Goal line formation

My view of the game, standing behind the end zone. I saw quite a few plays by West Mesquite lined up near the goal line. On this drive they settled for a field goal.

In the You Tube clip below, I was trying to get the band playing at the start of the game. Near the end, the Terrell player fumbles the ball. I was able to get the West Mesquite player picking the ball up and scoring. Only 2 minutes into the game the route was on.

OK, so Homecoming didnt turn out the way everyone wanted, the Tigers lost 50-13.

Before the start of the game everyone was ready, standing for the school song.

Thats OK, next week is another game, this time on the road to face Mabank.
Tomorrow one more of the game, then on to other things.

Sound off in the forum on the game, Homecoming or whatever else is on your mind.

Skywatch Friday-Got Teef?

You will have to enlarge the picture. I love the sign Soulmans had up. I think its a joke here, but in Southeast Missouri, they would be offended because it would describe everyone there.

Don't forget tonight is Homecoming. Events at Memorial Stadium begin at 6:30PM

Today is Skywatch Friday. Visit all skywatch sites here.

Ben Gill Park

I took a walk around Ben Gill Park yesterday afternoon. This egret didn't seem to mind me walking past.

Tomorrow night is the Homecoming game for the Terrell Tigers. Game time is 7:30. Last week I listened to parts of the away game on KPYK AM 1570. If you cant make it to tomorrow nights game, try giving it a listen on the radio and support the local advertisers.

The forum is open, someone asked for a way for people to communicate in Terrell, here it is.

Hard Bodies Gym

Hard Bodies Gym has been a fixture on Moore Ave. in Terrell for years. Brian and I both joined about 8 weeks ago and we have been going to the gym every weekday morning at 4:45am.

Don't forget to check out the new forum. Thats your area to say or ask what you want.

Crepe Myrtle

Crepe Myrtles are nice looking trees/shrubs. June 07 I took a picture of the Terrell water tank from the same angle as today but before the Crepe Myrtle started to bloom.

Today the Crepe Myrtle is in full bloom and in great color. Maybe I will take another shot from the same angle at the start of winter.

Something you want to see, leave a message in the new forum. Something you want to complain about, start a new topic in the forum.

Side rant: I have great credit, I am buying a house I can afford, I have never been late on a payment, my 401k is shrinking, the cost of eggs, bread and gas are going up, and I get to bail out Wall Street because they are not responsible for what they do. You don't want my vote, you want my money.

Yucca plants

A few of the yucca plants in Ben Gill Park.

Happy Monday, now get back to work.

I added a message board to the links on the right. If there is something you want a picture of, post it there. If you want to make a general comment go ahead. I have already posted my first question, take a look see if you can help. Its posted under the Around Town forum.

This Friday night is Homecoming for the Terrell Tigers. The Tigers will be taking on West Mesquite at 7:30 at Memorial Stadium.

Flashback to the 70s

Have you ever looked at something and then remembered things from years ago that you forgot about?

I was driving from the store this morning and noticed this stock car on a trailer. I may not be the smartest out there, but I would guess the driver for the 98 car is Chris Davis. The picture isn't that great, but as soon as I saw it I flashed back over 30 years to when I was a child.

Back in the mid 70s, when I was just barely 10 years old, stock car racing was a Friday night must. I remember my Mom taking my sister and me to the Belle Clair Speedway in Belleville, IL. every week during the season. We would get their early and walk down into the pits. I would get to meet all of the drivers and sit in the cars. They would always have at least a half dozen races and I would have favorites for every race. The only car I remember is the 6699 car. He used the loops in the 6s for the loop in the 9s, similar to the hurricane symbol. That was so long ago.

We have a dirt track called Devils Bowl Speedway in Mesquite, not far from Terrell. I am going to have to make a trip out their one of these Saturday nights.

Yes, we have no gas

Thats what I was told the other day at my favorite corner store. I think it has more to do with changing brands from Mobil to Texaco than current events.

Skywatch Friday-working early in the morning

Corner of I-2o and SH-205 in Rockwall being cleared and leveled for a new development. This is sunrise Thursday morning, workers are already hard at work.

I was corrected in the comments. This is I-30 and 205. Dumb me.

Tandy S Nicholson

This is the grave marker for Tandy S Nicholson, Company D, 23 Mississippi Infantry, Confederate States of America. It's located in Oakland Memorial Park in Terrell. The same resting place as the British Pilots who died while in training.

I found a posting from a few years ago from someone looking for an obituary for Tandy Nicholson, who was a Civil War veteran. I hope they were able to get what they were looking for.

Unflattering backside

Not everything in Terrell is nice and pretty. This is the back of one of the buildings on Moore Ave. Looks like it could use a touch up. I do have to say that as bad as it looks, it is very clean, no trash, graffiti, just old and run down.

Road Trip-Reunion tower

Yesteryday Knoxville Girl posted a picture of their Sunsphere. I thought it looks a little like the Reunion tower in Dallas. Here is a picture of Reunion tower I got last week on our road trip. Here is a link to Knoxvilles Sunsphere.

Reunion tower is 560 ft tall and has a restaurant and observation deck. I havent been up there, but its on my "to-do" list.

Ike brings a little wind and rain

The rain and wind cleared out and we didn't get it that bad. It rained almost all day, but we still got less than 2". It was windy, but a side from a few gusts it wasn't bad either.

Todays picture was taken yesterday afternoon. It is Moore Ave. heading west. This looks bad, but this is a low part of the road, if someone just thinks about rain it fills up with water.

I hope everyone has a good Sunday, and I hope that the people in southeast Texas are able to get back on their feet quickly. I can't imagine having to go through what they are going through right now.

If any of y'all use Sitemeter, my opion of the new version is it sucks, hopefully they are still working som things out.

Hurricane Ike relief

This little guy was at the Dallas World Aquarium. Not sure what kind it was, he or she was brave thats about it. It would not move off of the rail.

I want to draw attention to the story posted on the Kaufman Herald. The American Red Cross has a shelter set up in Kaufman to house evacuees from Ike. They have an immediate need for supplies.

If you are local please try to help out.

It looks like the Terrell Tigers held on to defeat Seagoville 31-28.

For local Ike coverage, CBS 11 is my choice.

Here is a look at the last 3 days as observed at the Terrell airport

9:30am update, the wind is off and on, nothing strong. Just sprinkles so far no real rain.

2:30pm update, the wind is gusting up to 40mph and we have steady rain. Went out for lunch and everyone seems to be going about their business, no big deal. If it stays like this it wont be that bad.

Skywatch Friday-Downtown Dallas

This is looking south past the Dallas World Aquarium. If you look closely you can see the moon right under the small cloud, you may have to enlarge the picture. Also, unlike my post on Tuesday, there is a butterfly in this photo.....honest, look at the colors on its wings and its so large.

The Terrell Tigers face the Seagoville Dragons at Memorial Stadium tonight at 7:30. Come out and support your team.

Road Trip-Dallas World Aquarium

I took a road trip with Brian and his sister Tricia to the Dallas World Aquarium. It was a lot more than what I expected. Pictured is a walkway underneath one of the large tanks. Brian in on the left sitting down in the blue shirt and Tricia is standing next to him facing the tank. If you are going to be traveling to Dallas or are looking for a place to take the kids, this is a must see.

Sweet

Found a sweet spot in Dallas this week. I wish I had time to stop and look around.

Chocolate Secrets....wine, chocolate, bliss.

On the left side of the door way it says, a boutique dedicated to artisan chocolate, fine wine & rare finds.

On the right it says, the food and nectar of the gods and pampered mortals.

Sounds like my place! I should probably bring my credit card.

Lets get fired up

The Terrell Tiger mascot and cheerleaders get the home crowd fired up before Friday nights game. Terrell next plays Seagoville Friday night at Memorial Stadium in Terrell. I will not be able to attend that game, so this is my last football related pic for a while.

Skywatch Friday-Jackie's Southern Fried Catfish

Big puffy clouds behind Jackie's Southern Fried Catfish in Bells, Texas. From what I read Jackie's is suppose to have the best catfish in Texas. Since I hate catfish I will probably never find out.

Speaking of fish.....can anyone tell me what is a 'Texas fish picker' and should I be insulted?

Update: Someone at work just corrected me. I guess I need to find out what is a fish picker from Texas?

Today is Skywatch Friday. To join or see other sites taking part go to Skywatch Friday.

If you are coming down from Paris, Texas for tonight's Paris North Lamar vs. Terrell football game bring lots of spending money and have lots of fun. It should be a good game.

Carnegie Library, Terrell, Texas

This photo been at the top of my page since the day I started my website in June 2007. I finally made the plunge and changed it. While I am not 100% satisfied with the new header, I like the change.

Its been a while since the building was used as a library, today its home to the Terrell Heritage Museum. I would love to one day be able to take a laptop and scanner in there and scan all of the photos they have. I bet they have photos in there that people haven't seen in years.

The fringe of Gustav

I wanted to take one more post to thank Ron and Gayle Harris for showing community spirit and restoring the sign for the old Iris Theatre. The Terrell Tribune also has a story online about Monday nights events.

Gayle Harris in the green dress and owner of Book and Crannies made sure everyone had cake before we went outside for the relighting.

Don Harris made time to try to speak to everyone, answering as many questions as he could about the old theatre and sign. Above Don is speaking to Michelle who owns Opera House Gifts and Decor.

It looks like we are right on the fringe of whats left of Gustav. The sunset last night was magnificent. It was a bit windy and you could watch the clouds moving quickly from north to south, but we really didnt get much rain. To the west it was clear and you could watch the sun set. Unfortunately I didn't have my camera with me when I was out. Here is a snapshot from my way home from work. We are getting a little bit of rain this morning.

I changed my banner photo. Not sure I will keep that one, but the other one had been up since June 2007 when I started this site.

Be sure to check to link to the right for the Royal Air Force in Texas Fly-in website. Sounds like a great weekend is planned. Make sure you are there.

WOW

The Iris Theatre neon sign was turned back on last night. The theatre closed a few years ago but the sign survived. On the 83rd anniversary of the theatres opening Ron and Gayle Harris owners of Books & Crannies, which now occupies the building, had the sign refurbished and rewired. Ron and Gayle have a small theatre in the back of the bookstore. Last night they had a screening of the first movie ever shown at the theatre, it was The Lady starring Norma Talmadge. At the upper left of the page is a search blog box. Type in Iris to see all of my photos of the building and Books & Crannies.

Back on, with the original colors.

Punch and cake was served inside the bookstore prior to the lighting. It was neat to meet people that have seen my site.
Before the sign was turned back on, Ron Harris spoke to the crowd outside the building.

The guests posed for a group picture. Ron is in the tux, Gayle is in the beautiful green dress

She sure looks pretty.

I have a couple of more pictures that I will post in a day or so.

Carrollton RL Turner band

No monthly theme post for today. It should be back October 1st.

For Gustav updates from New Orleans, I recommend this site, Gustav Bloggers. I remember following Katrina from their updates in 2005.

It looks like our area could get the bad weather from Gustav later this week.

Pictured above are the Carrollton RL Turner Lionettes and band. They made the trip out to Terrell for the football game Friday night. They performed at half time for the crowd.

RL Turner band members waiting for halftime to start.

Terrell plays North Lamar, Paris, Texas this Friday. It will be my chance to get photos of the Terrell band.
