tag. You can write your name on the tag and display it on the holiday tree they have in the store. The money raised will be given to the U.S. Marine Toys for Tots to purchase and distribute toys for needy and disadvantaged children in our area. For every dollar donated you get a coupon for $1 off your next Denny's visit. You can always give more than $1.

We donated $3 and will get $1 off our next 3 visits. You can donate up until December 10th. If your in the area drive over to Denny's have a Grand Slam and make a donation to Toys for Tots.

Congratulations to the Kaufman Lions. They have advanced to the third round of the football playoffs. They next take on New Boston 6:30 Friday night at Royce City.

Terrell boys basketball team wins home opener

The Terrell Tigers boys basketball team played their first home game of the season and came away with a 64-58 win over Dallas Conrad. Terrell's record is now 1-1. I added a few you tube clips of the game, click on the you tube link to the right. Hopefully as the season progresses the attendance will pick up. I think last nights game was played before faculty, parents and close friends.

First National Bank building, Terrell, Texas

This is just to the east of the American National Bank building. This is the side of the old First National Bank. Its now an attorneys office. This is a popular location in Terrell to have Senior pictures taken. If you enlarge the picture you can see a few stars in the sky.

Skywatch Friday-early morning storm brewing

We got a real nice storm earlier this week. This was the sky during a break in the rain on the way to work. It started really coming down again right after I took this photo. This was taken with my old camera.

Bass-Rutledge

I showed the north east and south east corners of Moore Ave. and Frances St. the last two days. Here is Bass-Rutledge Drug store on the south west corner of Moore Ave. and Frances St. The sign says since 1876. Since I wasn't around back then, I will take their word for it.

I would show the the north west corner but its a parking lot.

Moore Ave at night, Terrell, Texas

This is a building across the street from yesterdays picture. The building has been under renovation for some time. They recently removed the scaffolding and barriers in the front letting us get a good look at the building. The bottom floor is suppose to be a salon and loft apartments above it.

The building next to it with the Terrell Office Products sign used to be an old theatre. I would love to know what it looks like behind that white tile facade.

One year ago and today

The top photo was taken one year ago. The bottom was taken today. Looks like gas prices didn't shoot up after the election, did they Tony?

Tony, the owner of my favorite corner shop said after the elections the stations with gas under $2.00 would raise their prices. His gas at the time was $2.09, not very high but over a dime more a gallon. Looks like he was wrong, today he is at $1.99. Since he has changed over from Mobil to Texaco his gas has always been close to the cheapest in town.

We got a chill in the air this morning, but it looks like today's going to be a great day. I am going to go find something to do.

Hard Bodies?

Not sure what to make of these three. They were all out front of my gym, Hard Bodies, passing out candy. Does this mean if I continue to work out, that someday I will look like them? I think I am already well on my way.

Halloween goodies

This week I am going to post pictures of the fun on Moore Ave. on Halloween night. Each year the businesses line up along Moore Ave. to pass out candy and goodies to kids.

These two ladies are with Heart of Texas Home Healthcare Services, just north of Terrell. They were passing out bags of goodies to the kids and motorist.

Under $2

Went out for lunch yesterday and noticed the price of gas had dipped again. It's now under $2 a gallon. Who would have thought it would go down that much. We filled up at Brookshires for $1.98. We filled up just in time. As we were pulling away they said they were out of gas. The people in the picture were out of luck, at least at this station. The Valero just down the road was $1.95.

Theme day-Books

This month theme is books or bookstore. This wasn't difficult for me, it had to be Books and Crannies. Not only is it a bookstore, but they have a small theatre in the back to show old movies and plays. They have space in the front of the store for book signings, demonstrations and celebrations. My photo is from earlier this year when they hosted a herb class.

There are 178 sites participating in this months Theme Day
